Cov is a strange place, became a boom town in the 60,s with the car factories paying big bucks. But people moved here from all over the country, and their families had their allegiance elsewhere and still do.

I agree.

I used to work for British Coalnin the 70's and there were so many from Newcastle and Sunderland and Wales and hardly anyone from Coventry working there.

Think there was 503 employees and I think about 5 Coventry City supporters.

People came from all over the country to work in the mines and car factories and they already supported other teams, so no doubt, when they had kids down here they would encourage their kids to support the teams they supported.

As I keep saying, it is going to take time. We get another promotion and we will gain new fans.

I also wonder, the fans who used to go up the Ricoh and then stopped going, do you think they all encouraged their kids to be City fans, or just left them to make their own minds up?

That is so true. Sad really. The Godiva is brilliant.
I have to say though, that Highfield Rd. and its 'one bus into town and walk to the match' accessibility has been lost.

However it does show that attendances do go in cycles.
Although I have been disappointed at the rate people are returning continued success will inevitably increase our gates.
If anyone can suggest any other reasons why we are obviously a bigger club than Blues these will be gratefully accepted.
I have texted the Sky average league position table which has us,I think, 22nd and them a few places lower.
I will cite our Johnson’s paint, and Checkatrade record attendances along with us having the record for the largest away following ever in this country (55k in the Charity Sheild). He disputes this saying that they took 58k in one of their Leyland Daf finals. Does anyone have written proof that the CS is indeed the highest away following, possibly a world record?)
I will mention our badge being voted the 11th best in the world (theirs was no where)’ our stadium is bigger than theirs and the fact we have our own song, not a second rate music hall tune pinched and amended.
I will obviously also counter by saying our city of culture status trumps their Commenwealth Games and by asking where Birmingham was when Cofa was planting his tree or even when our City was being mentioned in the Doomsday Book.
You can see being semi-retired can leave you with time on your hands!

Coventry had a shopping precinct before Birmingham, the first all pedestrian shopping centre in the country I believe.

And if you want a Cathedral we've got one to spare.

I do remember quite a few people complaining of this in the not too distant past. Just another example of the major destruction in trust that has gone on over recent years. Everybody's delighted about how this season worked out, but still very wary of any pranks that SISU might pull - too wary to splash out on a season ticket. I agree a club our size should be selling more, but karma comes back to bite the owners on the arse once more.

It's a bit of a myth really. Population in 1961 was just under 300K. It increased to 335K in1971before falling away again. That increase is less than what we have seen in past 10 years. Besides, it is generations ago. We were averaging 34K 50 years ago. What we have seen in the last couple of seasons is the result of recent club history, our two lowest season averages since the war. It's nothing to do with demographics really.

First bit is true, thanks. They come out on top in the Cathedral stakes as they have two working models as opposed to our old and new version.

Last season was the first without a season ticket for me and family, apart from Sixfields season (spit) for about 30 years. However, as I live 30 odd miles away mid week games are difficult and last season there were loads of those.
We just need to accept that with the season starting in the middle of the main summer holiday period lots of people are like me and always miss the first 2 games. If you add those 2 games plus a few midweeks in the depths of winter I am paying more for a season ticket than for match packages. Last season I attended 14 games on match package in premium zone, which equalled £280. I also paid £5 for Accrington special offer. Therefore for 15 home games I paid a total of £285 in premium zone. Not really tempted to pay the early bird price of £368, as I could do another 4 games taking me up to 18 (ignoring the Accrington special offer) at those rates and still be ahead.
A second issue for me is I would have a season ticket on my own as the others I went with are now casuals for various reasons. So, if they decide to go we can get tickets together, which is tricky if you have a season ticket in a popular place.
I will wait for the match packages.
I will qualify for over 60s in 2 years so may get one then.

No but I do know a Hazel that lives on a main road not too far from a Crossroads junction that would be about 8 mins walk to the Cres. We went to the same school although not in the same year and later worked for the same company.
