It's a solution because it's the easiest thing to do. No promotions are guaranteed so technically no-one is missing out, while clubs that are relegated and being punished without having fully earned it. No-one knows exactly what is going to happen but voiding is definitely a real possibility.
Just can't see it. Everyone I hear on 5Live is talking about playing the season out, however long it takes.
I think so many will lose faith in football if a whole season is just simply voided.
Not fair on Liverpool, who have had such a sensational season. Not fair on Sheff Utd, who are having a fantastic season too, as are Leicester.
Not fair on Burnley and Southampton and Palace, who could all have been expected to be fighting relegation and are well clear
There are 13 teams in the Championship, all with the potential to make the playoffs. Even QPR in 13th place are just 6 points shy of 6th place.
Not fair on any of those teams. Not fair on Leeds at the top, who are 7 points clear of the side in 3rd and who were last in the Premier League in 2004.
In League One, 9th place Doncaster are just 5 points away from a playoff place. No fair on any of those sides still in with a chance. Not fair on the City of course.
Down to 9th in League Two is only 4 points off a playoff spot.
There are teams that will be mid-table in all leagues that will have been expected to struggle. For them, to be clear of the threat of relegation is a successful season
I think voiding the season will cause real damage to clubs and fans and create a lack of trust and belief.
Surely it will always be in the backs of our minds in years to come that even if you are 20 points clear with 7 games to go, you could still have that certainty ripped away from you if anything like this happened again.
Sure, highly unlikely, but these are mad times we are living in.
Was listening to 5Live a lot yesterday. The general sense I was getting was that they have to finish this season at all costs
To not do so could cause real damage to faith and belief in this great sport of ours.
