A few observations :

My nans brother was in the IRA but they're cunts and so are their sympathisers some of whom definitely frequent here

The Conventrian is a massive c**t

Hill did well not to blow his top, that's possibly the worst piece of personal abuse I've seen directed for some time.

Racists are massive cunts

People who use snowflake or gammon are most likely cunts

It's not ok to keep referring to Grenners height as a slur. It's not the sames as being black, I get that, but it's also not a choice just like being ginger. However calling me a fat c**t is fair game as generally fatties have a choice but we can't stop stuffing our massive gobs.

Grenners knows fk all about football, but the constant ganging on him and suggesting he's racist is a lazy and uneducated opinion, he is right wing economically, as am I, but respectful when playing devil's advocate on an unpopular opinion, but not racist.

This is a football forum can't believe I keep getting dragged in to respond when I only come on to look at something completely different.

And finally, I don't know why but I love the word c**t. Yes I'm probably one and modt likely I think you are too.

Laters.

I know plenty about football and the height thing is slightly baffling tbh someone should stand next to a couple of we’ll known trust members - other than that as you were

Apologies if this has been addressed in the interim, but I’m not convinced they were doing nazi salutes. To me, looked like your standard football “throw your hand in the air when you’re holding a can in the other”. Doesn’t change they’re a bunch of dickheads but I think people may be looking for extremities.

Disclaimer: I’ve only seen a couple of twitter videos and none of the news so I may be wrong in my judgement.

Just spotted this. Loathe to defend any of the twats but I have to agree, at least in the main clip that was circulating. What people seemed to see as a salute was more this kind of thing, which people also do when giving it loads to the opposition or a group butchering a song at the end of karaoke

I’ve also always been very cautious when people conflate themselves and their so called experiences on a forum

On one occasion I was supposed to meet someone at a game as I had a ticket for them. Said person frequently described himself as some kind of huge Jack Reacher type. I then has a message at the game his “friend” would get it as he couldn’t meet me.

His friend would have won a Sid Lttle lookalike competition - I’ve always been suspicious

Sounds like you were just looking into a mirror.

Fecks sake.... thought I’d drop by before bed to catch up and relax me. Wish I hadn’t bothered.....glad people have been banned.

I’ve taken the BLM situ to cleanse my Facebook of people I don’t want to be associated with now they have been tempted into showing their true views.

In times like these it’s usually best to refer to the back catalogue of The Specials. In this instance ‘Racist Friend’ ticked the box

To be honest, I feel a bit guilty flagging that up when I was about 7 pages behind, only to see the most despicable racism in the interim. Unfortunately - signs or not - that is everything those morons stand for and it’s a stain on the country.

Oh fuck off Grenners

I'll stick a picture of Marty McG meeting the Queen up. Now there was someone who actually was in the IRA.
Oooooh, what a rebel you are.
But why would you do that ? Just to shock ?
You sound like you rather miss the bombings and "struggle" of the 1970s ,80s and 90s and want to simply rake it up on here.
You should grow up, get a hobby and get that chip off your shoulder.

Seen a video of a group of blm protestors stamping on somebody.

Then there's the video of the "football" pricks walking through a park kicking off with anybody. Bullying purple.

I wish they had just taken all the cunts who live Tommy Robinson and all the BLM people who want a scrap and let them go for it somewhere remote.

Also read about some blm protestors shaking hands with a war veteran and apologising for the damage to statues. You don't see much of that behaviour reported in the media though. The good aspect of people who actually do want peace.

Also the Blm protestor who was helping an injured "counter protestor". Why isn't this front page to show that not everybody is a prick and the majority do just want peace?

Social media is totally exploitative to try and encourage anger and outrage. It creates false stories - I don’t read any of it anymore

That is spot on and applies to both sides.
The time really has come for user verification, ideally using some kind of official ID and credit card. I would normally be opposed to that sort of thing but it is inevitable. The faceless abuse that goes on as well is disgusting.

Its all action and reaction. What happened yesterday was inevitable since the minute the Churchill statue was allowed to be defaced. If a certain minority of protesters last weekend had left it alone then perhaps what transpired yesterday wouldn't have been as reactive.
I think the police nationally are going to be under increasing pressure to stamp out law breaking on these demos on all sides otherwise we're sliding into more violence.

Politicians are often the same as well

David Lammy messaging on twitter seems deliberately antagonistic to whip up controversy

Yet when he’s interviewed he is nothing like the character he portrays. He gave a very balanced interview today on the Marr show and especially on this nonsense letter to Patel which he answered honestly

I think that is the nature of social media in general and arguably the same as this forum. I would imagine that 99% of those who engage on the political types threads would have a much more civilised and balanced debates in real life, and would get on well while doing so.

Can't stand David lammy at the best of times for the reasons you give but in fairness his interview this morning was , as you say, pretty good.

