I thought we played well in the second half and showed we have got a threat going forward. We still need someone to replace McNulty however. Nit picking maybe but I thought all three defenders, McDonald, Hyam and OBrien should have done better with their third goal.

Is that Martin Cranie by Doyle?

Was surprised to hear Crainies name being read out on the tannoy when the line-ups were being announced...didn't know they'd signed him
For what it's worth,2nd half was so much better than the 1st (Allasani seemed to gain confidence after his goal plus Bennett looked so much better than Brown too...going forward at least)
i really don't care about the result to be honest, although it's obvious from seeing them today that we do need a striker in but I'm nowhere near worried
Yours sincerely,
Mark Robins

Robins could do with spending more time trying to sign some players that aren't full backs or central midfielders to be honest.

Our strike force and goalkeeper situation are far from ideal. Making a scapegoat of the kids is hardly fair.

He obviously feels some aren't putting in the effort and are coasting. Age has nothing to do with it. If you are in the first team set up then there has to be certain standards. He is right to define where the bar is.

And 're time signing players you dont have a clue how much effort is being put in? Just because a target hasn't been signed doesn't mean effort isn't being made. Beavon's loan might be a key piece of budget juggling?

It's irrelevant how much effort he is putting in now, because it is getting to the point that it is too late. Anyone we do sign will not now be starting next week, which means we are about to start our first game of the league with Biamou up front. Amazingly, some fans still think we can get promotion with this being the case. The reality is that this is disastrous planning and mental to think this would be the case at the end of last season.

All that is going to happen is that the fans are going to start getting on the back of players pretty quickly. Also, if we do also sign players like Chaplin in the dying days, many fans will be expecting him to be instantly as good as McNulty. The latter was sold a month ago leaving plenty of time to get strikers in and get us ready, this has not been used and has not happened.

Robins has been immense for us since he has been here but it is ok to criticise him here because he has fucked it up as it stands.

Agree we need another striker. But judging Max with DKE, Vincenti and Shipley in behind is a bit unfair, judge him with Andreu Allassani and Bayliss providing him.

Lack of effort by anyone is important especially in pre season. The right time to address it is pre season which he has done.
Who is expecting promotion?
Yes a lot of our fans are unrealistic and expect too much to soon. Some are unrealistic about how easy it is to just go out and sign a target.

yeah cause buying a new striker really stops our defenders being shite against a team with a number of internatiionals

Disastrous planning??? Mcnulty forced through a move after we had made loads of signings for new season. Early signings. That's good planning

Now we have one area to address and Chaplin team are hard to deal with. However this happens. Not all transfers are smooth. As long as we have a striker in and a striker that robin's actually wants I should add we will be fine. Even if it's last minute if deadline day it would represent a great summer transfer window

I never said it wasn't important. What I'm saying is that the manager will be having a lot more of these 'effort conversations' if we don't get some adequate strikers in.

Lack of effort tends to happen for two reasons. The first is that they simply cannot be bothered, be it due to the manager (Thorn etc) or due to it being a friendly that doesn't matter (surely with one week to go they should be fighting for a start in the team). The other is when you play as part of a team where you don't believe you can win. Players then give up and their heads drop.

A lot of our fans are expecting big things this season, and our squad in most areas is good enough to match that. The whole ignorance about not replacing McNulty and getting on the case of anyone who raises this as an issue is pretty stupid to be honest though. It is a massive weakness. The season starts in six days, McNulty was sold a month ago. Just because Robins has been amazing up until now doesn't mean we cannot rightly speak out when we are in the position that we are in. There is no excuse for it.

We won’t know how great it is until we see the new signings. Vincenti was considered a great signing last season.

Weren’t people saying same about McNulty before he started scoring ?
Pontecelli needs playing in his most effective position before we can judge him
It dosnt matter where you play him, if you aren’t prepared to do the basics, like run around a bit, and put the odd tackle in, then you havnt earnt the right to get the shirt!
You can’t question his talent in front of goal, but it’s a team game, and 100% effort is expected, wherever you play.

You're telling me it is not disastrous planning? We have signed some really good players, but it is obvious he predicted Bayliss would be sold, not McNulty. We have far too many central midfielders and almost no adequate strikers.

This still happened a month ago, to still be in this position now is a joke no matter how much we might love Robins. We will be starting next week with Biamou up front, which could only be forgiven if McNulty had been sold with a couple of days to go.

It might anger you, but the reality is that Robins did a Mowbray and put all his eggs in one basket with Chaplin. It might come off still, which is good, but it doesn't leave us prepared to start the season, and it also puts a lot of pressure on the young lads shoulders.

I agree. Robins has definitely slipped up here. He's relying on variables which is a dangerous game to play in the unpredictable sub-universe that is football. Dare I say it but IMO I'd go as far to say he's been incredibly naive in the Chaplin scenario. Regardless of what or what not has been said in the press by who, both parties have handled the situation horribly.

What should MR have done James? Go on, I'll let you be manager and you can tell me what you'd have done.. ...

Sounds to me he is improving in every area of the squad and looks like that too. The one area where we are weaker is upfront cause of losing McNulty but we have still added

Allassani
Jch
Andreu returning
Jones returning

And mr will add

Chaplin and a n other

I prefer my manager to identify a target and get him rather than bounce from one choice to another

Disastrous my arse / no excuse my arse

For starters I've never said I'm a manager. Secondly I don't understand why you're getting so defensive. And thirdly, just because I'm not currently employed by a football club does not automatically make my opinion void. But for the sake of answering your question, I would've probably targeted a player that wasn't being held prisoner by their own club.

But surely he needs a plan b what if Chaplin got injured pre season?

People should just be a bit more honest. What this thread is really boiling down to is those who dislike Biamou being in a panic and those that do being a bit more relaxed about the situation.

Agree but in terms of planning we .ca t call it disastrous. Scouting could end up being but time wise we have got business done.

Also last season we got promoted so if we have 1 did this year but do same I would call it another success
