All estimates of infection are the same regardless of strategy and Italy clearly is either lying about deaths or infection rates

I think you were trying to reply to a different comment here G? But what makes you say that about Italy?

China numbers will be complete bollocks, millions will have got it and god knows how many will have died
Agreed Dom, but if it would be around 80% worst case as our lot were talking, that would end up being well over a billion people infected and millions dead, they couldn't cover that up.

Bear in mind a lot of the country has been locked down for a few weeks. Now people are mingling again it may well resurge. Although I’m sure there will be plenty massaging of the figures.

It wouldn’t be 80% in a country that can literally lock up all its citizens at the drop of a hat. That’s the issue with China, aside from the possibility of dodgy data, they have the ability to take actions not many other countries could. Well have to see how more liberal democracies handle it for a decent comparison.

Yeah it has so much to gain from lying about it.

It has a 6% mortality rate versus 1% or less in countries with a similar age demographic so either it’s health service is a disaster or there are other factors

True, but then again there’s a lot of very remote regions in China,
A significant % of that 1.4 billion will live very isolated lifestyles.

It’s mortality rate is 6 times higher than any other European country

Or they didn’t implement social distancing early enough.

I don't think they're lying about infection rate, they just don't have the capacity to test everyone. Most minor cases won't be reported.

Sick boy claims they have a far better test rate than the uk

Yes but they have an older population who socialise more than most countries. They also, as you pointed out, had a high number of cases early on so more people have been ill longer. Also need to account for the testing profile and how many unknown cases there are and the fact mortality rate anywhere is an extrapolation of a relatively small sample size, are people with mild symptoms not getting tested etc so there are some mitigating factors.

There is a lot more day to day socialising and the kissing greeting probably doesn't help, it's also common between close male friends and relations.

They don’t have a older population than Japan and only marginally so versus Germany

Supposedly they did that well but had one super spreader with no symptoms.

Really - the Italian health minister said it’s the oldest global population - it isn’t - and 92% of deaths are in one area

If Johnson was saying this sort of tripe he’d be accused well of lying

Yeah and it so happens to be one of the most densely populated parts of the country.

Italy now has 20% of global deaths and 90% in one area.

I said this the other day, I don't think they were able to track down patient zero.

think youre correct sick boy and the misdiagnosis of another person on 2-3 occasions. Think we also touched upon whether most people who were concerned they were infected going to see doctors (as opposed to a phone/111 service) which could have infected others who were ill.

Possibly one or more of these things, who knows, but hope it improves soon over there

??

You are a strange one.

Well either we are performing actions or we are not - all I see on here is we need to do more. What more do you think we need to do?

Japan has one of the lowest infection growth rates in the world doesn’t it? Learnt from SARS.

Germany? Sorry it’s absurd to say a country has over 20% of all deaths and that’s not an anomaly

Yeah, the most populated and densely populated region in the country. As I said before, the choice has moved onto who to prioritise and who not to, it is worrying and ever so depressing. As I have said before, most people here do not respect the state and try to bend its rules, its a mindset amongst many people. This has led to a blase attitude that won't have helped, much like many people from Lombardia going skiing a couple of weeks ago while in lockdown.

A stupid law here is that to get a day of paid sick leave you have to go to the doctor and get a certificate!!

In North American sports, the NBA season (basketball) was suspended yesterday, the NHL (hockey) season was suspended today and the MLB (baseball) preseason will likely be suspended very soon as well. These decisions are better than playing in empty stadiums imo
MLS also suspended
