I can quite easily take a step back and not make it about politics and just make it about common sense.

If you look at individual instances maybe but 5his whole thing is highly political. It's just ridiculous to.pretend otherwise.

If we were in the same position.as New Zealand who do you think would be taking the credit?
Not the public or the scientists I can guarantee you

I am not pretending otherwise, that's why I can easily take a step back.

I can't do that with ccfc but can quite easily with this.

It's common sense, not "everybody stay safe and keep away from others unless we can blame the government for it".

At this moment in time I don't care who takes the credit, I want Corona to fuck off. Then the changes can begin in the after math from everything we have seen during it.

Yep and it’s so lovely there is none of that from the New Zealand prime minister

I’m no expert, but I’d say those figures suggest that they’ll start turning on Boris soon enough, and the pro Gove factions will go in for the kill.

Other than talking anecdotal nonsense you have displayed no expertise on politics or football since your entry on here

This poll is excellent for Johnson and Cummings. They have ridden a storm and lost only 4% points and that is also with a new Labour leader bounce. You seem to have no understanding at all on how politics actually operates. This has been a torrid time for Johnson and the Tory party and yet still across the whole country this poll puts them ahead. Also of course they will be far more interest in the marginal seats and the polling in these seats

You seem exited by this sort of thing. I would suggest you take a look at a person called Margaret Thatcher. She was a Prime Minister in the UK from 1979 through to beyond 1990. She scored popularity ratings at (60) at some points of her tenure and the party fared little better. I think her own popularity rating was around (11) averaged over the whole of her tenure.

So why on earth would you think this is an issue for a government with a massive majority and still a positive rating in the polls and 4 years left in office?

I hate to break this to you. I know this whole virus thing has been a great thrill for you and has bought you new found friends on social media but in 4 years time it will mean nothing. Absolutely nothing, The government will be measured on how its impacting every individual on an economic level. The irony here of course is that the big positive of this government - its economic response - could be its undoing in how it then attempts to deal with the financial payback. This will be the barometer.

Gove by the way cannot go in for the kill. Gove is a twerp who is favoured by the Murdoch press and very few others. I doubt he would even make a ballot of the members. He would be frozen out as were say Portillo and Heseltine in the past. What will probably happen is that Johnson will leave late in this term anyway as he is not in any shape or form a conviction politician. If Sunak retains his high ratings he will be the candidate of choice and will I think be a formidable opponent against a rather dull 60 plus year old white male with a title whose already endured 5 years in opposition and will just look - well - traditional and old.

Your "analysis" is absurd

read a big article on Sunak earlier today. He comes across as very adaptable, (not adaptable in a Johnson way,. changing opinions to further himself), but as someone who can see the potential uncertainty ahead, (corona,Brexit), and who can change course to suit.
One of the very few Tories that actually impresses me.

edit - actually, one of the few politicians who impresses me.

It may be 'excellent' for them but it's poor for the country and society as a whole. That people could fuck up so much and still garner enough support just because they're on the same side as them is a terrible indictment of where we stand. And I've no doubt it would be the same the other way round had Labour been in. If the same things had been done under a Labour govt do you think those same people would still be saying " it was the right thing to do"? No, they'd be demanding answers and calling the whole thing an absolute disaster. Stuff being criticised as idiocy by one side suddenly becomes a brilliant idea when adopted by the other.

It's showing that this is no longer a democracy based on rational thought and critical analysis of policy- it's a gang war bordering on cult. The actions are irrelvant - it's who's doing the actions.

He's still hard-right economically and follows the mantra of economy before everything. He'll be cuts/austerity to balance the books when this is over I guarantee it.

He'd be more on the ball than Johnson, but he'd in no way be progressive.

well I can only go on what I read and in no way would I take the word of a (tory) politician but it doesn't sound like hes going to go down a hard austerity route.
Personally, this time around I can stomach a certain amount of cuts given why the government has had to borrow and who has benefited, (easy to say when you're not at the sharp end I know).

Going through it and the misery it caused to undo the mess made by the banks was unforgivable.

It's why the US and UK are the embarrassments of the developed world when it comes to Covid and other things

I know it's a Sunday etc but to see deaths in double figures does feel like a small bright point. Although the thought of seeing less than a hundred people die in a day as a bright point is itself a bit depressing. It's still a lot of grief stricken family and friends who's lives have changed forever.

I'm really really not sure why he's impressed you. Let's wait and see how he behaves in the post covid world, the signs are not good.
The furlough scheme and self employed support were / are to stop absolute economic collapse.

He also jumped on the "save Cummings" bandwagon so hardly a model of integrity.

Couldn’t be more true, can’t see why most things can’t be open by the start of July now let’s hope they are

most things are going to be but that won't include pubs I'm fairly sure.
From speaking with owners of smaller music venues, which are essentially pubs, seems they've been told to be ready for July 4th. They've been told social distancing measures need to be in place but can't get any detail of what that actually means.

that would be good news.
I think a lot of small businesses will still struggle if they have to enforce social distancing but at least it gives them half a chance.

Would be very useful to know if hotels will be or if we're going to follow Northern Ireland's date for them

Some hotels are working to July 4th as well. Already seen a report that all the hotels in Cornwall that have started taking bookings are sold out.

Biggest issue seems to be lack of communication. The businesses aren't being given detail on what they can or can't do which makes it near impossible to plan ahead. Judging by what's happened with other businesses they will find out when its announced at the daily briefing with virtually no time to prepare.

I had them booked either side of going abroad, and have pretty late free cancellation. If they're not open we'll have to spend a small fortune on taxis to and from the airport due to the flight times.

I bet large businesses owned by Tory donors will know what’s coming.

This is what pisses me off more than anything and I think people are unaware of how much credibility it takes away from their arguments. For some, no matter what is done it’s wrong because it’s not their party doing it.

Funnily enough, come to think of it on here it’s the same people who cry about anyone criticizing a city team performance. Unable to be objective or think exercise any form of critical thinking.

“I hate it when people make it all about teams, it’s all those people on the other teams fault!”

Seems like the virus is dying out in lots of places, I think come August It will be like SARS and just disappear...... can’t see a second wave as it’s becoming weaker and weaker

Where have you seen this? I'd love this to be the case
New Zealand has no cases now, italy and spain are down lots.... it seems like it’s dying out I seen a report the other day from italy saying it could be starting to lose its potency

How to do it
NZ to lift restrictions as virus cases hit zero
imagine if we’d have had leadership this strong. Kids would be back at school full time, shops would be open, pubs would be open, the economy would be moving, peoples mental health would be healing but most importantly thousands of people wouldn’t have died needlessly.
Plus we’d be on the way to the Championship.
