FORMER CITY PLAYER AND MANAGER SACKED BY CARLISLE

Former Coventry City defender and manager Steven Pressley has been sacked by Carlisle United.

The Cumbrians have not progressed under the Scot and Carlisle's board have taken the following action, according to a statement:

"The board of Carlisle United Football Club have decided to make a change and Steven Pressley will leave the club with immediate effect.

Chairman Andrew Jenkins said: “Steven has given his all and has worked tirelessly since the day he joined us.

“We understand the challenges and have supported him throughout, but we haven’t seen the evidence of progress we expected or needed to see.

“This is not something we can allow to continue, so sadly it is time to change, move on and look forward.

“I want to say a personal thank you to Steven, he has been a pleasure to work with and this has not been an easy decision for us to make.

“He leaves with our very best wishes.”

The existing coaching staff will take charge of football matters in the short-term."

Remember the football until Mowbray took over before he kept us up. Jesus, Mowbray spent 90 mins on his feet telling the players what to do constantly shaking his head at the players he has inherited.
Yes let’s hear the guff about Northampton but he did have a few decent players at his disposal.

He inherited a forward line that was the envy of the league.

remember Jordan Clarke at centre half then as a forward! Guys an utter disaster in football.

Like I’ve said elsewhere he’s a good developer of players but doesn’t seem to be able to manage the senior pros too well.

His outburst after the Worcester game was bizarre, think he thought he was Alex Ferguson for 5 minutes. There was no coming back after hanging your senior players out to dry like that

I may be wrong but I was told three of the experienced players pinned presley to a wall afterwards for his treatment towards burge and the younger players. I do stand corrected.

Never heard anything about that. I think something happened with Reda Johnson though and he was one of the most popular players in the changing room?

Remember the note book he used and the twat stood by him and when they came back for another team made it clear when they scored they both turned around to the directors box giving it the big one.
Pair of c@nts.

Mowbray:
W 26
D 24
L 26

34.2%

Pressley:
W 32
D 30
L 38

32%

When you consider Pressley had a year and a bit at Sixfields to deal with with the smallest attendances in the division and two points deductions it could be argued Pressley did a better job than Mowbray

The circumstances when we were playing at Sixfields are the hardest any manager has ever faced at this club I would suggest. The job Pressley did in that period should never be forgotten. I think there were 8 senior players on the books who'd played more than 1 game for us at the start of that season. As for the treatment of Burge after the Worcester game... His petulance created the worst result in the clubs history. Reda's attitude clearly stunk and he rated himself massively. The two of them had a lot to answer for after that result.

Will always be remembered for his rant after the Worcester game:

Wowzers...forgot about that.

Technically, everything hes saying is what you'd want to hear from a manager in that situation.

Obviously though they way he manages such situations leaves a lot to be desired from a man management point of view.

We did lose to a non - league team that were many leagues below us and was probably in the top three most embarrassing results in our clubs history

He gave it loads about players being banished and then carried on playing them.

Yeah that was interesting...it was as if he hadn't thought it through. He was asked the question, wasn't he...something along the lines of 'so those players won't play then' and he said that his hands were tied...as in 'I don't have anyone else that we can bring in'.

Imagine being one of those players and told you were being banished from the club but actually, you need to do a job for the club/manager that wants to banish you, at 3pm on Saturday?!

Like I said, can't fault his passion...just went about it the wrong way.

To be fair though our most embarrassing was under John Sillett, so that Worcester result judged on its own isn't really a fair barometer.

I don't really get the triumphal jubilation at his failure that a few people on here seem to share. He managed us with dignity through the Northampton move and points deduction, producing an exciting team, scoring lots of goals. I know there is a view that he got lucky inheriting such an attacking force, but we should remember that team included Carl Baker who is/ was marmite to our fans and Wilson, who had never got a look in until Pressley arrived. I imagine Wilson will certainly view Pressley's arrival as a turning point for him and his career, which Pressley can look back on with some pride.

Leon Clarke's departure was a big loss to him, and looking back was a significant turning point. The team wasn't the same for the remainder of that season, and things obviously then went wrong back at HR, but as far as I know Pressley has never slagged the club off since he left, so I take no pleasure in his failure at Carlisle.

Yes he was talking about Reda Johnson in particular after the Worcestor game.
We had him as a guest at the Leamington and Warwick supporters club a while ago and I asked him who he was talking about in that “outburst” and he confirmed that it was Johnson.
I have no axe to grind with Pressley and respect the job he did in trying circumstances.
Puts it into perspective that your remit and goals when arriving at the club is to cut the wage bill and try and develop youth/academy players and fast track them into the first team shop window.

Hasn’t really pulled up any trees since he left us either-you can put your house on it though that he will be turning up again somewhere soon at another club.

I've read this thread title a few times now and each time I think 'Thank the Lord', then remember it has already happened.

Mind you, I had no real animus towards him. I even rather liked the way he came across in the media but that 0-2 Boxing Day defeat at Doncaster I'll never forget.

I just remember fans flashing their phone lights across the ricoh at each other as the football was so piss poor

He inherited that attacking team from Robins, went tits up when he brought in his own players. Plays boring as fuck football too. He'll be lucky to find himself another job.
