Not sure of that. Maddison is a local lad and came through our academy. They tend to get given more leeway.

Also McCallum is far from the finished article and can make the odd error/poor pass etc. I don't think it'd take too many for some fans to get on his back and see how he deals with it.

Differences are: in Brum we've largely got a 'hardcore' support who are probably less likely to do so compared to the more casual fans we'd also get at the Ricoh and we've got a ready made replacement in Mason to come in should it happen. Plus McCallum seems more level headed than Maddison, but that doesn't mean to say he won't have one eye on being at Norwich which may affect his concentration.
I just don't get this 'hardcore' more supportive St Andrew's crowd. Where I sit a lot of the people around and about are far more negative than anything I heard at the Ricoh.

If we've got £3-3.5m before add-ons etc that is a good price.

Indifferent about the loan back as we have Mason waiting in the wings but what if Mason got injured or struggled to recapture his early season form? as I said above at least if McCallum does seem to have his head elsewhere (although I don't think it will be) it's not vital to our team like Maddison was as we've got a good ready made replacement and in training etc it's squad continuity.

Maddison had replacements waiting in the wings though liek job, cole, Murphy, Rueben.

He has been shite for a a bit before he was sold anyway

Looking the other way, I hope Herne Bay had a sell on clause. I know it does us out of money but we got him for nothing and then have made a tidy profit on him. The footballing pyramid needs money to filter all the way down through deals like this.

Even something like a 5% clause would get them a decent whack which would probably cover their wages for a season.

He wasn’t on contract there. They asked for a friendly but we declined

What I was trying to say was they’ve took a loan out that if they don’t pay back they lose absolutely everything even though the loan is 10% of the asset base - their finances are totally fucked
Well if they will spend 4 million quid on will grigg

I'd say in Maddisons case it was the fact he was a local lad and had been hyped as a future star as a 16 year old, came in and stood out then left prematurely that upset people. He was already idolised by the kids, I know when maddison left it broke my then 5 6 old old heart. I dont think McCallum has the same pull, plus we have mason who was probably player of the year before he lost his place, whereas maddison left a big creative black hole.

Every player sold attracts the same general opinion of asset stripping. Clarke Harris is likely to go for over £1m today which is poor business on our part as we gave him away yet oddly this will get no negativity
Seems to me there is a lot more frothing about 'frothing' than there is actual frothing.

Robins and the current strategy has been in place for nearly three years. Bayliss was in the system already. McCallum is the first we have sold from the development pool, and the whole plan was always to buy players with potential, develop them and sell on at a profit. As such McCallum's sale is completely in line with the Club's oft stated strategic direction.

I don't know the figure but I guess somewhere between 10 and 15 players have been brought in for "development" in that time and so far three, Westbrook, Hyam and McCallum have become regulars. Bear in mind there will also be some wastage in the form of players who do not kick on, but in the meantime consume wages. I would hope we are able to move on a development player for over £1m every year - 18 months.

Players like McCallum & Bayliss attract value for their future potential, not their current performance. Bayliss was regularly the target for criticism last year. A Bayliss out and a James Allen in actually strengthens the squad, even though the latter is valued at less in the market.

Some people will always look for every downside and complain. Lets say we kept Sam to the end of the season, got promoted, and then sold him for a higher fee, they would have been happy would they?

Selling academy players to cover losses playing out of the city is criminal....Baylis £2m McCallum £3m

we should be in a position to go out and draft 1 or 2 in that will see us comfortably win the division.

Absolute mess !

TBF Robins did sound pretty annoyed.
Thought that myself especially as he’s selling academy players for money £5m worth and he can’t use it he won’t be around forever with that carry on,again he should be out drafting players in today if we don’t go up people will say we was in the position in jan and we didn’t take the gamble

We are a league one club ffs it's what happens, also bayliss money went on godden and the signing on/loan fees for players we signed in the summer

Robins has also said he will get some of the money in the summer.... Of course we have to cover losses, what would you rather, we sign up to a deal at the Ricoh that could cause the club to not exist? The situation sucks massive balls but we couldnt have accepted what wasps asked for otherwise the whole club would be potentially fucked... hopefully we get back there next season but has to be on terms that favour us not just wasps

I get the sentiment but McCallum isnt an academy graduate. we brought him cheap and flipped him for millions withing a year.

we paid peanuts for him a while back from Hern Bay. he came through the Vardy academy I think.

not ideal but nothing about Cov is ever easy
