Rose Rumour (12 Viewers)

I like Rose, but he's a centre half who has never played above L1. Some of the figures suggested on here are ridiculous. Our entire budget next season will rise from around £2m to £6m and that includes wages. If we got £2m-3m for a defender and can re-invest on more creative options then it's good business. I'd trust the current scouts and management team to find a suitable replacement.

In League 1 you can't turn down ~3m for players because you can go and nab a couple from lower leagues pay them L1 wages and you will probably be okay.

The problem now is that we can't be taking those sort of risks because players that play for us will want Championship wages. For that reason the price to sell him goes up. Massively because the risk of bringing in new players also goes up by a similar factor.

If they want him they will get him, but they will have to pay over the odds.

As for our 2m budget you are also off by some multiples here. Our entire budget in 2018/19 was 6.2m, and I imagine with the Maddison money it was a touch higher this season. We will be guaranteed an extra 5-6m in TV revenue next year, so we are looking at 11-12m as a starting point, plus the McCallum money, plus any additional sponsorship revenue that we can get as a Championship club, minus the lack of matchday, plus the increase in ifollow! So in closing, 2-3m is a joke for a Championship team - he could even break the club record, times have changed so much since we were last here!

FIVE PLAYERS WHO CAN REPLACE ROSE:
  1. J. Willis (Sunderland);
  2. R. McDonald (free agent);
  3. C. Stokes (potentially free agent, if turns down Forest Green's offer);
  4. T. Davies (Bristol Rovers);
  5. I. Evatt (Barrow) drawback is that he has retired and is now a manager, but was born in Coventry!
After that... I am drawing a blank! Could McNulty or Bright drop back and in fill in???

You're not even close. Look at the accounts, 6.2m so wide of the mark. It wasn't even that including all non-playing activity of stadium costs etc. I'm talking playing budget only and you're way off trust me.

Regarding efl zone. They claim to be in the know, they are really quick at posting 'news' but they are just finding it out from othes and tweeting it. They tweeted about our potential signing putting a deposit down on a house in Kenilworth, that came from some bloke on twitter first.

What was telling was during the league 1/2 ending meetings they claimed they had insiders in the room but the first news that broke was from the forest Green chairman who tweeted, people then asked them about it and they did a tweet basically resayin what he said. They didn't know shit.

Anyway as for Rose knowing our contract system we'll almost certainly have another year and I imagine we'll be offering new contracts quite soon. Could be a long summer of transfer speculation and a team as good as ours, people will look but I hope it's only speculation

This is helpful and makes sense. I guess it is still helpful to have an account that collates all the sources, but I shall be less naive in the future :)

If we were to sell Rose, I’d not take anything less than 10 million.

Whichever way we look at it, and whatever the result may be, it’s safe to say Michael Rose is now in the scouting pool for quite a few decent teams. Let’s hope he stays loyal, and that from the pool, Michael Rose his boat ashore.

Anyone know if that taxi was ever ordered for Robins, I might need to take it...

£10m for a defender who has never played Champ level yet and in the current climate? Wow, just wow.

Say we HAVE to sell a player this summer for budget reasons...Who would you rather it be: Michael Rose or Fankaty Dabo? Both would hypothetically go for £2-3m.

In fairness, it’s an absolute credit to the all involved in transfers at the club, and the lads themselves, that teams as big as Leeds are sniffing around our players while looking to take onwards to the Premiership.

2 years ago, Rose was a Scottish 2nd/3rd division player who nobody had heard of and was probably earning a factory wage. Cov bought him in, one year with us and now he’s looking at potentially Premiership football and tens of thousands a week in earnings. If nothing else, this is/could be life changing for him on a personal level

I think people are a little bit confused when they talk about Championship prices. They have increased for the top level players who prove they are better than that level such as Maupay, Maddison and Eze this summer. They haven’t increased by much for a newly promoted club who doesn’t have a ground of their own

Ok. £9 million then! Take it or leave it.

Rose all day. Dabo brings something special to our game, his movement, vision and distribution along with his dedication to the cause are extremely difficult to come by for a club like us and largely irreplaceable on our budget. Rose is a fantastic defender, who works well in the system with the others, but if you look at his style of play and what he brings, he’s a talented bread and butter CB. It wouldn’t be too difficult to find A. N. Other centre back to replace him, if not upgrade from him, who brings much the same to the table for a reasonable cost.

That being said, I’d be sad to see either leave

Rose is probably on a tiny salary after his move from Scotland. If there is anything in this at all, it's probably just an agent trying to get him a better contract.

Another handbag for Joy. All Sisu do is take money from the club blah blah blah..........:woot:
Two sides to this, if we need the money and it helps us compete in a higher league then he has to be sold. If we keep him he will help us plus if he has a good season his value will increase. Makes a nice change our players getting interest even if its just paper talk. In Robins we trust.:emoji_prince: Might free up some cash for O Hares wages.

Said it all along this season-Rose completely and utterly underrated.

Needs to stay with us and City need to start saying ‘No’.

Although every club ,if they smart, sell at a price that they’d never go for in the future.

So yes 10m but no less than 6m.

I will be amazed if Robins hasn't identified a centre back he wants on a free or similar. He must have realised months ago that we could very well go up with the football we've been playing and performances all round. He knew several of our players would attract bids and if he thinks he can make a turn on it he will. He'll have a plan for Dabo too - it's just the way we seem to operate now.

Where did I say our playing budget was 6.2m. I said that was our entire budget (okay I didn't say turnover, my apologies, but I was clearly not referring to the playing budget).

The playing budget is the lions share of the 6.2m (if you are also including things like signing on fees etc). The cap in L1 is 60% as a point of reference so approaching 4m if you consider that you can also spend transfer fees how you like.

In the championship the playing budget is going to need to approach 10m just to be on a par with the lowest in the league.

You'd hope so, but I have to admit I didn't Rose playing in the premier league straight from league one. It may have caught the staff, like ourselves, out of surprise.

Rose clearly has quality but £10m for a 24 year old, who I believe has 1 year left on his contract and has never played above L1??

I genuinely don't know whether to laugh or cry at the lack of basic common sense on this forum sometimes.

To be fair, I don't think people are saying he is worth that, but that we want to get as much money as possible if we are going to sell one of our best centre backs. More about strategy then about genuine value.

I imagine the club will have a 1 year option, given that has been Robins MO with every other signing we have made since he came back. It gives us leverage when it comes to discussing extending given that we can just exercise the clause regardless.

I'm sure many players are in talks to improve their deals right now...

Exactly who puts in an offer - an existing Premiership or Championship side or even Inter Milan has no bearing on it. If he's been playing well there's a possibility that an offer will come in and Robins will hopefully/probably have a replacement ready. The Premiership connection only strengthens the case to sell and replace, as presumably the fee could be higher than we'd anticipated.
