And anyway he still posts quite a lot about CCFC, even took a match in about a year ago or so - Is he still involved in the running of the football club? Not listed as a director but strange someone with absolutely no connection to the club or City would take such an interest after leaving

i was briefly chatting to him a year or so ago . While he is no longer on the board or in the decision making, in his words "He still helps out where he can" what ever that means - and he does still have an investment

He did also believe that a return to the Ricoh was likely - alas that didnt happen

I just wonder if Jimmy Hill had publicised every idea he ever had if G wouldn’t be on here calling him a clown too. That’s innovation for you, you brainstorm and most ideas get shot down.

Football is in desperate need of innovation when you look at how well commercialised other entertainment is. We’re still stuck on the model of the 1960s.

I don't disagree. When you see things like Fan Boost happening in Formula E however, you have to say he wasn't far away from where the winds are blowing.

Agreed. Slightly different importance placed on a football manager though compared to a motorsport team manager. There's less scrutiny of a Clare Williams for example than a Mark Robins. (and I know Clare Williams is no longer team principle and Williams is an F1 team not FE but you get my drift).

As much as Hill is lauded for his achievements the first time round, the second time you could argue that he stopped the club prospering to become a regular top half team in the top flight with his stupid schemes (US football, the Connexion, the all seater stadium)

Even JH made some big mistakes

Pissing millions up the wall in USA
All seater stadiums without a roof
Banning his own team from passing back (even though it was ok for the opposition)
Announcing to players in pre match warm up, that their transfer request had been rejected

so amongst the excellent things, there used to be some vile chants from our own supporters in the early 80s against him

Letting just about the entiore first team's contracts run out at the same time was pretty crazy, too.

No he wasn't the league was already established and he decided to plunder the clubs assets on a half arsed scheme which as with pretty much everything else he did as Chairman end up going badly wrong. He never actually seemed that interested in the club then but to use it is a experiment for his madcap ideas
