Somehow stumbled across his Instagram (Wasn’t he the person who was behind that ridiculous ‘Text Your Subs’ idea

And anyway he still posts quite a lot about CCFC, even took a match in about a year ago or so - Is he still involved in the running of the football club? Not listed as a director but strange someone with absolutely no connection to the club or City would take such an interest after leaving

The first one was Igwe or whatever his name was.

I like Brody, he misfires a bit but he’s innovative and tried to evolve the commercial side of the game which there isn’t anything like enough of these days.
Ahh yes of course. I’ll take it back then. I’m sure there was another Odd Brody idea

i was briefly chatting to him a year or so ago . While he is no longer on the board or in the decision making, in his words "He still helps out where he can" what ever that means - and he does still have an investment

He did also believe that a return to the Ricoh was likely - alas that didnt happen

The text a sub thing was innovative giving legs to audience participation, Which is now prevalent across media.
It would certainly have given vent to matchread emotions displayed on here .
Probably the wrong vehicle to expand it into.

Top googling G. Is that all that came up...trustee of the National Harp Orchestra?!

Don't worry, I had a googles myself. Seems very charitable at the moment.

Have you seen his Wiki page (which I know can be edited by the man himself)? Quite positive write ups about his time at Saints and Cov.

Yeah fair comments about the innovation but it being the wrong direction with which to take it.

It would just totally undermine the manager and start a path to rendering them worthless.

I just wonder if Jimmy Hill had publicised every idea he ever had if G wouldn’t be on here calling him a clown too. That’s innovation for you, you brainstorm and most ideas get shot down.

Football is in desperate need of innovation when you look at how well commercialised other entertainment is. We’re still stuck on the model of the 1960s.

I don't disagree. When you see things like Fan Boost happening in Formula E however, you have to say he wasn't far away from where the winds are blowing.

ANDY THORN has explained Ken Dulieu's decision to sit on the Coventry City bench - and urged the Sky Blues' new football supremo to bring in loan players in January.
Ex-boardroom chief Dulieu’s bizarre decision to join his backroom staff in the dugout against in-form Hull City was greeted with astonishment from fans on Saturday.
But the City boss explained: “Now he’s in his new role as Head of Football Operations, he wanted to come on to the bench and see it from there.”

tbf his time as chairman was pretty disastrous.

Fair, though equally he is credited with creating the modern game and many would like to see a return of things like the Sky Blue Express (OK maybe just me).

Point stands that you need ideas, even if 99% of them get shot down. Football chairmen are ridiculously conservative for a bunch of people basically throwing money down a black hole.

Jimmy Hill once said "'gimmick' is a word that people use to describe an idea they wish they had thought of themselves"

He was a real innovator.....and as you rightly say, if you don't float any ideas, then nothing changes.

I'm not saying all of his ideas were good ones, but I still believe he has had a greater impact on the modern game than anyone else in history.

All-seaters, 3 points for a win, studio pundits, pre-match entertainment, comprehensive football programmes, shirt sponsorship......

Bloke was a true visionary.......and a fucking legend. I was so proud to shake his hand at the final game at HR. Love you Jimmy.

Agreed. Slightly different importance placed on a football manager though compared to a motorsport team manager. There's less scrutiny of a Clare Williams for example than a Mark Robins. (and I know Clare Williams is no longer team principle and Williams is an F1 team not FE but you get my drift).

I'm reading the book about the 80/81 season by Steve Phelps at the minute. As much as Hill is lauded for his achievements the first time round, the second time you could argue that he stopped the club prospering to become a regular top half team in the top flight with his stupid schemes (US football, the Connexion, the all seater stadium)

Even JH made some big mistakes

Pissing millions up the wall in USA
All seater stadiums without a roof
Banning his own team from passing back (even though it was ok for the opposition)
Announcing to players in pre match warm up, that their transfer request had been rejected

so amongst the excellent things, there used to be some vile chants from our own supporters in the early 80s against him

To be fair, Dave Boddy was of the same opinion when we met earlier in the year. I think it's still a high priority so never say never.

In fairness, he was probably years ahead of his time with the US football thing.

Letting just about the entiore first team's contracts run out at the same time was pretty crazy, too.

He was a disaster as Chairman and the protests against him make the Sisu out stuff look like a teddy bears picnic

No he wasn't the league was already established and he decided to plunder the clubs assets on a half arsed scheme which as with pretty much everything else he did as Chairman end up going badly wrong. He never actually seemed that interested in the club then but to use it is a experiment for his madcap ideas
