Furlough extended again

At least it's an early decision, this time.

Tell you what, there's a job come up I fancy. The downside is that in normal times it'd require me to go in to an office 150 miles away, which they'd expect... post-pandemic.

The way it's going, part of me wonders if I should take my chances on being able to work from home for a year, before finding another job!

A little story for you. My parents boiler packed up in October. Local gas company who they have their service plan with turned up. Engineers masked and gloved up. Fixed the boiler and sanitised everything they'd touched. That's how things can be done and be as safe as is possible.

Why are you asking me about punishment? If you want to see your family that's your choice. Nobody is going to fine you, you'd be adhering to the Christmas guidelines. My choice is to not see mine.

The research done on transmission shows that it is predominantly through droplets and aerosols, surface transmission is much less of an issue. Hence we did not see much of a spike over the summer despite huge numbers gathering outdoors.

I'm under pressure as we have the son in law , his wife and granddaughter coming on boxing day from dublin. Their idea of social distancing is to space out a little more while doing the oops upside your head rowing boat dance thing....i shit you not !!! fortunately my lad lives in the same road and he is as good as gold with his social distancing.....think ill decamp to his his then.

It’s denying people treatment for serious illness for fear of catching the great asymptomatic virus. Yes I’m being emotional with it I just see and hear the stories and find it baffling .

Sad though it is, treatment for illness always has to weigh up capacity and cost, rather than just treating everything, even outside of a pandemic.

Its not irrational there are several areas of society where judgements are made regarding deaths and cost benefit analysis is used to see if the cost is worth actually paying. This is on a much bigger scale of course but the argument remains the same

The problem is that covid cuts across absolutely everything, it isn't self contained. You can't just say "we'll let the virus run wild as it kills mostly elderly" because the demand on hospitals from patients elderly or not would completely overwhelm the NHS and lead to all sorts of other treatment being cancelled.

Yep it’s why they do two tests. Also it doesn’t give many false positives just a high false negatives

That really would be a Pandora’s box wouldnt it? Don’t get me wrong I’d hate to be making the decisions and it really is a shit storm across Europe. However it does seem other governments see the facts and react where as we take a good look at them, smell them, turn them over and over and then eventually when left without a choice, we make a decision

The local decision in Coventry according to DHSC is based on a perceived increase in cases which is at best very small. The cases in coventry according to them are below the national average and hospital and icu usage is also below the national average.

Tbh though the national average has gone up by a third in a week or two and is far too high, so being below it isn't exactly fantastic. However, the rules should be applied consistently.

Anything over 1 in 10000 isn’t good and has been treated as a problem all along
