Council funding for Ricoh Refurb (4 Viewers)

Not advocating whacking tourists but yellow vest pickets and burning tires wouldn’t go amiss.

In all seriousness though I really hope we move on and build a ground. Hate the sight of the Ricoh now

Same here mate, the noises seem so much different than before over that and what better than to put two fingers up at wasps and CCC by building our own one and letting them wallow in the ricoh

Boycott and vote them out by all means but please for the love of all fuck let's not get into disruption as that just plays into the hands of the people who don't want us there as they will use it as an excuse as to why we shouldn't be at the Ricoh.

You can see the headlines now all about thuggish Coventry city fans disrupting things, we are starting to get the message out about the council and wasps so we just need to be patient and let it play out unfortunately

Would be a shame for the Commonwealth games to be a disaster for Wasps and CCC wouldn't it?

Nobody should be "thuggish", obviously.

Will they change the seats to yellow and black with the tax payers money?

I hope they do change the seats and show their true intention to the football club. The irony of all this is when history judges our city during these times and sees we were the city of sport the council were hell bent on breaking the club not because we did anything to them, it's only because Lucas has a gripe with our owners. And she wishes to be taken seriously in politics.

City of Culture too.

Fuck them.

Absolutely but needs to be done in the right way and not in anyway to show us as the bad guys or aggressors as that just plays into the narrative we have been trying to get away from for years

A kickabout on the A444 just before an event at the Ricoh in city shirts?

Yep it’s like our church where there is a responsibility for the building maintenance and the pcc for the ongoing running of the church. If that were so I’d expect some investment from wasps as well as ccc. Huge two fingers to Ccfc though
It used to work the other way round aty dad's British Legion Club

Any improvements they funded and made , were potentially at risk of being undone.bu the Parent org .
They had the ability to sell from under the them .
Like this.

Does it though? The fan base itself has been incredibly passive if not outright supportive of anyone and everyone but SISU for years now. No-one likes being taken for a fool and that's exactly how the CCC have been treating fans of the football club. Shrugging our shoulders and telling them we're voting them out won't bother them in the slightest. What % of the fans, who have actually realised what they're up to, live in Coventry and what % of the voting population is that? I bet it's so small they won't even blink.

But then again that will give the telegraph and cwr the opportunity to paint the club and it's fans as the bad guys and how we are a disgrace to the city etc which will then again turn the general public against us.... We are just starting to get to a point where the truth is coming out and people are starting to realise the truth of what has happened, why risk that to disrupt some shitty judo they no-one actually gives a fuck about with action that will obviously cause more harm than good. We need to play the long game here no matter how much it sucks

It’s comical. So blatant. £3.8m would build a new exhibition hall for Christ’s sake. Doesn’t really come into it that CCC are the freeholder, it’s on a long-term leasehold and therefore ACL are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep. Does ACL pay any ground rent to CCC? If so, we need to know the terms of this agreement. Providing a grant of this size is ridiculous.

Take away the history and the anti SISU/CCC/Wasps stuff, and the simple question to the council is still valid; how are the benefits to the local economy of investing this much in the Ricoh for a Judo/Wrestling event in anyway comparable to supporting the Championship football team, established in Coventry?

Remember when people threw pigs on the pitch because SISU were the devil?*

*by no means saying SISU are perfect, but surely actions like this highlight the duplicity of CCC.

If Wasps asked for it, they surely would have had to present a business case to show how it would benefit Coventry?

They all need to be embarrassed and shown up.
They are being embarrassed.
I'm certainly embarrassed for their decision making.
They are doing their utmost to do as little as possible for CCFC.
Imagine as a Councillor, you have a sure fire way that requires very little effort to pump extra money, potentially millions, into your local economy. You'd do it, wouldn't you?
In the meantime, you'd put a smile on the face of a good portion of your voter base.
All CCC had to say was, we will look favourably on this grant if you can get a deal with CCFC over the line.
That is if they want CCFC playing in Cov.

It is obvious they don't and are trying to push CCFC to the wall in the hope that SISU sell up.

I reckon, the only way SISU will sell up will be with a sustainable business model that pushes their whole project into the black.
CCC would be better off supporting that in order to rid them of SISU over damaging the Coventry City (Council and Football Club) and Wasps brands beyond repair.

Who else reckons CCC have bought a tonne of Wasps Bonds?

I’ve tried my best to not really get sucked into the whole SISU-CCC-Wasps thing because it feels like an endless time sink, but has it been previously speculated that members of CCC are on the take from Wasps/ACL? Because this feels like exactly the kind of payoff you’d expect from a corrupt relationship between public servants and a dodgy company.

Because they can get away with doing it. How many times do you see pricks like this go before the "ethics committee" and nothing happens other than. "They broke the rules but did nothing wrong, we will change the rules now".

Putting up or shutting up with the new stadium I think. As painful as it is to see what the council and wasps have done there is really nothing else we can do other than try and encourage people to go to brum and support the team.

The news today has basically shown that CCC won't let wasps go to the wall any time soon so we might as well leave them to it and build the new stadium whilst making sure everyone knows what their council did to the football club.

It appears that the public view is starting to change so we can't do anything to affect that by some people trying to play football factory as that just fucks up all the hard work of the last view years

So it is government funding via CCC. I understand the use of the stadium for an event such as the commonwealth games, no problem with that. Effectively Wasps lease of 250 years makes it theirs? CCC own the freehold? So who does own it? CCC with Wasps as tenants all be it for 250 years? I wonder if Wasps will share F&B, car parking and profits with CCC. Is that not what CCFC want, a fair crack of the whip. I will be watching this very closely to see the benifits to the City of Coventry that this venture between CCC and Wasps brings. Wasps are a private sporting venture just as CCFC are, i cant see how they can be supported by government (tax payers) money. It is state aid to a private company via the back door. unless ofcourse CCC show and prove the extra income to them and the council tax payers of Coventry. We rally need to vote this lot out next time we get chance.

my thoughts too. it is state aid!
Pretty sure state aid laws are suspended currently due to Covid19.
.....an obvious way for CCC to throw money at their pet project, in public view, also to rub our faces in it....
Don't be surprised if there is more chucked their way in some way, shape or form.
Again, 3.8 mil is a hell of a lot for that refurb.....
....here's 1.5 mil for the stairs etc, and another couple to make up for our deal to keep ccfc away for a bit..

Wasps would have had to present a business case for it.

Surely it would have had to be voted on?
