Juke - not going down too well.... (7 Viewers)

Of course it does to some people. Some have even implied Westwood was over-rated. What irks me is when players give their all for the team leave without uttering a bad word against the club they are then subjected to bilge and ridicule. It's beyond pethetic. Turner is probably a useless lump and gunnarson a cocky, lazy sod. I give up.

If I remember rightly Juke came out with nothing but positives about the club after he left and laid any criticism right at SISU's door. Not quite the same as Dublin refusing to play until he could sign for Villa, or Bellamy spouting venom at the club when he left. It's got a fair bit in common with break-ups; you either slag off your ex because they're your ex, or you leave it be because they've nowt to do with you anymore. The latter is what CCFC fans should be thinking-Juke left in January; he has moved on and so has the club.

I think he is coming under the same critisism he came under when we signed him.

We signed a young prospect from Everton for a reported £1m (I know that wasn't the real figure, but at the time, that's what we all thought) and we'd seen him score that wonder goal in the SPL 6-6 draw. So we all expected a prolific goal scorer... naturally. The toruble is, that's not his game. As most of us now know. Some City fans just could not see the work he was putting in, despite him getting on the score sheet in that first season.

So Boro sign Coventry's top goal scorer... they don't know that he was practically our only goal scorer but they expect the same as we were when we signed him. Now some of their fans cannot see the work he puts in, how he brings others into play, works harder than most others on the pitch.

He was a great player for us. Always gave 100% despite head turning rumours and still speaks highly of us. I've not a bad word to say about him.

You say penalties like it's a dirty word. As it they're not "real" goals. Wasn't JUke the penalty taker while he was here?

Don't forget Sheff got one in the Cup too.

He has 7 league goals and 2 are penalties.

Would sheffers have scored more if we had played him as a striker though? You need to do a like for like for a proper comparison.

I think the bottom line is - our team under AT was built around Juke and his strengths and that got the best out of him and got him scoring at a ratio of 1 in 3.

He's gone to boro who play differently and their system isn't built around him anymore, a bit like Carroll at Liverpool.

Disagree stupot it does appear they have built it around him. Even putting Emness on the bench.

A lot of people on here are taking the moral high ground over Juke. For me I'm being critical of him as a footballer for us not on any personal level. he was indeed gracious and a fine young man who played his heart out for us.
I'm merely looking at the facts and figures of it all and how his presence either helped or did little for us when making my comments.

Kduffy. It's useful to compare their stats this season. Juke played 26 games scoring nine times, one is a penalty. McSheff has played 32 games, scored eight times with two penalties.

I don't say them as a dirty word I say they are penalties. Alex Stepney took penalties but you would not advocate him as a centre forward.
They don't mean anything in terms of goal ratio as a centre forward.
Anyway I have nothing against McSheffery he is fine but I fail to see what the comparison to Juke is with him anyway. The real comparison I suppose is Platt and there is no real comparison is there?

We really have no argument. Different players and could easily play in the same team. Platt would as just said be the replaced player.

Not to argue the finer point of that but Juke was played as the main striker...the only striker when he was here responsible for most of the goal scoring required unlike Sheff who is played in the midfield or wide hardly ever as a striker.
Apples for apples please...

Very unlikely. If he is a striker why have no manager considered him good enough for that role. What that says is Thorn, Adams, Black, McCallister, Bruce, Grayson don't know what they are doing. He clearly is not a striker or would at his age and experience made the position his own.

I mentioned McSheff as you did earlier. And of course penalties mean something in terms of goal ratio! If they didn't then they wouldn't be counted. How silly. With the amount of penalties that are missed then really scoring one is not as easy as it would seem. A goal is a goal.

They don't mean anything in terms of goal ratio as a centre forward.

So then he's a midfielder with a very good scoring record? 101 goals in 302 appearances.

He's a wide left player in a 4 4 2 formation. That's where he has played 85% of his games and that is where the majority of his goals gave come from (as well as penalties).

Still don't see the argument I think he's doing well.

Emnes has only been on the bench 3 times out the the 13 games Juke has been at Middlesborough - he's scored 4 in that period.

There is a difference between trying to fit them all in a system and actually building a system around a player. I compared it with Carroll as although he has started 28 games for Liverpool, the system is built around him like it was at Newcastle.

Juke 9 goals in 25 starts for us this season - 0.36 goals per game (1 in 3)
Platt 3 in 19 starts - 0.16 goals per game (1 in 6)
Nimley 1 in 13 starts - 0.08 goals per game (1 in 13)
Cody 2 in 10 starts - 0.2 goals per game (1 in 5)

He hasn't suddenly turned in to a crap player overnight.

He has, he doesn't play here anymore.

Nest seasons instalment - Norwood was just a mediocre midfielder never good enough to wear Sky Blue and Nimemly couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo.

Said it when he went and have not been proved wrong providing we got a decent price for him was excellent business decision. Our results have significantly improved and Middlesboro's have gone down the pan since the transfer not all a co-incidence surely.

Don't get me wrong Juke gave his all just think he is a limited player and if quotes on transfer price are ball park figure think it was a good decision.

Not expecting anything from Hull away so would be delighted with getting anything, we may just get a point given our current momentum.

Given that we now have McDonald, Platt and O'Donovan on our full time payrol as fowards this looks rather silly don't you think?

No doubt about it though, Platt has been fantastic since juke has left.
If he could bag a few more, he would be a better player!

As he is 34 I would suggest bagging a few more now is unlikely.

Not really silly we are a selling club unfortunately always have been to survive - the three players you have listed on our books would not fetch a million like Juke has which is a good price and good business which has been proven by the stick he is getting from Boro fans at present and the downturn in Boro's form with him in their side.

Hibs are funding most of o'Donovans wages now & Platt and Mcdonald are on nowhere near the wages that Juke is on maybe there combined wages did not equal his considering he came from a premiership side in Everton?

Given our finances think it was an excellent piece of business, would loved to have kept Juke if we were solvent but his head was turned and we could not afford to keep him truth be told and get in two premiership loanees.

No doubting they are all decent players, players we have missed greatly. Gunnar and turner have been getting rave reviews and played in a cup final. Juke isn't getting rave reviews, isn't scoring goals and Westwood is third choice at Sunderland. That's not sour grapes it's just facts.

My issue with Juke was goals/chances ratio. Don't know the stats but he would fluff 3 good chances a game before he'd score. Platt is guilty of it now - but he's being played as an assist maker to reduce the impact this has - Juke was our main/only goal threat. With him gone we've changed to a style that suits our squad so, whilst I like Juke, I think his departure helped us in more ways than just getting the 2 loanees in.

Agree totally. We've picked up nearly as many points in a much shorter period since juke left than when he was here, and are playing more of an expansive team game. I don't understand all the juke arse licking when it's obvious we are a better all round team without him and he's done nothing for Middlesboro.

I liked Juke, didn't want him to go, but he did. Also, since he's gone our form has improved greatly, so maybe he didn't suit our style of play anyway. Who cares? He's at another club and we're on a good run.

All the best

juke got us the few points we had before the tun of the year, how can you forget that?

he is more of a target man yet because we lost king we relied on him to be a 20 goal striker, how is that his fault?

he got 9 goals in 1 half of the season,so on course for 18 all season, but with nimely he would be fantastic

dont blame juke for having to spearhead a cack team, same thing would happen if platt/nimely were upfront on their own.

I agree, but there are too many "ifs" in there for my liking. He's gone, we seem to be doing better without him, let's all move on.

Good luck to him.
