If not , why not .

All every supporter wants , whatever division you find yourself in , is success on any level and a team that can compete.
Over the last 17 seasons since we were relegated from the premier league we have finished 15th or lower 12 times , it’s very hard to maintain support or keep together a strong core fanbase when you have a club doing so badly so consistently .
Add fan apathy towards the owners you have a perfect mixture to keep supporters away .

However , if a promotion should happen then why would people want to continue to stay away ? Why wouldn’t you want to watch your football club that is doing what we all want it to do ... compete .

Now you cannot tell me 36000 people are happy to watch them get promoted but 14000 plus don’t want to continue with the club on its journey in the division above, it makes zero sense .
Is it still purely the ownership keeping fans away or is it that most fans grew up watching us play united and arsenal and Tuesday night games against tranmere or morecambe just don’t wet their appetite .

I for one hope a few thousand more come back next season whatever division we find ourselves in.

In the space of 14 months this club could find itself with a promotion and a checkatrade cup win , it’s surely a platform to build on both on and off the pitch

as a rule anything that gets the blood pumping increases your support- Graham Hover once said that we suffered from staying up for 34 years as people got complacent, we never saw any promotions struggles or any season long pushes to achieve something, we just had the final few games scenario to stay up and even the cup win was a few games worth of excitement starting in March really- and he was right.

The culture of the club must change from "we already know that will gravitate towards the bottom of whatever league we're in", to "we don't know where we'll be but it's gonna near the top and it will be exciting", this is the start

Probably sell a few more season tickets but will that be to new supporters or ex ST holders who now pay on the day. We have lost supporters by the bucket load, relegations, poor teams, a seemingly unstoppable downward spiral not to mention the Northampton debacle with little hope of things improving. Difficult to get supporters back on a regular basis once the habit is broken.
Don’t think fans will flood back on the strength of a play-off win either. Our regular attendance seemed to be between 7and8k. last season If we can average over 10k we’d be doing well. Should get higher away followings here thoigh which will help

Momentum helps but I think it would add about another thou only to the average attendance which will be disappointing. The usual lines of ‘not watching that shit league’ followed by ‘not paying £x for league one football, look at Bradford’.

If we got promoted and club set about marketing it on the back of the feeling of goodwill towards the club we could add a fair few. If fans could see some real investment in trying to create a side capable of doing well in League 1 then that would also help. If we do go up and then scratch around for cast offs and has beens to just survive in League 1 it won't get anyone excited or come running back. Fans want the possibility of success and a club that shows it wants success as much as the fans do.

I believe our illustrious owners will not invest one single bean more than they have to to keep club alive whilst they pursue their legal actions but if I was in Mr Boddys shoes I would be trying to build on the goodwill a promotion (which obvioualy hasnt happened and might not) and foster a siege type mentality ie lets do this together, to hell with SISU, the Council, Wasps etc - this is our battle - the club and the supporters and only we can dig ourselves out of the shit. Guarantee that every penny spent on season tickets etc will be invested in the club on the playing staff etc. There will inevitably be the usual NOPM mob but they are a very small (if annoyingly vocal) minority but all fans want is success and by creating a united us against the world mentality could go a long way to generating the funds Robins would need to build a competitive side.

McNulty will naturally attract teams in higher positions as he has proved he's a goal scorer and Lg 2 fan's player of year.
Bayliss was attracting scouts/teams in January supposedly too.
It's not just "SISU love a sale" is it, players have ambition, agents want the best deal for themselves and player. Perhaps if we do go up there might be a chance we keep them but I'm not holding my breath.

Things seem to have improved behind the scenes a bit anyway., The cup run helped not sure if the NOPM exists anymore Nick, whatever Trust open meeting I’ve attended, not a member, there ain’t many there. As you said things have improved all be it slowly I would say since xmas.
and our performance last Friday got the lapsed fans talking at work, that’s a start.

You never really see too much of SISU now- which is the best PR exercise they've ever done.

I still get nightmares at that Dulieu guy standing in the dugout and mad Canadians trying to get us to text with ideas on who should be playing.

I said it years ago, people focused so much on being angry and the politics that they actually forgot what they were angry about.

It has always been easy to just say that yes SISU are pricks, yes CCC, Wasps, acl, PWKH etc are pricks but at 3 on a Saturday it's all about CCFC. Why should any of those get in the way of supporting the club? Why let them get in the way of moments like beating Stoke in the cup, MK dons, Notts County in the playoffs and hopefully a win at Wembley?

I can understand when politics is done to death people get tired of it, it's still easy enough to just file that in the "politics" drawer and then rock up at a match and it be something completely different.

The major difference is that so much of the propaganda stuff has gone, the nonsense made up to somehow put people off going. It's all pretty quiet now on that front so people have just concentrated on the football. We have had more threads about Biamou than we have SISU / Council which is a sign.

I used to have people who are "ccfc fans" and go up randomly every now and then talking to me about the politics (repeating nonsense half the time) but even this season it's mostly been about football. (even when times havent been so good).

I don't know if it's a mixture of Boddy coming in and Fisher slowly vanishing, changes in local media, Robins and the players he has brought in and winning that has done that.
