I dont think we were any better than pompey overall but we looked more likely to score - had more belief on the day. The best thing about Pompey on the day was the noise their supporters made throughout.

Wouldnt expect any credit from Appleton - just had his face slapped by a team he doesnt rate, which i find very satisfying. We deserved and got the win - thats all I need to know :D

What's the general feeling on here regarding the recent signings P*mpey have made given they have a transfer embargo over them and were able to name a full 16 man squad just prior to the signings (this is above the minimum of 14 which triggers the clause allowing signings and not to mention them farming their youth out but bringing in players from Prem sides)?

I was on the understanding that the FL had rules in place to stop teams gaining an unfair advantage ....... kind of ironic really.

Also 1st April 2012 is the date of their first scheduled payment on their CVA. There are rumblings that their former administrator, AA, put a clause in it that says to the effect that the scheduled payments are only guide and that the CVA only has to be repaid in full on the final day (don't know if this is the legal position). Should they fail to meet a CVA payment I'd like to think that the FL would consider further points deductions as this is in effect the same result as exiting administration without a CVA.

Saints fans have the long running thread on our forum but we are always interest in what other fans of the team potentially seriously affected by the actions of P*mpey actually think of the goings on.

We have been writing to the FL for clarification on some of these points (not that it does any good) to express our concern that the integrity that they speak of is seriously undermined.

I think the entirety of this thread tells you all you need to know for our fans' opinions on the matter. It's not just the footballing inequalities, it's the fact that over 30 regular folk at the club have been made redundant because of the likes of Ben Haim not even being open to taking pay cuts of the like those at Rangers have made. Despite this, Appleton's complaints just seem to get louder by the day, displaying gross ignorance at the fact his club is extremely fortunate to still be in existence, let alone being allowed flexibility by the FL and PL to receive extra cash early and sign players.
If we get relegated along with Pompey, I could accept that. If Pompey stayed up at our expense courtesy of all the gross financial cheating and rule bending they have done over the past 2-3 years, whilst we have lost a lot of players to meet financial obligations, it would be a bitter pill to take. Pompey's fans too seem oblivious to the fact that 30+ of their own are now unemployed, probably with little or no redundancy pay, as a direct consequence of the club's recklessness. Not to include schools owed tens of thousands of pounds each, amongst other local businesses/institutions being shafted by the club. Disgrace.

I think it's disgusting. If Portsmouth manage to stay up this year then was there any point whatsoever in the 10-point deduction? They were not going to get promoted or make the play-offs so there's effectively no punishment there. Where's the incentive for them to play by the rules next time?

Apparently former Pompey Chief Executive Peter Storrie would relish a return to the club, god help them if he does! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17545079

I would suggest that they call Health & Safety in as soon as possible because there is obviously something in the water or air that sends management at the Pompey delusional . Feel sorry for the Pompey fans

Don't feel sorry for them, they're just as delusional as the management. Most of them think the club has done nothing wrong.

That is tue.

Many of them seem to fail to acknowlege that they are at fault and also feel any punishment is harsh.

only feel sorry for them in respect of the shysters that have run the club way beyond its means. Fans generally blindly trust those in charge to do the right thing by the club. Fans pay their money and very few understand the finances or the implications of poor financial control, so to a degree the average fan wont undertand and will defend the club they support. I can understand that and they get some sympathy.

BUT if they cant now see and admit that what has been done is wrong then sympathy goes right out the window. Like I said obviously something disturbing in the water or in the air at Pompey.

"Michael Appleton is hopeful Chris Maguire will remain to serve as Pompey’s Great Escape catalyst.

The on-loan Derby forward has played a key role in the Blues’ climb off the foot of the Championship table.
His arrival into Appleton’s starting line-up has coincided with seven points from the past four games as Pompey fight to remain in the division.
Maguire was once again impressive in Tuesday night’s outstanding 2-0 triumph over Hull, scoring the opener.
In accordance with his initial 28-day emergency loan from Pride Park, the Scot has another week remaining on the south coast.
However, once that expires, Appleton is keen for his loan to be extended to the season’s end.
That will be down to the Rams, though, and then for the Football League to ratify."

