He's the Brexit Bogeyman, they've been gunning for him from day 1 and now he's been caught with his trousers down and the press smell blood. I'm 50/50 on whether he'll stay or go.

I'm not inclined to think that Tom
It would be s huge about face .
It literally is this or an even bigger deception behind the scenes.
IMO .
Which would make this the appetizer

The future for the media under this operation was always heading into choppy waters .
If this is exploited to avert that?

I see trip advisor has had to suspend new reviews on Barnard Castle following a wave of come and have your eyes tested, great place to escape Covid, great place to take your wife on her birthday type comments.

If anyone in theri tourism office has an ounce of publicity savvy they'll be asking to sponsor refs/linesman and doing some sort of fundraising with the RNIB.

Next guide dog puppy to be born has to be called Barnard as well.

Of course you are right - but people are up in arms because his actions have effectively ended any kind of sensible behaviours from a big swathe of our population.

That’s the real worry now in terms of what will follow in a couple of weeks.

I totally agree. I genuinely think that a lot of people have adopted a 'fuck it' mentality now.

Hard to blame them really.

I just think bringing him up time and time again pulls away from the bigger picture.

Couldn't believe how many people I saw out and about today. Supermarket was rammed and basically no social distancing going on.

It feels like some kind of unofficial end of lockdown?

Of course it is. It was inevitable after the events of the last few days. Lockdown is totally unenforcable now as 'instinct' is apparently an excuse to do what you like. The government have absolutely fucked it, they value Cummings over Public Health Guidance.

Huge coronavirus breakthrough as WHO claim second wave ‘being increasingly ruled out’

Just wish others would Read other sources other than the mainstream media. We're going in the right direction. Yes i know this is an express article but the facts and scientific breakthroughs are there. They just arent being reported enough
I'm not sure the quotes from WHO match the tone of the article. They only say we are now better prepared and that lockdown has prevented things getting out of control.

Would desperately like some good news but not sure this is it.

What sources are you suggesting?

I’ve had a look at the WHO website and can’t see anything suggesting there won’t be a second wave.

Yup. That article basically says a second wave is less likely because we've implemented and are implementing lockdown measures.

(Oh, and the Express is pretty mainstream!!)

Interestingly I thought public trust in the media from both left and right was at an all time low but as soon as theres a story that suits a narrative people gobble it up like a fat kid at a buffet. I'm in no way saying I'm immune to this btw, just an observation...

The mental gymnastics people are going through to defend Cummings is quite remarkable.
It’s like listening to my 11year old when she’s in trouble. As one lie unravels she starts entwining it with a new one, rinse and repeat. Only this is apparently adults we’re talking about with the most responsible jobs in the country. It’s truly shameful and a new low for government.

Exactly! If Cummings had just come out and said 'I was in the wrong, I apologise' it would soon get brushed under the carpet (like Kinnock).

But no. They come out with contradicting stories. Lies. Outright contempt for the British public. They dig themselves deeper and deeper into a web of lies that they begin to contradict original accounts. It's just pathetic.

This story is quite clearly true though, thats not always the case.
Whether it's getting too much attention or not is a matter for personal opinion.

Worst bit of this for me is the media ignoring all the positives at the moment.

The WHO saying a second wave is now really unlikely. The plummeting figures and good news stories now coming from around Europe. The scientific evidence showing the virus is all but dying out.

Why arent they asking questions about this? Why are they not asking when people can see family again? Is it true that due to the above reasoning that we can get back to normality faster than thought?

No its the same question about cummings. Pathetic

Because it’s not true?

The WHO warned about a second peak just yesterday: World Health Organization warns of 'second peak' in areas where coronavirus is declining

The BBC, mirror and observer (possibly among others) all reported that he made a second trip, it seems one man seeing someone who looks like Dominic Cummings was enough to take this story and run with it. That's not even a story, but when you want blood it matters not.

2004 new infections

134 deaths

Numbers encouraging, fingers crossed there is no bank holiday lag that means tomorrow's go in the opposite direction.

So the bloke drove miles away and people are losing their shit but never had an issue with paramedics mingling on a bridge with the public in their hundreds?

I don't get it.

Because the guy who was partly behind the message "stay at home and isolate if a member of your household had symptoms" decided that he didn't fall under his own advice and was allowed to make a decision based on instinct. As if he was the only person with a small child with an ill member of the family who was concerned about if they'd be able to take care of him.

Then there is the fact they have family 5 miles away who are in a lower risk category. Plus the dates just happen to co-incide with his mum's and wife's birthdays.

Plus his (or at least Johnson's) argument is he did it to prevent the spread of the disease. How the fuck does travelling the length of the country with the intention of putting a member of a household with suspected covid into another household stop spreading the disease?

Plus his wife writing about how ill he was when in fact they were out and about.

And that the Barnard Castle trip was called a fabrication and untrue at the time before Cummings admitted they'd gone there

Then there's the idea that it's acceptable to test your vision by going for a drive.

But you keep on harping on about those ambulance drivers :emoji_rolling_eyes:

Side note, I’m seeing adverts for dates with sexy milfs who want action now on here. I was sure to use incognito mode. Nick?

No, the idea trust in the media is declining was more fake news from the Tories to distract from criticism: No, trust in the media has not collapsed because of coronavirus | YouGov

Except for all the MP’s t gf at campaigned for brexit, Papers that have been campaigning for brexit for decades and untold amounts of political commentators that argued for brexit turning on him. The only people making this about brexit are the cult brexiteers who put brexit above all else, including the deaths of 46k people through inept government that really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone now given the tissue web of lies they’ve conducted to save Cummings. It’s truly shameful.

Nick Ferrari’s LBC phone-in gave me a chuckle this morning, one of the calls went something like this:

Ranting Caller: “The account Cummings gave yesterday was a pack of lies, we know that because he’s already a PROVEN LIAR!”

NF: “OK, how do we know that?”

RC: “Because he put the £350m on the side of the bus of course!”

NF: “Ok, respectfully, may I ask whether you voted remain in the referendum?”

RC: “well… yes, I did”

NF: “And again respectfully, do you think that your position on Brexit might be influencing your judgement on this matter?”

RC: “errrr… yes”

Laugh? I nearly choked on my scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.
Warburton toast and half tin of beans more likely

If this persists as a news item for another week he will go - he should have resigned anyway - he’s placed his puppet in a very difficult position

The anger though is more at the individual than the crime

Fixed for you
