Just how big is our fan base ? (2 Viewers)

“Rubbish” seems a bit harsh. You think we will get 18k at st Andrews or wherever else we are playing away from cov next season ?

No the post was leaving out any arguments about where we play, bring playing outside cov into the equation & that has a big impact, no matter what the division.

You said Platts post was rubbish when he specifically raised a point about 15,000 fans?

I think next season, presuming we are back at our rightful (albeit tenanted) home, I’d be disappointed with anything less than a 15k average and a couple of 28k plus attendances. Trying not to think too much about the equivalent at StAn.

Cov are one of the most supported clubs in the WORLD, the problem is the fans never get together at the same time. LOL

We are poorly supported considering we have Nuneaton, Bedworth, Rugby, Leamington, Warwick, Stratford, Atherstone and to an extent Solihull. We should have 30-40k hardcore

We do get 40k+, can only get 40k+ fans into the ground when we play at Wembley.

is there any reason why we think we will be back at the ricoh ?. Court case still continues and little sign of it stopping.

Right again- and it is a big part of it.
Unless you've got a twat of a son-in-law who supports the scum Villa and has brought my grandson up to support them as well! More reason to bloody well hate them!

I’m hoping for a combination of common and financial sense from both sides. Won’t hold my breath though.

i just cant see it. surely ?.....

If Wasps are in a financially secure position they won't engage ccfc.
If Wasps are in a non financially secure position they might engage ccfc.
If ccfc know wasps are financially secure, its court case all the way
If ccfc know wasps arent financially secure, why would they go back ?, distress even more until the may go pop ?

i just cant see a way that gets us back next season unless wasps go bump

pretty big factor for the argument isn't it, unless you know something we all don't. Even in Cov we will struggle as people have walked away. In Brum (or West Brom) we will really struggle to put thousands more on the gate and if we do, it will be mainly due to the quality of the opposition

Is there really a significant number of supporters who have walked away and won’t attend in Cov?

I assume then attendances across the country will be down after this crises as fans have walked away

The Northampton ground share angered fans a lot more and they returned when we were back at the Rioch?

hope your right.

Moving a 2nd time is always going to create less noise, in the same way if Birmingham said no next season but West Brom said yes, even less people would be angry at the 3rd move than the 1st and 2nd.

Withstanding a return to the wasps ground, I would love to see us pack out St Andrews and treat every game like an away one, would be a cracking atmosphere next season, its just not sustainable

We often did perhaps not 40k but often mid to high 20s but when you have idiots reducing the stadium capacity from a 40000 to a 21000 all seater including away fans what do you expect, capacity increased a bit later when some terracing returned but the damage was done. Once the new East Stand was built our capacity was just over 23000 with away fans at 4000 so 19k maximum home support.

There are still 30,000 hardcore - When the time is right and if we ever did return to the Ricoh as a member of the Premier league it would be sold out every week

Is the idiot you’re referring to not Jimmy Hill as I thought it was his idea?

That’s not what hardcore support is. The hardcore support is the number of fans who would watch the club regardless of what league they’re playing in - for CCFC it’s about 8,000 I think

I’m always trying to put weight on. “When you hit 30 it will happen” didn’t happen.
“Mid 30s” hasn’t happened.

Yep. Also got told I’d put it on when I got married. I put 2 stone on in the last three years. That’s because for most of that time I had a job that meant staying away from home sometimes with a £25 allowance per night. And we’d always find a spoons. I struggle to knock it any further than 10st2lb

There are different levels of fans so if you include all variants then at least 50k based on Wembley

I say the above with caution based on the below table

grade 1 fan home or away regular attendee of a game , not having a pissing contest about if you go home and away or just home or just away , the fact is you go .

grade 2 fan someone who can go occasionally follows club generally

grade 3 fan goes a couple of time a year ( me ) follows club generally

grade 4 fan never goes for various reasons but generally follows club

Grade 5 fan does not generally follow club would have no idea who the keeper is but would go to a cup game etc

just my thoughts and not definitive
Grade 0 - attends forest green rovers in the pouring rain in the leasing.com trophey, and hasn't missed an under 23,21 or 18 game since 1984

I've been a heavyweight for years. I'm 5'9" and 100kg (just about 16 stone) I was 103kg before lockdown so somehow, I've lost a bit. Can't for the life of me think how?

Do we have a lot of fans from Warwickshire then? Nuneaton side I can see but south Warwickshire is pure disdain for the city of Coventry isn’t it?

I’m from Stratford and have a collection of 10 or so mates from surrounding towns and villages who we go with. Having said that, I am the only city fan in Stratford I know. Nearly all my mates are villa fans, the odd Liverpool/United glory supporters. That said, all the villa fans actively want us to do well and come to the odd game. They find the fact that most of our fans see them as rivals hilarious. May be a generational thing, age 28-35ish.

I'm 6ft 1in (and a half. Don't forget the half).
I've put on a stone since lockdown through eating half my bodyweight in cake and biscuits and drowning in cider and Jameson's.
Shit, I'm gonna have to sort my fat bastard self out soon.

I think our fans are great but a lot are delusional - cov have a hardcore of 8-10 thousand who are the lifeblood of the club.
5k of which who support no matter what and have largeky supported us at Brum.

Not sure next season I'd want us back at the Ricoh unless a hell of a lot of thing changed in out favour.

Short term as things stand think we need to stay at St Andrews and as an earlier poster had said more need to support at St Andrews all be it hopefully short term.
Unfortunately think some will not thought that is what needs to happen in the short term.

To answer question currently 10k realistically tops all things going welll 20K

I got a food poisoning bug earlier last week and lost 7lbs in one night. Found at one stage in the night that it was easier sleeping on the khasi than getting back to bed only to return to the bathroom again and again. A rapid weight loss not particularly recommended !

I contracted Campylobacter just before Christmas. As you say spent most of the time on the loo. Seemed to have had the world passing through my rear end. Hardly ate anything for 2 weeks and needed antibiotics to kill it off. Lost just over a stone and managed to put only half of it back on. Looking forward to my Christmas dinner 2020.

The other thing to remember is how much the attendances were under-declared back in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s etc. (Particularly for cup games where the gate spilt would be different).

I used to see the attendances flash up
at say 16000 (when the HR capacity was about 28000) then try to see if there were anything like 12000 spaces / empty seats.

It all became obvious during the “bung” era where certain managers were accused of doing unrecorded cash deals on transfers. The cash was generated through the turnstiles and not declared as ticket sales / attendance.

Anyway, my point being that in trying to compare what the attendances were back in the 80’s to now you need to have in mind about a 25% (IMO) skim-off.

Glamour games possibly.

v the likes of Watford, Burnley or Bournemouth?

No chance.
