Because once he wins the election by a mile and teams with the brexit party, he can have a majority and go for what he wants
Any comments on what the Despatches investigation uncovered last night with regards to how American pharmaceutical companies are lining the NHS up for a raise in the cost of purchasing drugs post Brexit that on this single issue alone dwarfs the amount that we send to the EU?

Come on, Dom, are you trying to tell me that if the Tories were in opposition and they thought that they would lose any general election, that they would push for an election?

It's not about being chicken, it's about trying to give yourselves the best opportunity to win.

I don't think Labour ever will win under Corbyn, but that's besides the point.

To think Corbyn is the one who doesn’t want an election is to completely misunderstand the Corbynite mindset.

They think they’ll win. They don’t believe the polls. They think Corbyn is a master campaigner and will gain 10-20 pts during a GE campaign.

The 140 MPs who have told Corbyn they won’t vote for an election are the same ones who thought they’d get decimated in 2017. The anti-Corbynites. They don’t want to go into an election with him as leader and fear losing their seats because they think they’ll get smashed.

But of course people who think that only party leaders exist and we have some kind of dictatorial regime because they don’t understand the nuance if party politics can’t grasp this.

Just “Old man bad”

Fair points.

It.is very much becoming about individuals isn't it, rather than policies of the party.

Brexit has broken down a lot of party loyalty, Corbyn didn’t exactly have much to begin with.

Johnson obviously lost his 20 odd MPs straight away, and I don’t read as much of the Tory press to know the ins and outs but I believe there’s a similar argument in the Tories with some wanting an election after Brexit and others wanting one now. But Tories in general are more loyal and Johnson has already jettisoned the worst rebels.

Edit: sorry realised you meant among the voters it’s more personality. It certainly is. I think this started with Thatcher, and was continued by Blair. It suits the media but ignores how the U.K. political system works. Suits those who want to easily smear an opponent though and suits shitty MPs who get back in on their leaders ticket.

Curious: where do you get your info from?

Do you read the Labour press?
I don't read party political bullshit from any party. They will only tell you what they want you to hear.

He won't come out straight with saying Labour will lose with him in charge. But you are the only one who seems to even think he has a chance. Even the millenniums don't rate him that highly

It has been for ages.

Brexit is the biggest thing in the UK for a lot of years. Each party other than Labour has a leader that has left the voters without any doubt what they want to happen. The Lib Dems beat Corbyn to the remain vote while he was busy dithering about.

Would you vote for anyone pushing to leave?

Of course not. So you are the same as the vast majority.

It has just been announced that there will be a general election before Christmas.

But Labour frontbencher silent on which date Labour wants

When asked whether it should be on 9 or 12 December - or another date - Burgon simply says: "We just want a general election - we want them out before Christmas."

This sums Labour up, still can't answer when they want the election for

Yep and the Tories have complete unity amongst their ranks don't they.

Fact is, if the Tories didn't have all the differing factions and voted along party lines we would be out of Europe by now.

Not really as since 2017 they have not had a majority

*facepalm*

That’s not what the Labour press are. I’m talking about things like LabourList and New Statesman that have reporters close to the party and report on internal politics.

Edit: also LOL at someone both claiming they don’t listed to party political bullshit, but parroting the CCHQ “Corbyn is chicken” line.

Made another thread for the General Election.

Think we should keep the General Election and Europe separate.

Surely they would have got it through wouldn't they, all the Tories plus some opposition dissenters.

I doubt it and very few parties would have unity so they’d always be a small number of people against certain policies or abstain

Are you saying not a biased view?

Why when it is all about Brexit?

It won’t be - once campaigning starts lots of other issues will be discussed and scrutinised

But it will still all be about Brexit.

Will leavers vote for a remain party? Will remainers vote for a leave party?

It won’t be. The lines on Brexit are pretty much set

A lot of the campaigning will be on other issues - especially the opposition
