You know what it's like on here. People like to be faux offended to show they're not part of the problem. Easy stick to beat.

Tbh using this as a vehicle to be a c**t detracts from the genuine protest and the looters are all in the same bracket. It diminishes the point and defeats what's trying to be achieved by genuine heartfelt reasoned protest.

I just now saw the footage on Twitter of the copper who got clotheslined off his horse- what the hell was that about?

She rode full tilt into a traffic light... not sure how the hell it happened mind.

Apparently someone threw a flare at them as they advanced, this officers horse bolted, threw the rider as it ran into the post, and carried on to knock down a protestor.

I only saw the short clip - it was certainly moving at some speed.

Looked a massive impact, not sure all the riot gear would have offered much protection. It hit the protestor with some force too.

On a tangent but it does seem weird that police horses are still a thing, esp in riot situations as they're one of the most nervous and skittish animals on the planet.

I saw one slip and fall over on that plastic floor outside the Emirates when there was a small altercation.

No need for it and the horse nearly fell on someone. Luckily, the copper and horse seemed okay, but it was dangerous to a lot of people, including myself.

I’m hating all of this at the moment.

USA is a projection of institutional racism throughout the world.

I also hope/trust that there will change. But that will need evolution not revolution.

Bigger crowd = greater probability of the occasional nobhead

There appear to have been a lot of occasional knobheads present. Looking at some of the videos there is a constant stream of missiles being thrown at the police on horseback and at one stage a bike is wheeled at them. Indeed, I wonder if anyone present isn't a full-time knobhead.

Just seen that police woman going into the traffic lights and people throwing bikes at the police horses. Disgusting. People dancing about and celebrating that she came off.

How about the c**t minority of "protestors" and the c**t minority of the police over here just meet up in a field for a tear up?

Most people protested peacefully.

Genuine question - are there still police officers like that in the UK? When is the last incident of UK police brutality? Not condoning it in the least but I thought that this was more of a 20th century issue.

Although it’s not the exact answer there were 163 deaths in police custody in the last 10 years

Which is great and fair play to them. Unfortunately, like at City games, some dicks spoil it for the rest.
Indeed. But, there are bellends everywhere. It's how you deal with the bellends that marks you out. Tbf we haven't shot indescriminately at them and peaceful protestors, or driven riot vehicles at them, so we're doing pretty well...

But we should always remember the bellends are not in our name. Same as at a City match.

It doesn't tell you much does it? It's few enough for none of them to have anything to do with bad cops.

I found this, which doesn't provide all the answers but shows that the UK has one of the lowest rates in the world - if not the best: https://assets.publishing.service.g...dy_A_review_of_the_international_evidence.pdf

The data include arrests of people who are injured at time of arrest and die on their way to hospital: "‘Deaths in or following police custody’ covers any death of a detainee from the point of arrest, through transportation to custody or hospital, and while they are still under arrest regardless of location.20 A suicide that occurs within police custody (by, for example, hanging or deliberate overdose) would be included within this ‘deaths in police custody’ collection."

And roughly half of them are people who have inflicted harm upon themselves as part of their criminal behaviour:

"In England and Wales deaths in police custody between 2004/05 and 2014/15 most commonly occurred after arrest for a range of drink and/or drug-related offences. These accounted for a fifth (19%) of all deaths in this period. The next most common reason for arrest preceding a death was speeding or driving offences, which accounted for 15 per cent of arrests preceding a death. Arrests relating to anti-social behaviour (such as breach of the peace) and violence related offences, each accounted for 12 per cent of arrests preceding deaths in police custody during this period. (Table 5). Overall, nearly half (45%) of arrests preceding deaths in police custody were for non-notifiable offences (for example, drunk and disorderly, breach of the peace, and driving offences)."

163 too many :( WMP have had some new cell blocks built recently all with CCTV in all cells I believe, so no excuse for neglect, they're supposed to search properly for harmful weapons and substances. Far better record than the US but a 0-0 draw is what everybody would want.

It’s not really biased on ethnicity though

Tony, black people are far more likely to be arrested: Arrests

upload_2020-6-7_10-45-41.png
With these stats, the death rate in custody being 8% is actually fewer than you'd expect.

So the question is not 'Who died in police custody' but rather 'why are black people more likely to be arrested?'

Reg, there's not enough information in that paper, but it states that 45% were ill upon arrest from drugs; drink or car accidents etc. and the data include death on the way to hospital. So we're down to circa 8 a year - surely small enough for that to just be a natural rate (heart attack etc.) and nothing to do with harm in a cell? Of course, if there is either self-harm or brutality from the police that must be addressed - but the stats suggest that it's very unlikely.

Exactly if you use the statistics game you are 25% more likely to die if you are white in police custody but it’s. meaningless numbers game and pointless

Exactly. Stats don't give you causality and are often used disingenuously by people wanting to mislead (such as the link Tony provided - which measures against population not arrests in a deliberate attempt to tell a false story). For example, we know that marriage is a terrible institution, as 100% of cases end in either death or divorce.

More black people are likely to be arrested as they are arrested disproportionately, more black people are likely to be stopped and searched because they’re stopped and searched disproportionately. That’s before you even get into that they are disproportionately dying in police custody. The word here is disproportionately. Look it up.

I think the word here is tautology.

Is it true that Black people make up 13% of the population of America but commit 44% of murders? That's crazy. I guess they're all made to do it though. Didn't this bloke also have a record as long as a roll of wallpaper and hold a store or something up at gunpoint with the gun pushed in a pregnant woman's belly? If he did then then fuck him and fuck you twats who are kneeling for him.

He was certainly a twat but that doesn't excuse what happened in any way or form. That was utterly wrong and I condemn it; just as I condemn the ANTIFA wankers and their violence.
