Solutions to complete the Season (3 Viewers)

How about continue until we can't, then promote the teams in 1st and 2nd. No relegation and just have larger leagues next year. Could reduce league by a team by 1 a year over the next two to get back to normal

Lots of good suggestions in this thread. I personally would go with postponing the competition for as long is appropriate, and then conclude. There would then need to be a catch up period which would be a combination of
Cancellation of Euros
Two matches a week on resumption
Behind closed doors on resumption (earlier resumption?)
Changes to next season (no EFL trophy / League Cup / reduced number of fixtures)
Reduced fixtures could be done on a seeding basis based on this seasons performance. This could ensure a fair balance of fixtures for all teams. Crickets county championship has dealt with this in the past. Not the same I know.

Big big issue is cash flow for football clubs particularly in the lower leagues. Perhaps now is the time for Sky and The Premier League to show a bit of philanthropy. (Pig has just flown past my window)

They can do promotions and no relegations on current standings

We've had a great season and I would be frustrated if it was cancelled, suspended, delayed etc

However...

In times like this you have to realise its only a game and theres more on life, like ours and everyone associated with a football club's health.

Best case is every single game is played behind closed doors with free iFollow for season tickets, discounted rate for members and standard fee for everyone else.

Worst case is the season becomes void and we just have to accept it.

It is only a game, but they are also businesses. No games equals no money coming in, which could cause some teams serious trouble as staff/players still need to be played.

Also, how would you compensate teams like us/Leeds/West Brom that are so close to promotion and the improved finance that would bring? We get about £6.5m just for competing next year if we're in the Championship, expect we'd request that as compensation as a minimum of the league was voided. I can't see it happening.

I think we'll get a couple more weeks of games in, then it might be postponed until after the peak. Really can't see any form of cancellation as the compensation that would need paying would be significant.

Not going to happen. What if Cov and Rotherham play 37 games and go up....say Oxford play 36 and are behind Rotherham by 2 points. How is that fair?

People need to start thinking about legal implications of all options. It's great coming up with these hypothetical options but they simply are ludicrous due to the lack of fairness and potential for legal action.

The common sense way if they have to stop the season altogether is to give everyone their average points earned over the full allocation of games or up to the point where everyone has 'played' the same amount of games.
They can't void and write off the season, there is way too much money at stake in the championship/premier league level and if they cant do it there then it stands to reason that they can't void l1 and l2 season off either.

Wouldn't be fair.

1. Some teams may have played fewer games (Swindon/Crewe in L2)
2. Some teams may have a higher proportion of difficult games remaining.

Pools panel would be fairer, albeit still imperfect.

Again, they can't do your first suggestion because it's not fair. What if a team is lower down the league but had an 'easier' run in against lower sides and could've picked up a higher average PPG compared to their PPG average so far? What about teams coming into form the past few weeks?

It just can't be fair for a few reasons.

Your second sentence is correct though.

No they cant. That would open the EFL up to legal action by teams who will say that they could've got promoted had they played all their games.

They can there are clauses in the league rules which all teams have signed up to as members

Can you show me them? Not trying to be difficult...I just find it incredulous that they would have those rules in place (and that teams would agree to them) when it would be massively open to scrutiny in terms of screwing teams over.

Happy to be proven wrong.

You could just do it on points per game.

Two things in this thread which I must comment on.

Firstly, this system that I use assumes it is the final day of the season and where the team will finish. If the season cuts off for some reason you would expect whatever position the teams are in this rating league to be their final positions.

However, with all threads, the genius is often lurking somewhere else...

Play all remaining games on Sensible Soccer on the Amiga...

This, of course, is the correct and only right thing to do.

I would definetly offer my services but my demands would be to buy Asprilla from Newcastle to partner Ndlovu, and Mark Draper from Villa in an attacking midfielder role.

Already transfer listed John Salako to get extra money.

They can equalise the season with each team getting a point a game until the end

Ooh fook I thing this season could end in tears.
Logic walks out the door when Clubs/ money and emotions come in to play.

SISU’s lawyers are likely to be switched on already.

Sensible and only option (fair option) is suspend and play remaining games when it’s safe to do so. Delay start of the 20/21 season to October if you have to. Also transfer window doesn’t open in summer until 19/20 season has finished and allow any current loans to be extended.

Promote top two and go straight to play offs behind closed doors. And same with bottom four. Desperate I know but better than voiding the season. Hate this idea personally... so fingers crossed there's a fairer solution. Glad I'm not making the decisions..
I think the decision is easy if it is the right one for us.
After 34 games we are only 4 short of the Prem season anyway.

And maybe for this season only dispense with the play offs. Straight fight and top three go up from each division. It will be a nightmare as it is fitting all the games it without having extra matches for the play offs and a Wembley final.

What about the cashflow? No games will mean minimal income. Players will still need their wages. Club staff will still need their wages.

The league have standard protection clauses which will allow them the final say

If they did go down the simulation route, for reference I simulated the run-in last night on FIFA 20 and the result was 'EA Catalog Update Error, Please Restart' so get a couple of quid on that, hot tip

Can't believe no one has mentioned this, but Sunderland currently sit in 7th outside the playoffs.

End the season as it is lads!

Again, as per me asking you earlier on...have you seen those in writing or are you making an assumption? Please show me if the former.

To repeat, I'm not being difficult with you G, I would just be astounded if they allowed some of the situations mentioned above, to happen.
