Feelings Towards Ricoh Arena Now (5 Viewers)

It is the home of Coventry City, we need to get out of this mess hopefully imo with different owners from there buying into the Ricoh should be a goal, we will never own it 100% again but can’t see why we couldn’t obtain a decent stake in it.

It diminishes the whole match day experience though which I then associate with the ground. At HR it was possible to have a good day out even if we lost, now the result is pretty much the be all and end all.
Now I appreciate that HR was very convenient for me so they may add to my dislike of it but even people I've spoken to who live more local to it don't seem to get on with the place.

If you like the place then great, but I don't think the majority have a connection with it.
But what you want is more pubs close by noy specific changes to the stadium is all i am saying

Have no issue with u saying matchday experience is not as good for you. But the actual grounf is not souless

but I do find it soulless.
You don't, you're totally entitled to that view.
As for the pub thing, mid week games at either HR or the Ricoh are a different experience to Saturday games. Often involve a mad rush to finish work, get home, get ready and straight to the game so all the other stuff isn't part of the mid week game routine. Used to love going to HR under the floodlights, find mid week games at the Ricoh a chore.

Ok thats fine. Unlike nick u have not resorted to baseless lies u now regret.

However i would say all this talk about locstion and proximitt. HR was 5 mins down a444 in car. Not rly a big difference to timing and rush?

How am i obsessed with it? Go on prove it

Interested to see your reply
Maybe you prefer how it looks on internet streams ;)

There's some weird affinity some seem to have with it

As for if we were premier League, Chelsea played there and it was a sellout but it wasn't anywhere near some of the smaller games in terms of atmosphere.

Oh so now its changed to some and not you. Easier just to admit u were wrong nick

Ok so now we hsve established i am not obsessed with ricoh and that once again covcity4life proven right we can move on

Yes ifollow games like i would at HR but i also go like yday game. It can get loud but it cannot be overlooked we have never been a good at the Ricoh. Always in financial issues always in lower leagues. For big cup games and derbys its been rocking st times and shows you what it would be like if we made prem. Also another fsctor is we nearly always send big crowds home with a loss and terrible performsnce so not mich to sing aboit

If we ever make prem ppl will see this

But as i am open to rugby town ground not sure how anyone could get obsessed with ricoh from that

Exactly, but that's my point, mid week games are often just about the game and probably a bigger indicator of how a person feels about the ground with all the other stuff taken away.

I remember the buzz I used to get walking up Raglan street, the glow of the floodlights illuminating the Hillfields sky, the gradual increase in the noise the nearer you got to the ground, the odour of ale and smoke in the 70s and 80s, loved it!

As I say, it's about opinion, your view is as valid as mine but we just have opposite opinions about the place.

no it's not. Especially if you'd been going to HR since the 70s.
You may not feel it's soulless but plenty do and I'm one of them.
It's not just the ground, I used to meet up with lads I know from all over Cov in the pubs before and after games at HR. Now I stay in local before the game, maybe have a pint in or around the Ricoh and nearly always return straight back to Earlsdon afterwards so the match day experience has lost that dimension for me.
Of course it would be better if we were in the top flight but personally I don't think it will ever feel like home to me and I don't think I'll ever warm to the place.
HR was soulless was 95% of the time anyway.

So quiet and everyone always used to moan about the very poor atmosphere.

Of course now we only choose to remember the good times looking back.

soul isn't just about atmosphere, there was so much more to HR, yes there's a certain amount of looking back with rose tinted spectacles that is without doubt but if it was possible I'd have us back at HR in a heart beat.

Ale smoke and piss the smell from the toilets seemed to travel for miles and has been burnt it my nostrils for life I fear.

The Ricoh is a decent enough ground, would be nice to be within walking distance of the city centre but you can't have everything. However it is really ageing badly and the fact structural engineers had to be called in for what was supposed to be routine maintenance would worry me if we owned it.

Most of the problems with the Ricoh are down to either it being half empty every week or being a badly managed facility. The complete disorganisation every week, chaos at the F&B stands (if they're even open), ever changing rules applied by the stewards etc. All things that could be sorted out with better management but we've lurched from CCC / Higgs ownership, who couldn't be bothered and just relied on CCFC to cover the cost of the loan repayments, and Wasps who seem to go out of the way to make the match day experience for our fans as bad as possible.

I loved Highfield Road and wish we had never moved. All of the heartache of the last 10-12 years would never have happened. However, I don’t think the Ricoh has ever had a chance to thrive as a football stadium because things have been so bad since we moved there. A winning Championship team with a sniff of promotion and I think that the stadium would have a great atmosphere. I hate the fact that we have no fans behind the goals. I have always felt that it would have been better to close off the upper parts of the stadium so that as people enter the bowl they could only walk down to their seats. This would at least mean that one end could be opened. As it would cost the club more money it won’t happen.

Surely there's enough land available on the other side of the railway for a smaller stadium, say 15,000 capacity ?. We could go there until it's time to swap stadium, as will inevitably be the case !

Not entirly opposite. Walking up through the streets and seeing entrwnce come into view was dwfintley more romantic thsn what we have now

Miss HR with all my heart though. Grew up in the best seats in the ground, front row of west stand right behind the goal!

Nothing wrong with the stadium itself. It’s all the politics and bullshit that’s surrounded it since the day the idea was conceived by Richardson is the problem.

At least it had some character and would certainly be better for us now.

The Ricoh is poorly constructed, is decaying alarmingly and badly located for traffic access. Aesthetically it’s not a pretty sight at all.

The location is the worst aspect and lack of reasonable parking. It can’t create any atmosphere unless it’s 90% full.

The semi final against Wycombe was electric and only one stand was open.

I did too, but it's fair to say a big game against Liverpool rather wetted the appetite than a dour midweek affair against Rochdale, Bury, Accrington, Yeovil etc etc Most of those legends there yesterday are legends because of what they achieved against the best teams in the land.

Lol - I guess you never went to many games at highfield road did you

I think we’ve already established that I have. Doesn’t fit your argument so keep pretending that you know better if you like. It only proves you wrong twice.

Had many a good night and day atmosphere at HR, also had some shit ones. In fact the worst atmosphere I’ve ever experienced watching Cov was an end of season game against Wimbledon at HR. We were safe, they needed a draw and the gate in the build up was so low the club did a buy a ticket and get a free shirt promotion in an effort to boost sales.

How does it prove I’m wrong when most on here agree with me?
