My guess is that Robins has looked in to this sort of thing and come to the conclusion that anyone affordable is no improvement or that any improvement is unaffordable.

His answer was a youngster from Reading which seems to be the best we can afford. Really think Biamou can come good if he just finds the net once. Get him scoring open goals on the training ground for a start.

Sisu don't come into this conversation to me...

I'm not disputing the previous failed tried and tested route however my point is who you breaking the bank for on a short term deal?

It's all very boom or bust theory from you in a notoriously difficult window.

Your train of thought led me to think of SISU.

Difference in salary as discussed for 12 weeks = circa £48,000. Hardly breaking the bank based on compensation fee off Man Utd and the FA cup revenue. If it went well and we got right in promotion mix we would need 4 games with an extra 500 on the gate to cover the outlay.

Or shall we carry on acting like the non league outfit we will become?

My train of thought is of a individual who'd not accept 12 weeks work (short term deal), I'd be seeking a 18 month deal if I was as good as what the side thought I'd be.

The type of contract your offering is for a man returning from injury with his fitness to prove.

Or of that more suited to a man not interested in the long term of our club just a fast pay day.

That's my point... what area of the market your trying to find a player given the deal your offering.

Nothing to do with the owners or running of the club.

35 now though, not sure if hes been injured this year.

This suggests Alex Revell is staying and he'd be the ideal man to get instead of Revell

Think he's played a lot of games, was Northamptons captain too prior to jimmy arrival.

A fantastic scoring rate at this level over a long career, yes he's 35 but well worth a 18 month deal.

Because he's 35 that will put many off as we're scared by Darius Henderson, but he's still playing regularly.

Has to be top of our target list!

Tom Popes contract runs until May 2019, Who is going to leave their contract 18 months early to sign a short 3 month contract with us?

I think if 35 year-old Richards were to sign for us, surely it'd make sense to sign him on a contract until the end of the season with a 1 year extension clause in our favour rather than committing to a whole 18 months? We don't have the capital to be making such a hasty risk.

Well naturally I'm sure the club would try a 6 month deal but promotion if far from guaranteed so we could well be going again in L2.

He knows where the goal is and is a bully up top. He's never been blessed with pace so none to lose.

He's played a minimum of 30 league games alone in recent seasons so injuries are no issue.

A tweak in style of play and him and McNulty will thrive together with Richards scoring too.

6 month deal so he is sitting around all summer drawing a salary?

Brilliant.

Lol your the one who suggested that paying Tom Pope 4/5k a week was no issue given the compensation money from Man Utd for the young lad who's just gone to old Trafford.

I'll leave it there. We're on different wave lengths completely.

He has found the net once but that didn't kick start him either

why would someone choose windon over us right now?

gotta be money, i wonde rhow bad our budget is compared to rivals.

or maybe MR wasnt preperared to pay more than hes worth either
Or like Steve says, at 35, if you're offered a 'til the end of the season deal with the option of another 12 months by agreement' or a straight up 18 month deal at Swindon, then you're going to take the latter if the salary is comparable. If Swindon go up, they could be stuck with a 36 year old in L1 who Northampton didn't want for a L1 relegation battle, with a 12 month contract to see out.