What a mess. George Floyd death triggers mass protest. Now it’s getting on to people tarring all us football fans with the same brush. It just gets lower and lower.

I’ve seen the picture of the black guy carrying the white guy on Twitter and the comments that follow seems to be by people with Union Jacks as part of their avatar claiming it was a set up or the white guy wasn’t with the BLM counter protest and other such things along those lines. Whatever’s going on in that picture there is unfortunately a swathe of white idiots who don’t seem to like a picture of a black man carrying an injured white man to safety.

"Can't stand David Lammy" - you see this is part of it, it is the sort of language that is over the top but is very much influenced by social media - this is not having a go at you, just pointing it out how it fuels a lot of what is happening now.

I think he has changed in response to the leadership switch. He was always seen as a moderate before the Corbyn experiment and I suspect he was playing to the shadow cabinet to get a look in. Now that Starmer has control he can revert to his natural position. Just a suspicion.

I can't stand him because of what he often says and the squealing way he says it.
I can't stand Miranda Hart because she's not funny yet seems to think she is .
I can't stand smoking in public and I can't stand rap music.
I'm not influenced by social media in saying this because I've been saying it long before the printing press was invented.
I'm sure lots of other people have been saying it for longer than social media came along.
Its called being a miserable bastard.

Another futile response... I guarantee that you won't understand the points I make here Tony and will revert with something that I consider a facile. This isn't for you but for everyone else.

I know that I'm pretty much a lone voice, however I despair of identity politics: where everyone's opinions and actions are seen through a lens of the colour of their skin. There are good and bad people* of all colours. We are individuals, all of us - and for me at least the colour of our skin is largely irrelevant when compared against our character. Martin Luther King saw it this way, but identity politics perverts what for me still makes sense:

'I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character'

And that, for me, includes people on the Left who seem to think that anyone of colour who isn't a socialist is somehow a traitor - and permits them to call them pejorative names. I wish we'd just dump identity politics as racist - because that's the way it seems to me: assigning assumptions about people's character based on their ethnicity.

*Further, I'm not even convinced that there are good and bad people. There are plenty of people that do good and bad things, but what is 'good' or 'bad' is just through the lens of our own values. Everyone justifies their own behaviours to themselves - they do not see themselves as bad. And with a little empathy and understanding of context, with most people one can understand why they say and do what they say and do. I'm not saying that I would do the same in their position but my life experience differs to theirs - as do my genes. I'd go as far as Stalin and Hitler in saying that I can to some degree empathise with their positions and have some understanding of why they did many things that I consider very bad. I often wonder how their lives may have been different if they had met a few different people in younger life and held rational conversations.

And some more opinions which are even more controversial:

- All this outrage from the rioters is contrived. They are joining a bandwagon and seizing an excuse to do what they wanted to do anyway.
- There is not even any evidence that the murder of George Floyd was racially motivated. It's not even clear statistically that Police murders in the States are biased towards PoC.
- BLM is a shill organisation for Marxism.
- Left Wing rioters are absolutely equivalent to Right Wing rioters. The only difference between them is the way that the press and certain trendy commentators are reporting on them.
- Left Wing rioting actually makes racism worse. It triggers a violent and opposite reaction from some people outraged by their actions. The way to make change to a society is slowly with discussion and empathy. I saw racism in the 70s and I see very little today. I'm not saying there is none, just that I don't see it within the people I know socially or at work - and many of the things that are claimed to be racist are juvenile misrepresentations of events and opinions.
- Erasing statues and TV programmes doesn't help anything - if anything it again promotes division.
- Identity politics is like apartheid: putting ethnicity into boxes works against harmony and the world in which people are judged by character rather than skin colour.

I guarantee that someone (Tony?) will claim that some of things I write here are ignorant and racist. So be it, I know my character and you do not.

I suspect that is the aim however and, for many people, that's how it is seen. In asserting minorities however, the aim is to pull up to that level and, until we get there, there has to be a movement to lift people up

I agree with that. I disagree with the approach of the BLM and identity politics movement. See:

The way to make change to a society is slowly with discussion and empathy.

Let's continue the upward trend from the 70s.

Not having a go, but and don’t intend to offend. But I assume you are white and being white allows you to not involve yourself in ‘identity politics’. You are able to be an individual and nothing more. That isn’t afforded to others.

Going a bit further, standard politics whether people like to admit it or not is identity politics. All of it is. It’s just not called that until someone who isn’t the norm has an opinion on it. “Ordinary people” etc.

Hope I’m getting across what I mean I’m struggling to word it correctly.

You will never offend me by making rational counter-arguments. :)

I completely accept the point that my skin colour; parents; education; the people I've met; genes... make a difference to my opinions on these questions. And I suspect we agree on the goal. I also understand how people can believe that identity politics is the best approach. I've simply made a case that from my position it seems counter-productive: it enrages other people and encourages them incidentally to take a more extreme position than they might otherwise take.
