I stopped reading all the crap on VAR but in my head it's really simple - only over rule or intervene the referee on the pitch if there's been a really clear or obvious error.

They have a 30/45 second limit to revisit/replay or whatever they want and they make the call. If they can't make it in that time then it wasn't clear and obvious was it.

All this fucking about with dots and lines and was his arsehole offside is stupid - if you have to get that shit out then again, its not clear and obvious.

With offsides - the referee calls it as he calls it giving attackers the benefit of the doubt - if they are clearly more than x distance offside then it is overruled.

I dunno if the above would work but feel like they can just be pragmatic about stuff can't they rather than just suck the life out of the game.

Media would flip and say why bother with var if you’re not going to use it lol

That's the thing though, some refs were always decent. Obviously people make mistakes but when people just act like dicks and give it attitude as if they can never be wrong and nobody can ask them anything thats when theres issues.

There are also straight up cheats and people who are far too unfit.

I agree but when you have young people doing it I think there should be more protection for them.

Yep I had a dad in an under 12 game!!!!!!! Storm on to the pitch after a foul (that I’d given) to say I should be protecting his son. It was an under 12 game, I was about 17 and he called me a cxxt, wanker, bastard and many other things. I was very composed, checked the kid was ok, asked him to leave the pitch, he wouldn’t, asked the manager to remove him from the pitch, he wouldn’t. I threatened to abandon the game. He eventually left. I finished the game, an off duty police office came and gave me his contact details as a witness to the verbal abuse. Heard nothing more from the fa or the police. I cycled everywhere at that point. I sobbed all the way home.

What kind of dad does that over a bloody game.

Was it you Grendel? Lol

My dad came to a lot of my games and called out the bullshit from the sidelines. Pretended to be a random spectator!

Poor. I can assure you that I’m not Hitler in a black uniform. Have you thought that many referees do it (like myself) just because they like football?
I love football and played for many years...I never got booked or sent off and played a half decent level, in all that time there was 1 decent ref who reffed with common sense but there were plenty of haven't got a fucking clue little hitlers... I even had 1 ref who called me offside from a goal kick...I did tell him about it and to be fair to him he came to me after the game ...YEP AFTER the game and told me I was correct...and he was qualified.........hmmmmmm

There was also a ref called Geoff Ankers...many on here will probably know him ... I went out onto the pitch pre match kick about out he comes I said hello to him ( see I can be polite) he said I am reporting your club... I said what for he said there isn't any corner flags...I asked him if he got a kick from being a jerk and told him that someone was bringing them out and would be in place before kick off.... He also had a lift by one of the players to a local village and sent that player off so the player told him to walk back home...thats the best story lol

Indeed. If you find yourself screaming and swearing at a teenager on a football pitch it’s perhaps time for some introspection

Well in that case I think everyone needs a long hard look at themselves cos I'm sure everyone on here will have done so at a teenager at some point. I have. So they may have been in a Cov/Eng shirt at the time but that's beside the point.

Maybe they do. Though they are at least better compensated for their efforts than those on the park on a Sunday morning, not that either is right.

Exactly. The thing I’ve found is that most match threads are littered with what the ref has or hasn’t done. That’s just us. It’s going to be like that for every team I’d imagine. If one of the main talking points for every team is the officiating, then they’re not doing their job correctly. I’d be happy with a couple of decisions that look dodgy, but it seems to be every few minutes.
To be fair its not exactly helped by the wankers who rule the game ie FIFA and UEFA, they need to take a long hard fucking look at themselves at allowing so many cheats to get away scot free, diving conning the refs and their very own professional 'comrades' ... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH they should get seriously strict and ban any player found feigning injury diving etc by sending them off and a 4 game ban for the first offence if they do it again a 10 game ban...it would stop the cheating bastards overnight ...fuck VAR unless they act with it and do something to help the game

Would very much appreciate dissent being given yellows much more often

Villa again.
Mike Dean ,shocking
Lost control of the match a bit. Pen was definitely a pen, can’t remember Douglas Luiz’s first yellow but his 2nd was correct but Moutinho’s second yellow was unlucky (his first was a definite though). Weird match. First 30-35 mins was boring as hell, Wolves on top after that and got a bit feisty.

Who’s old enough to remember Roger Kirkpatrick.?The only referee the fans loved.
We even had him come for a few testimonial games. I remember the ball rolling towards him and he had a shot at goal.

Yeah a referee with a personality.

Well I’m not one to criticise referees as we all know-but Mr Davies didn’t have a very good game today I’m afraid.

Haven’t seen it again yet-looked a tight one. But as we all know the assistant doesn’t get that benefit.

Come in Adge give us a detailed report on the other thread. I’m hoping there’s some interest to have one after each game. (Analysis not ref bashing)

I’ll see what I can do! Trouble is nobody will really be balanced at all and will only see things through Sky Blue tinted glasses.
I think it was Keith Stroud who was in charge for the Norwich game and he had a decent game-the only thing we remember though from that game is the dodgy pen he gave against us.
