Can we please ban the next person who does a John Harriot tweet link.

They should, but as part of their punishment they should be forced to spend a full day on the Brexit thread before having their account annulled.

If Chaplin really wanted to come here, he'd force the hand of Pompey. I'm not convinced he really wanted to move to be honest.

Oh well, trust in MR to get someone else in.

Been mentioned already here. The lad is Portsmouth through and through and has been there since the age of six I think someone said.

You're not going to force a move and piss off your fan base. Fair enough if it was someone like McNulty, he is Scottish and had no previous connection to this city.

I hope we sign Chaplin, if we don’t, do you see us spending any money (not including nominal fees etc) on any alternative players?
What is the obsession with transfer fees?

I'd prefer another mcnulty than someone who costs £1m and is shite.

Or spend the money on wages for a good player out of contract than an average player we have to pay to get out of contract.

Think people need to stop wishing this was a game of football manager/FIFA

Well that's not good enough. We shouldn't have sold the man responsible for 40% of our goals last season if we didn't have a sure thing on to replace him.

Grow up

Looks like Robins has done his best Mowbray impression here.

Let's hope he has some other irons in the fire and can redeem it all.

From what MR said the other day he identified his targets but it’s up to the recruitment team to sort out.

Freddy Eastwood: the best striker we’ve had in the last 12 years.

Wait, that’s not how transfer fees work...

So you think it’s good business to be entering the season with Jonson Clarke-Harris and Maxine Biamou as our only senior strikers? Didn’t you spend the whole of last season crying every time Biamou was on the pitch?

That obviously wasn’t the plan. Portsmouth haven’t been able to get their men either, hence the delay in this transfer.

The way people are presenting this scenario, you’d think transfers are easy to get done, they’re not.

For one game, it’s not the end of the world going in to the new without a new striker.

It's not going to be that way come the end of the transfer window next week though is it?

We (Coleman?)also tried to "try before you buy" loan him, but Wolves said Nah, you can't and then just fuckin bought him!
If we were unsure, we shoulda walked away.
Wasn't Kenny Jackett thier manager then also?

He said in his last interview that he had a plan B that could be completed very quickly should he not be able to land his preferred target. I wouldn't be surprised if that means another loan from Chelsea

I wouldn't mind that as long as we put the money aside to sign someone in January or next summer. As long as it's the right loan signing, of course.

No, we signed Eastwood in 2008.

Did Robins or the club ever say we were after Chaplin as our main target? I can just see it now, we were trying to sign someone else and Chaplin turns out to be our 'plan B' and signs tomorrow. Jackett and Portsmouth have missed out on their targets waiting for us.

There's not been any concrete evidence that we have any money available to spend in the first place. Nothing official has ever been said about our supposed interest in Chaplin

Robins has always been quick to deny rumours that aren't accurate, you can usually take his lack of denial as confirmation when a rumour gets to this stage. Grasping at straws a bit all this "did we even want him?" Stuff.

I'd be happy with a loan until Jan TBH, just need someone in who can do a job. Must be loads of kids in Prem 2 who would jump at a chance of first team football. What's the England U19 CF like?

Equally, it's very unusual for a Robins signing to be rumoured much before it actually happens. All of our other signings pretty much came out of the blue (Morgan Williams aside but that seemed to be a hitch with the paperwork). It's just not in Robins MO to do it this way. I don't doubt we have had some contact over Chaplin, but I'm not convinced he has been our only target all this time either.

Geez, Charlie, you do realise the season hasn't started yet don't you?
We go past the transfer window and have no replacement, then that is the time to moan, not now.

Why do you think we are going into the season with just JCH and Biamou?
