This is an interesting thread on compliance with the regulations. Probably isn't going to calm you down much reading it

If old people / people at high risk want to go to the shops and socialise then they should sign a disclaimer.

New variant this, new variant that.

It's taking the fucking piss now. Going to be locked down forever while some of the oaps we are meant to be protecting are living the same normal life.

I feel that way a lot at the moment. I wouldn’t make vaccination optional, people should be able to choose how it’s received but not whether to decline it

The latest one is Brazil isn’t it. Guess I won’t be able to book that Holiday Village Rio de Janiero on Tui anymore.

Carl Heneghan is a weird case. An example in some one so highly thought of professionally can then destroy their reputation by clinging on to an obviously flawed idea instead of just admitting you have changed your mind in the face of new evidence.

I can't help but think he and others are on a payroll. That said, he's 'only' a GP isn't he? His Centre for Evidence Based Medicine looks to be a bit of a joke, he's ignored copious evidence only selecting information that fits his narrative.

Edit - he is an epidemiologist according to wiki.

If they don't have it they give up their right to a bed if they need it.

Let's face it, statistics say that the vast majority won't even be hospitalised if they get covid. How about the at risk people of being hit hard by it don't leave their fucking house, don't have people round etc then it's pretty much impossible for them to get it anyway.

Good news and only right in my opinion

Tens of thousands of small businesses are set to receive insurance payouts covering losses in the first national lockdown, following a court ruling.

The Supreme Court found in favour of small firms receiving payments from business interruption insurance policies.

For some, it could provide the lifeline allowing them to trade beyond the coronavirus crisis.

The ruling could cost the insurance sector hundreds of millions of pounds.

In the lockdown of last spring, many small businesses made claims through these insurance policies for loss of earnings when they had to close.

But many insurers refused, arguing only the most specialist policies had cover for such unprecedented restrictions.

It was agreed that a selection of policy wordings be tested in court, setting the parameters for a valid claim.

The Supreme Court dismissed the insurers' appeals.

Yep that’s the barrington declaration argument. Problem is when they do they might get it

Let them get it then.

The massive majority of the country is locked down to protect the small minority of people who would be hospitalised by COVID. The strictest lockdown measures should have been on them all along.

4.46 million people are waiting for routine appointments and operations because we are having to deal with Covid in hospital. I understand the frustration and I think those that signed the barrington declaration agree with you and lost didn’t want to see herd immunity or lots of death just shielding of the vulnerable and keeping the economy open. I still think they are you are wrong but I understand it more

It's alright going on about the deadly virus killing everybody but how many are just because everything else is going unnoticed while everything is covid?

Get everything covid in those nightingale hospitals, have normal hospitals back to as normal as possible.

Let people go about their life as normal as possible.

A hospital without staff is just a building. The NHS was already understaffed and its even worse with self isolation now.

I get you’re frustrated but this really is the only way until we’ve got herd immunity. Giving up now could lead to more mutations and an ineffective vaccine and this crap forever.

So if there was billions to build them, staff them too.

You can't just pluck trained medical staff out of thin air though.
Even in hospitals they are using non ICU specialist nurses because there aren't enough specialist nurses to go round and they're having to treat 3 patients per nurse when it's usually one on one.

The underfunding chickens are coming home to roost unfortunately.

I do think those for whom the bulk of society is making considerable sacrifices and adjustments should reconsider just going on jollies in the park and on the bus. Whenever I was going to school it was full of pensioners and it was hard not to be annoyed at least a bit.

You obviously have no understanding of the type of care somebody with covid or any other respiratory illness might need. The Nightingales are not built for it.

There is “significant evidence” of coronavirus transmission in supermarkets, Wales' first minister has said.

Mark Drakeford announced stricter rules for shops at a press conference in Cardiff and said Wales' Test, Trace and Protect scheme showed there was “no doubt at all” that transmission was taking place in stores.

He added that while "the majority of supermarkets have worked very hard" to make their shops "as safe as possible", the visible signs of protection "have been reduced" compared to last spring.

Drakeford said it was the "responsibility of owners and managers" to make sure stricter measures were followed.

He also said the current restrictions in Wales would be reviewed on 29 January, adding that if things "continue to head in the right direction" ministers would consider whether "to begin the process of lessening the current level of restrictions".

There may be "marginal easements" to coronavirus rules in Wales if rates continue to fall, he said.

Don’t see how Hancock and johnson can claim the measure are proportionate and the only problem is people not following them. In fact we all know it’s a crock of shit

This is what happens when you cut nursing bursaries and the things that go with it. People literally CANNOT AFFORD to train to become a nurse.

We've been fucking up nursing recruitment for years from what I can tell. Saw something saying that Trusts had to show tight financial control at some point and the easiest way to do that was to just cut the nurse training places and just hire bank staff/immigrants. So the places dried up.

Now of course we've just told all those immigrant nurses to fuck off home.

Let them get it then.

The massive majority of the country is locked down to protect the small minority of people who would be hospitalised by COVID. The strictest lockdown measures should have been on them all along.

You've been pushing this argument for ages and it's nonsense. We aren't locking down 'to protect the old people' we're locking down to ensure we have a health service at all and to protect the economy (people don't go out when there's a killer virus about lockdown or not - you want people to start spending/working you've got to make them feel safe by reducing the virus). And because if we let the virus run rampant it'll make vaccination and treatment harder.
