Exactly. If it goes to a vote it’s going to be very tight and the teams with nothing to play for will ere on the side of the caution.
I doubt there will be any legal action. You wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if the decision has been made in the interest of public health and your gripe is losing out of profit. Plus, if the government shut down sporting events legislation will be introduced so you won’t be able to contest it.

Season will continue. Sod the calendar. So what if next season starts in Oct. So we cancel the league up and efl trophy next season. Or the fixtures are differently placed.

But it works both ways.
If it's kept as it is then there will be plenty of teams launching legal action to say we were denied the chance promotion/avoiding relegation.
It depends what the choice of options are. If this is going to continue for months, as the government stated last night, you’re not going to fit the games in. It’s then a choice of rolling into next season which opens a can of worms. So you’re left with ending the season as it is now, estimating points from the remaining games or voiding. IF it comes to those being the options voiding is a possibility.

Indeed, and for the vast majority that’s what it will probably be like.
However, if this is an attempt to suggest it’s not serious, then there’s an abject failure to understand the simple, basic arithmetic of the issue.
In very straightforward terms, even if it’s a minor illness for 99% and only 1% develop symptoms that need hospitalisation, then given the likely size of the infected population it’s still going to swamp the NHS.
That’s why it’s important to treat it seriously now, and try to slow down the spread as much as possible whilst improving the structures that can deal with it.
That isn’t panic or hyperbole, that’s simple cold logic that saves lives. It won’t be like a mild cold for everyone.

They need to finish the season, however long that takes, next season is precisely that NEXT season, it doesn't need to start at a specific time, it can start when it can do. Yes I'm biased like the rest of us, and will be devastated and gutted if this brilliant season gets voided.

You seem to miss the point. The teams have self quarantined so the fixtures cannot be fulfilled. Whether a player laughed or swine flu went unnoticed is irrelevant.

Except that other senior virologists in Europe and elsewhere seem to disagree with how that approach is being managed. The UK, or more technically England and Wales is pretty much the only place in Europe that isn’t taking more stringent measures to try to slow the spread.
Even previous government health specialists have come out against the current relaxed approach, what’s your level of expertise to discount all of their theories?
I hope it’s better than your statement that you can’t slow the spread down because that’s patently not supported by the evidence.

That is not their view. Their view is it needs doing to flatten the curve, the behavioural psychologists view is that if we do it too soon people will get bored and stop listening. It’s not an epidemiological argument, it’s a psychological one.

Just a few points for the several posters falling over themselves to try and sound smart by repeating what the government experts said last night or saying the whole thing is hyperbole.
Most of us saw the press conference last night and understand what the plan is so please stop condescendingly explaining it to everyone on the thread.
Look at the bigger picture. No country is following the strategy we are. Our strategy is unorthodox and high risk. They’re all listening to their own experts who are coming to different conclusions. Our plan may prove to be the best course of action in the long term, only time will tell, but even if that’s the case things aren’t that straight forward.
Firstly, the day after the government announced the new phase they’re already losing control as organisations are shutting things down anyway. You might consider that “hyperbole” but almost every other affected country is doing similar things, sports seasons cancelled etc. The league can’t function with teams having to go into self isolation. Delay fixtures for two weeks and you’ll just have other teams in isolation.
Secondly, there is going to be huge political pressure on this strategy. Journalists were already asking awkward questions last night. What do you think the public reaction will be when pensioners are dropping by the hundreds and the government are saying “herd immunity”?
The strategy might have been “war gamed” by a nerd with a PPE degree playing at being a tech entrepreneur but that doesn’t mean it’s going to survive contact with reality.
I actually think the broad idea is smart but it’s going to take balls of steel and the public reaction to it is going to be intense as people start dying in higher numbers.
