Josh Barrett on loan from Reading (27 Viewers)

And if he fits the bill and is any good or not. One thing though, if our academy is a hot bed of talent like everyone keeps banging on about-why are we going to get a player from Readings to put in the team?

What on earth are you taking about again? We have a small squad. We are a League 2 club. Our two most creative players are crocked for the whole season. Reading have a lot more players than we do and Robins clearly thinks he can add something we don’t have at the club at the moment.

How can’t you understand this and how have you made a loan signing about the academy?

Reading must think he is pretty good as well as they have given him a new contract until 2021.

Yes mate, Reading have a good youth system, they operate a Category 1 Academy and have put a lot of money into it.

Type of club we need to be working with. Championship and especially Premier League clubs have a lot of players they want playing league football so let’s hope we can get a few good ones in to go with what we’ve already got

He is from the Reading academy yes? So that's my point. Why do we not trust or deem good enough "one of our own" to do a job ahead of him?

Because he's an Under-21 international, that plays in a position of need for us, and has been scoring/assisting goals for fun in the U23's against better opposition than ours play against. If we had someone like that, you can bet they'd be in the first team.

bet Ponti is chuffed with this

If he is good enough he will still come through, despite the current rawness. Still needs time in my book.

Hasn’t Robins trusted Jordan Shipley to step up in the last few months?...

I’m not still not what the point is...if there is one of course in your random rants. You say academy players are the reason we won’t ever progress then get angry when we bring a loan player in instead of playing an academy player?

I don't quite get it either. Getting first team appearances and bred through our academy, this season we have had Burge, Haynes, Willis, DKE X2, Shipley, Stevenson, Maycock, Bayliss, Ponticelli.

Don't how many more we could possibly expect.

Great that we've been able to get a player in very early to start training with the team, clearly he has shown ability and let's hope he can replicate that in senior football now.

I'd like one or two names that has experience too to arrive this January if the pot allows and right type becomes available.

Remember when we got the experience of Hunt, Ramage and Henderson in?

That's to the extreme of experience I'm referring too.

Players who've played a few seasons or 100+ games and importantly tasted L2 before is what I mean to be precise to balance out the fresh faced youth we have in and around the 1st team currently

What you mean is, experienced, but not too experienced. ;)

Not ranting or getting angry-just expressing an opinion.

And 5 of them were the mainstay of our team last year that were a disgrace and went down without a whimper.

Maybe we should just wait and see what position / role he’s given.
If we all did that, there'd be very little traffic in this forum.
Speculation is fun!

Perhaps he is a better player and more advanced than our own?

So our own isn't getting the required standard neede and we have to look elsewhere?

Again, hasn’t Jordan Shipley been part of the first team for months now? So you make little argument whatsoever. I am sure Robins would also love to have Maddison or George Thomas in the midfield but unfortunately due to our situation and current club status these players will move on.

If you also had any idea about youth football you’d know Reading operate a Category 1 academy and have invested a lot into their system over the last 10 years so *should* be producing a better quality of player.

I and many others still don’t understand your point, it just seems like more pointless rambling

Surely you can say the same for any club that has to buy players in the Premier League?

Why are Man Utd buying our youth players, why are they buying each others players? Are their kids not good enough?

Jordan Shipley is currently doing a job at this level. Can't see him going much higher really but I'll guess we will wait and see. Hope he is another Madders and goes far but all to often it turns out to be another Conor Thomas.

We did and we sold them to Bournemouth and Norwich

Were they all signed in the one window as well? If so, that has to register as surely the sh!ttest 3 players ever to be signed by any club in any transfer window.

On paper these we're good types to bring in as we were a very young side starting to falter and lacked leadership.

Unfortunately the due diligence wasn't quite done properly as these players weren't up to the required standard anymore at the tail end of there careers.

We are trusting our own young players; Bayliss, Maycock, Shipley, DeKE and Ponticelli have all made their 1st team debuts and the latter 3 I mentioned have all had a run in the starting lineup. Then there’s Willis and Haynes starting week in, week out for us.

This Barrett lad is A) something different to what we have in our academy and B) performing very well at higher level of U23 football than our youngsters. If he’s even close to breaking their 1st team, he should be a good signing for us.

Jesus Man City 20yrs Ponticelli Coventry 19years. Despite Ponticelli's potential he won't be playng like Jesus in 12 months time first team appearances or not.

However believe he can develop into a good player, the fans just need to lay off the expectation.
