Fans who just stay in the bar..... (12 Viewers)

These things happen and most of the people drinking during the match probably don't plan on it.

How many of us have went to the pub for "one" at 4pm and then staggered home at 2am with half a kebab down our tops?

We're all human, yeah. Live and let live I say.

It’s mostly the press corp from the CET and other papers - I mean how do you think they make that bollox up

We always wait and clap them off regardless of result. Mutual show of appreciation, particularly after a long travel.
Be interested to know if you done that at the end of the games with that spineless bunch of misfits that went down to L2?

I don't understand massive nerds who get there an hour early with a flask and a packed lunch. Then buy a program and sit on their phone posting on here during the match and actually think they know more about football than the professionals who are paid to know.

You missed the tartan blanket over their knees...

More out of a sense of duty, but we're often nearl last out as daughter doesn't like a crush and always needs the loo!

I'm a stickler for staying until the final whistle. Maybe it is being a bit tight and wanting full value - or just don't want to miss a goal / incident.
I know some go just before 90 minutes to beat the traffic/congestion...though this hasn't been bad recently!
There were about 5 games in a row a couple of years back when the whole defence left a couple of minutes before the end

When i lived in Cov i went to every game bar work. I took my Nephew who was a Leeds fan (his dad was) so i just kept taking him to games knowing one day i would win (including u21 games). He is now a city fan and works for the club. I would drop him off home then drink until i was stupid (a villa fan lol). Back at HR, i would leave my seat 4 or 5 mins early, buy 4 pints, 2 for me and my mate then be back for kick.off. Watch all the second half and go home (pissed off/clubbing as we won).

I am not a drinker and my match day experience is not enhanced/tainted by the bonhomie of a bar. I have been to the Roost on a couple of occasions and found it a positive vibe far removed from the Coventry match day scene.
What I don't understand is why you would go to a football match to stay in the bar whilst it is played or go to a game to get smashed?
At the Notts County game at Meadow Lane, when we lost, there was a guy who got on the same train at Nuneaton and then the same return in the evening. He was so out of it that he probably thought we had won. On second thoughts....

Up to them really.

The one I don’t get is the odd person who sits as near as they can to the away end and then spend the whole game not watching the game instead choosing to spend the game facing the away crowd shouting abuse at them and making hand gestures. Why?
Because it's fun:)

Honestly don’t get it.

These are fans who pay for a ticket, travel to an away game and spend the entire time drinking in the underbelly of the away end. Never once coming out to watch the match!!

All those videos of them with flares and pints flying in the air. Looks brilliant-until you realise that there’s a fuckin match going on!

They’re singing City songs whilst choosing to not watch them, literally 10 yards away.

I raised this on here after the Birmingham city game when I went for a pee fifteen minutes into the second half and approx 100 plus lads with city shirts on still drinking. Couldn’t believe it and smacks of not really that interested in the game despite them saying they are.

Things to consider:
1) Anxiety can be triggered by stress/nerves. This is biological fact, ie., incontrovertible.
2) Alcohol is a depressant, it ‘calms the nerves’.
3) Once the brain learns to drink as a coping strategy this becomes hardwired, impossible to resist.
4) The same co-morbidity accompanies other stress inducing behaviour, gambling, armed combat, etc.

Hero's to a man (and woman).
The discipline involved to not walk that extra 10 yards to cheer on your heroes but to remain in the breeze block concourse drinking over priced pissy lager and risking soiling the garishly coloured Stone Island over shirt their mum and dad bought for Christmas with flying beer and condiments is incredible. Should be an Olympic event. Got nothing but admiration.

Claude, how dare you, my shiny purple SI overshirt is not garish!

I’ve got to say, it felt like the second half started ten minutes late which probably led to people staying down a bit longer... and sometimes if you’re having a good time with a beer you forget yourself.
It’s not just at City, most other teams will have fans that stay down in the bar area. When I’ve been away with England there’s thousands that don’t either go to the game or watch the game in a bar... or most shockingly - leave before half time!

Why bother going to the game then? If that’s what people wish to do can’t they just go to the boozer instead?

I agree, I want to watch the match myself. I started going up the City as an 8 year old for love of wanting to watch the football rather the love of drinking and I guess that’s stayed with me.
We’re playing some fantastic football this season too and getting results, plenty to make people want to watch the football rather than sling beer about on a concourse surely?

I don't get why people put stuff up their nose at a football match.
I saw this for the first time with my own eyes in the toilets at Southend last week at helf time. I couldnt work it out either. My first thought was what a waste of money (and no I wasnt thinking about Bakayoko!).

I know a lad who regularly gets a ticket to a away game, gets the train to the town or city we are playing in, and doesn't bother leaving the pub for the match.

That defies logic unless he has a football banning order and goes along for the craic ?

No banning order, i generally think he always intends to go the game but starts getting on the beer and then just doesn't want to leave the pub. I can't get my head round it but its happend that much it doesn't surprise me anymore.

I was finishing a pint when Willis scored in the play off final

Jodi Jones missed the Willis goal in the playoffs final, he asked me who scored, god knows what he had been drinking.