If the FL do ratify it, I'll be writing to them to ask how they justified it to be an 'emergency' considering Pompey have Kitson and Kanu available (just 'unfit' according to Appleton)...

Pompey's Great Escape catalyst is the set of spineless people in suits at the Football League-will they remain spineless if Pompey ask for an extension? You bet.

anyone else get the feeling that if they go down by 1 point, the Football league will let them play one of next seasons games this season to see if that helps them out

So, Pompey currently £58m in debt, £20m more than when they went into admin in Oct 2010 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17679909. I cannot possibly see how they are going to start next season.

Not sure if this was discussed previously, but those with anger management issues should probably steer clear -

'HMRC are currently waiting for the High Court verdict on the Football Creditor’s Rule after opening a case against the Football League last November. A decision is expected over the next few weeks.'

Any legal eagles reading may know differently, but I'm not sure how the FL can win that one. Next season could start with a fair few on -10pts...

Am I being cynical here or am I right in thinking all this has been caused by the fat cat multi-millionaire owners who sell up when the shit hits the fan, SKY TV, and the stupidly high obscene wages that some players are on? I cringe when I hear what a player is earning these days - even in the lower leagues. It's no wonder clubs fold!

Said it before on here , when i first started going up hr it cost me 25 pence which i could easily afford from my pocket money from my dad. No child now has £20 pocket money, add on a program and say a mcdonalds and its too much money. Thats one of the reasons our stadium is half full ...or even less !

don't think it's been mentioned on here but emergency loans are only for 28 days and that period is up for at least one of their loan players but guess what? The FL has decided not to enforce the rule and let them stay till the end of the season.

it doesn't sound like the administrator has had much interest from potential buyers. A fan buyout is currently looking like the prefered option but they are expecting the council / sport england (lottery funded) to stump up most of the money. Surely if this happened, esp with lottery money, there will be a lot of clubs asking questions.

"Portsmouth administrator Trevor Birch has said that no offers have been made to buy the club, and that liquidation is still a possibility. "

From the Beeb yesterday.

Don't want to see any club go bust, but at the same time it is their own fault.

there's a meeting shortly to do with obtaining a new CVA. not sure on the mechanics of how you can make a CVA agreement when there's no owner to foot the bill.

Couple of queries tho, it seems noone has yet had a payment from the last CVA which i think was 6p in the £. Do they still get that or will they only get a % of that based on a new CVA? Can see a few companies objecting if they are being expected to write off even more, surely it gets to the point where they're not really getting anything back and would be better pushing Pompey to liquidation to see if they can get more back that way.

I think everyone in the know believe HMRC will win, especially when what follows has happened in the past:

Extracts from:
Rule could 'destroy' Portsmouth

HMRC document reveals level of unpaid tax

Darlington FC were required to pay just £3.64 in unpaid tax, despite owing more than £400,000, following their second spell in administration in 2009.
The tax authorities' document reveals how Darlington were required to pay just £3.64 of unpaid tax in 2009, as part of an administrator's deal that saw unsecured creditors offered 0.0009% of money owed.
In 2007, the HMRC document states that Leeds were required to pay 2% of £7.7m in unpaid tax that equates to around £154,000.
HMRC claim they are owed at least nearly £40m in unpaid tax, between 2000 and 2010, after 53 cases of clubs in England entering administration.

Full story at http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11674/7648507/Rule-could-destroy-Portsmouth

Why should the likes of Man U receive all of their transfer fees, Over priced players get their FULL wages and the tax payer gets just £3.64 now meaning cuts in services or higher taxes to cover the loses.

However their will possibly be a loop hole Portsmouth will find not to comply, such as they are already in admin so the rules will apply after the judgement.

Depends on the team? How many overpaid players are at teams like Darlington?

You're right to say that no one has yet received a penny from the original CVA.
According to a previous quote from Birch, creditors would get say 20% of 20% eg, 4p from their original £1 debt...

given that they haven't recieved anything from the first time round you can imagine a few of them, particularly any that don't have any allegance to the club, saying no to another CVA and chancing what they would get back from liquidation.
