Im not saying the gov have not totally cocked this up. What I'm saying if you don't test the same you dont get the same results.

We test everyone in hospital multiple times. others don't do any testing in hospitals or in general. So cause of death is put down as different things.


Not closing the boarders last Feb/March well when ever really as still open is the biggest problem !

I'm not sure Vietnams success is down to not testing as much.
They decided from the start to prioritise public health over the economy and it's paid dividends.

Obviously they've had other pandemics in their recent history so that's played a part in how they've proceeded.

Again, cause of death isn’t the same as excess deaths. Totally accept your point on cases, have always said case data isn’t reliable. But the reliable data we do have shows the same story.

And yeah, not closing borders has been a massive mistake.

someone will pick the bones out of the excess death data when this is all done and that's going to be as near as we get to an accurate figure.

I know it's the way the figures are recorded, the husband of a friend of ours died over the weekend. It was through liver failure, but while in hospital tested positive for Covid 19. This will be in the Covid death figures as tested and died within the 28 day period, although it was definitely not the cause of death. It's not all it seems!!!!!!

Hospital admissions decreasing but still exceptionally high at over 2k a day. Still more people on ventilators than the peak in April, as there has been since the 11th January. You'd expect death rates to hold up to a certain extent but start to reduce with the effect of vaccine. 4.26m had received first dose 3 weeks ago, but I suppose crucially the people dying are people who were already ill by then.

We've discussed this before. And while there have been many examples of these types of cases there are also many where covid is the cause but the person has died after the 28 day cut off point so the death hasn't been recorded as covid.

As stated earlier, excess deaths will be the most accurate indicator

But there are others who don't get picked up, or die from complications after 28 days.

Excess deaths are absolute however, and show what the impact of the pandemic is.

He died within the 28 days of his test, so although cause of death was liver failure, he will also be counted in the Covid deaths within 28 days of the test.

Other half's grandparents still living north of the border, one is 75 and still hasn't even been invited to make an appointment for his vaccine. Keeps getting told 'you have to wait for the letter'. Great work Nicola

My wife works at the Horton in Banbury where they now have a Covid ward. Almost all of the patients are either elderly or very overweight. Goes to show getting the elderly and "vulnerable" jabbed asap will clear hospital beds most quickly.

The best way to prevent lots of medical issues is losing a bit of weight and trying to be healthy. So makes no sense closing parks/ tennis courts and other out door fitness. If anything it should have been encouraged.

We need some modelling on excess death data based on efficacy against serious illness. If everyone got mildly ill and didn’t end up in hospital, I don’t see the issue.

Yep....Early studies appear to show that all the vaccines to date offer good protection from serious illness & death......regardless of mutation this or variant that....

.....so if that continues to be the case, they can fuck right off with any further covid lockdowns post 2021....


We can all have a jab & crack on with life.....assuming we still have one left to live.....

To be honest I think Johnson is itching to relax things but even he knows he has to wait until the relevant groups are double jabbed.

I wonder if that is just that hospital, because I am hearing different from elsewhere. Much younger and I have friends, who have friends now on oxygen and in hospital and this is all in the past week.

They are all in their 40's.

Could be, the JR in Oxford has a far bigger operation and they might be "divi-ing" up their cases.
