Regarding Brandon Mason. He had a decent spell in the team in league one. We changed formation and he was the player that missed out. He come back pre-season where the professional coaches deemed that he is not good enough for the championship.
Now call me a fool but the professional coaches watch every player closely in every training session. They then decide if a player either is up to the standard or can potentially reach the necessary standard.
It’s clear that in their professional opinion Mason isn’t at the required level.

Baka was 4th choice striker in a position where we might start with two strikers depending on formation. We let Mason go when we secured both McCallum and Giles meaning he wouldn’t even get on the bench. Then when Giles was recalled in January we signed a left back who is obviously rated more highly than Mason is.

At the time he was loaned out we were consistently playing wing-backs, which wasn't his strength, and we had 2 loaned in. It made sense for him to get game time elsewhere. However as we have seen we sometimes revert back to playing with a back 4 and McCallum has looked vulnerable. Mason was very good in league 1 and started preseason, albeit used rarely, looking sharp. Reid was signed mainly for development and was injured, so it seemed sensible to bring Mason back to cover McCallum and to start if playing a back 4. I agree the staff clearly don't seem to want him back but I don't think they would rate his ability less than an inexperienced injured newcomer (for the remainder of the season at least).

He isn't starting for St Mirren as they too are playing with wing backs now, I think Robins wants versatility over anything else.

Stick with wing backs and play Shippers there. Left footed, can get crosses in, and the role will force him to hold position.

Who we gonna play there in the 2nd half when Shipley is blowing out his arse?
I agree. I cannot see how he will have anywhere near the energy for the role, but maybe it will be the making of him. He certainly should be able to deliver balls into the box if given the time to do so.

Thought he may have been playing that role for U23s today if he was in the plans for Norwich but he was in midfield.
