Excellent! Hope they get to the final now, just because it's nice to see different teams do well.

Will be a nice neutrals game to watch, hopefully!

I don't think Belgium were great, however I feel Japan made em look shite, they were that good!
I honestly thought Belgium were dreadful and though Japan played well, Belgium made them look brilliant.

I tipped France to win it at the start so will stick with them, but they will have to be good to beat Belgium on that first half

Belgium looked very tired towards the end, but on the plus side at least that puts and end to the antics of Neymar.

Brazil would be a better team if their 'best' player played as part of the team.

It reminds me of being on FIFA when you have to score with a certain player to achieve a task. You usually end up losing because you try too much with that player.

One things for sure, this World Cup is wide open now.
I believe win tomorrow against a tricky Sweden (who we have struggled against in the past) and it could be ours

11 behind the ball and score from a free kick or penalties? Why not if you win the world cup

I see Rio Ferdinand and Alex Scott met Putin today, giving him more credence. All over the Russian news.

There were also other players there (no idea why England had two) such as Matthias, Schmiechel and others.

Thoughts?

Can't agree I'm afraid, think you're not giving Japan enough credit for the way they tore Belgium a new one.
Tactically out thought, out fought, skillful, comfortable on the ball, just a joy to watch.
Belgium got a lucky looping headed goal, changed tactics and won the game, Martinez deserves credit for that turn around toby fayre.

Agreed. Fellaini (don't like him) is allowing front 3 to run havoc. Await a huge dramatic tearfest from Neymar at final whistle(plus a few dives along the way). Only Marcelo has created imo.
yep. ugly but effective.
also full credit to Martinez for his changes (team sheet & tactical).
Still think their defence is there for the taking with pace and better finishing. Brazil did have enough chances to win it.

We will have to agree to disagree then, because I saw a Belgium side whose passing was very poor and they were disjointed. Japan played very well, but when Belgium had the ball their distribution was all over the place and that was when they weren't being pressed by the opposition.

Just grabbed the first report I could.

"Having rested most of their best players for the 1-0 win over England in their final group game on Thursday, Belgium's first-choice team -- including Vincent Kompany back from injury in the centre of defence -- sent too many passes astray in the opening 45 minutes."

And then the Beeb, "Belgium's Premier League stars - their golden generation - had put in a disappointing performance in the first 45 minutes."

:)

I honestly thought Brasil would give Belgium a spanking. Even when 2-0 down I had not given up hope. They had the chances to do it, but who would think Brasil could be accused of terrible finishing?
The funny thing is yesterday evening I was watching Youtube videos of the great Brasilian strikers Ronaldo and Romario. Brasil just don't have players of that calibre any more. Neymar isn't even in the same class as those two. Romario was a genius. Only Marcelo in the current Brasil team reminds me of the Brasilian greats.

That's not to take anything away from Japan of course, who played very well, but Belgium were well off form. Look at the difference with tonight. On Tuesday so many passes were going astray and tonight everything seemed to just click for them.

I felt Japan's pressing and tackling caused the Belgians panic passing to go astray!
Anyhow, I thought we have agreed to disagree! ;)

Still going on about Japan and Belgium? Japan are out so I won't mention them.
The minor nations always seem to have a few good shock results but the cream usually rises to the top.
Belgium have rode their luck and are very beatable in my opinion.

Hazard was nearly unplayable and De Breuyne is class. Lukaku is better/stronger than I realised. Courtouis top drawer, as is Kompany. The rest are average (although Feillani helps the quality players play). They are very dangerous on the break. Winners for me on tonight's showing (as Brazil are a tough nut to crack) See what I did there?!
