I agree.

Now, my parents have just come back from Stoneliehg. Said it was pretty empty, and well organised.

My Mum however, slightly excitable, is already talking about having me over for a cup of tea, and reducing distances in the future, and not wearing masks. She's not talking instantly (they communicated at the centre that this is all a bad idea!) but she's missing that actually, she could become a risk to me and Mrs Wisdom! It's not surprising really as she's never really grasped that I won't go in the house, not because I think she's a threat, but because I might be a risk to her.

Despite this, they've complied with just about everything, barely been out but... if she's talking this way, she won't be alone.

And then public opinion makes us open up before we're ready.

Fuckssake Boris, listen to the medical advisors on this, don't fall under your populist tendencies just when we need to be strong for the home run...

Exactly. One jab confers little protection for the first few weeks.

It’ll just be a new contract situation. One company is already talking about making it a requirement for new staff to have the vaccine.
The problem is that beggars can't be choosers and these companies struggle to recruit as it is.

The big picture is that we as a nation need to get a grip on social care and recognise its value and pay people accordingly. It is only going to get worse.

Yeah that too. Low income both BAME and white British have real anti-vax issues. And both large parts of care work workforce. Same in all low paid healthcare jobs from what I can tell.

The missus is always coming home with stories of the mental rumours she hears at UHCW from non-clinical staff.

What sort of rumours?

“Vaccine doesn’t work”

“The vaccine changes your DNA”

“The vaccine makes you ill”

“wearing masks gives you pneumonia”

“COVID isn’t real, it’s just flu”

“they’re putting COVID on death certificates even when it’s not”

Standard stuff.

As a species we've not really moved on that much from when we used to dunk witches have we?

At least in this country we haven't got a serving MP who thinks a giant Jewish laser starts wild fires and Muslim immigration is a Jewish plot to replace white people but it's probably only a matter of time.

Nah, we just take Toby Young and Julia Hartley-Brewer seriously.

Johnson’s Brexit bollocks was pretty close.

Is the countries morale at an all time low? I have no idea what will cause restrictions to start being lifted. Read the news and all you see is mixed messages “start being lifted in March” “end of the year” “never be completely back to normal”

The one I heard last week and apparently widely believed in BAME communities is that all the vaccines have only been tested on white people therefore there’s no evidence that it’s safe for the BAME community and as a form of white privilege they’re just going to roll it out in BAME communities to save on the development costs in making sure it’s safe for people of BAME background.

It is of course complete nonsense on the same level that Bill Gates puts a microchip in it but decades of being treated as worthless citizens makes an environment in a community where shit like this is easy to believe.

Looks like the door to door knocking is not just because of the 'South African strain', it looks like there is a further mutation which is antibody resistant to differing extents. Great. Not sure whether severity of illness is the same.

My mum's had her first jab which is a big relief, she was getting a little nervy near the time about not knowing what's in it but I pointed out that she doesn't grow her own food. Of course then everyone around me stood and applauded as if Michael Jordan had just hit a sweet dunk to save SpaceJam

They have published some studies showing a difference with one jab haven't they?

Some but there's also studies from there that may link to lower than expected efficiency data is too small to really tell so it's best to just remember they are vaccinating as per the Biontech guidelines and the most of their efficiency figures are from fully vaccinated people.

I think the first jabs also coincided with the introduction of a new lock down so that may be a factor in any reductions.
