Someone is going to get toppled here surely. I can't see how they can all survive and people obviously are not going to be paying monthly subscriptions to several different players each month.

Netflix
Amazon Prime
Facebook
Apple
Disney
+Others to come too and then you also have the likes of BFI, MGM, Curzon, Universal Studios etc.

This obviously all on top of the main players for your staple stuff, Sky, Virgin and BT.

Nice to have some competition in some ways, but it is undoubtedly going to be incredibly frustrating when it comes to having programmes you are dying to watch spread across numerous platforms.

For me it would be a nightmare to have something like Westworld on Facebook and then Handmaid's Tale on Apple, Sneaky Pete on Amazon and Better Call Saul on Netflix.

Seems like we might have a lot more great TV, but some of it we may well are miss out on.

Surely some will fall by the wayside along the way and others will merge.

Have Prime but never really watch it.

Netflix has become pretty poor recently, a couple of good series but only so many shit american stand up comedians or "world's toughest" type documentaries there can be.

How do people get much time to watch these things anyway?

I have sky but probably watch a tiny fraction of the things I pay for.

They are forced to fill up their platforms aren't they, to make their catalogue look all the bigger.

On Amazon though, I watch Sneaky Pete, have just watched Homecoming (which I thought was brilliant), Bosch, Jack Ryan, plus films.

On Netflix, The Good Place, Better Call Saul, Black Mirror, Stranger Things (daughter watches), Riverdale (daughter watches), Santa Clarita Diet, Making a Murderer, the Haunting of Hill House, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Ozark.

All streaming services lose money (billions in the case of Netflix) and are either cross-subsidised or financed by issuing junk bonds. When the bond market crashes many of these companies will simply disappear.

Just need to add, obviously they are not all on at the same time, which makes a massive difference. ;)

All of the Amazon series I watch are finished for now.

On Netflix, out of those, only the Good Place and Riverdale have new epsiodes at the moment.

I love Westworld and Handmaid's Tale, but they are both in-between seasons too.

It's all doable, because like I say, they're not all on at the same time.

Yeah, think you are right. All these new players see an opportunity and huge market, but they simply cannot all survive.

Never understand it either, by the time I get home, have some food, go to the gym, shower, I end up with about half hour to an hour to myself, where I would rather read then watch TV.

But then so many people watch the soaps, X Factor, Strictly, I'm a. Celebrity etc.

I don't watch much terrestrial TV at all.

TV....The biggest pain in my life.

We have 5 in our house. All linked to Sky, Netflix or both. But all the family want to sit in my room with me and then decide what I watch. And moan if I watch what I want to.

My only peace is having a long soak in the bath. I have both linked to my phone. Then they ask me why I spend so much time in there.

I'm lucky, my daughter watches what I watch (if appropriate).

She pretty much likes what I like too so we watch the Apprentice together, the Good Place together, Homecoming together.

Here and my wife?

Stupid housewives from wherever, Jeremy Kyle, reality programs with stars I have never heard of, Big Bother, in fact anything mind numbing. I prefer something funny or something I can learn from. Or even both like with QI.

But in the week the opportunity to view is only 2-3 hours. I record series on sky plus and never watch them,

At some point, everything is going to be streamed. Football highlights now, I only bother watching them on Sky Sports or the CCFC site.

I'd probably struggle if somebody sent me a DVD, might just be the PS4 that can play them.

Yeah, but that's you and not everyone is you. ;)

If something is said to be brilliant I try my utmost to watch it.

And besides, if you only have 2-3 hours a week to watch stuff, why are you wasting time watching programmes you say are rubbish?

I mean every day in the week. The maximum time anyone has is limited. I get home from work around 7

Yeah, but not everyone works as hard and as dilligently as you.

You have to remember that some people are retired and some only work part-time. In fact I bet the figures on the number of part-time workers in this country is huge.

How sad that millions of people are spending so much time sitting in front of a box.

Why have Sky, when it is so expensive? See it as a rip off myself, if you watch as little as you say, surely one of these would be better suited to you?

Out of the big ones on there it will be Apple to go for me or Facebook. From my experience, Facebook is a dying platform, people have it but don't use it? At least in my generation, and doubt people will use it for videos/movies. Apple overprice everything, and people are starting to get wise to this.

I think depending on what contracts Disney wins, and what they produce, could become the biggest. Don't see Netflix going under simply due to their huge customer base.

Prime- a lot of people i know get Prime for the one day delivery rather than the Prime Video, and it is just an extra bonus.

Agree with all of that.

I don't know why people fall for the Apple bull. Like you say, everything is so vastly overpriced.

I have awful insomnia so end up watching stuff on them overnight to send me off. Generally the same documentary series over and over again though. I have to say the Netflix originals have been poor for a while (I like love, the good place is a CBS or NBC show) and the only decent thing out of amazon is preacher.

Apple products may be expensive but some of their services are incredibly good value. Apple music ends up costing me £3 a month and it has a million more songs than spotify.

Yep agree, I admit to being one the people who always brought Apple, only phones mind you, but am just waiting for contract to finish before I buy my first non iphone, going for a Oneplus which looks 100x better than the iphone for half the price.

Personally don't see point in streaming music, can just as easily download any songs you want for about 10p (on android). The problem with apple is they make it all closed source, so you can only use apple designed products with them, and so that's how they can charge extortionate prices. Also little things such as with he new iPhone you don't get the earphones with it now, unless you pay an extra £15 on top of a £1200 phone...
