Well at least I recognised the con well in advance. Maybe living in a country that actually did put itself first at all costs, persecuted a religious minority that it they blamed for the decline of the country, and literally did away with lefties, foreigners and gays, did help me see through the rhetoric of leading leave bullshitters. At the end of the day it lay in ruins was invaded by foreigners and lost a large chunk of it‘s territory. Started off as make Germany great again... sovereign state ( walk out of League of Nations ), take control of borders ( march into the Rheinland), currency strong again ( until they had to raid the Austrian gold from the central bank at the Anschluss )... all been done before. I personally can’t stand people spouting out slogans about sovereignty, laws, currency etc, reminds me of modern history.

I wish people had spent as much time in Northern Ireland as I did as a kid during the troubles and then been lucky enough to see the peace process and GFA come to be. Even as a kid I could see that the hatred was breeding more hatred, it became self perpetuating and was spiralling out of control. People in the rest of the U.K. would watch it on TV and think they understood what was happening and they really didn’t. Otherwise decent people did a lot of things or turned a blind eye to things that they simply wouldn’t have done in a different environment or atmosphere. Sure there was some pure evil bastards, usually commanding not committing but there was a brain washed generation willing to latch onto these false hopes because of the environment that they were born into. Sadly I see a lot of parallels with the environment in the U.K. at the moment. The us or them environment is toxic.

There has more often than not been an overwhelming majority of people in favour of brimging back the death penalty in surveys. MP'S have had a vote on it & chucked it out.
Lies, lies & statistics...& then there is doing the right thing by the standards we choose to function at. So no on two counts...it is NOT clear that a majority is in favour of a second vote (the numbers change with every story probably) - so denying the people (? SOME) a second vote is not undemocratic. Otherwise we would be in the pollbooths 8hrs 3 days a week probably.

that's a valid opinion. But it is equally absurd to say we can leave the customs union and maintain a 'soft' border. Under the framework of the GFA we can't.
