I think it's more a case of wouldn't say rather than couldn't say. He will have the numbers etc, but knows the answer will be embarrassing so trots out the usual lines about doing everything they can, unprecedented, follow the science, wait for the statisticians. The new line, to deflect from us having a huge number of deaths, was that it's not about the 40,000 deaths, it's that each one is terrible. Was a shocking interview. Hancock couldn't say how many people had been traced, couldn't say now many people had been tested and had no idea when the app will be ready.
Surely they are all softball questions that would have been expected.
Didn't do much better when asked how many black people were in the cabinet. Named Sunak and Patel! When he was pulled up on them being asian not black he went with Kwarteng who was removed from the cabinet in the last reshuffle. He bodged the same question on Ridge as well.
Hancock can't string sentences together, I think we're nearing the point (if we're not at it already) at which there's no point getting him, and others, on to answer questions, as they don't want to answer, and will mislead at every opportunity. We don't learn anything from these interviews.
