This is worse than flu?

Because we didn’t have vaccines and we haven’t had years of developing treatments. There’s a lot of stuff coming down the line in terms of reducing the impact of it.

I think it’s more the point we won’t get to 0 COVID, thanks to mutations and the like there’s always be some level around. Hopefully like most viruses those mutations make it less deadly as well.

If anyone mentions how shit the response has been he'll challenge you to name anything they could have done better. Which is followed by a list of things they could, and should, have done better which he will ignore.

My Mum on the other hand, a lifelong Daily Mail reading Conservative voter, thinks they've done an appauling job. Oddly despite thinking Starmer wouldn't do any better she was full of praise for Burnham and thinks Sultana is the best MP she's ever had!

It’s shit but governments get a free pass for a pandemic, hell even Trumps vote held up way above what it should’ve. Annoying that it doesn’t also work for global financial crises.

You would still need to be worried for family members thst it might kill them? Vaccine or no vaccine?

When people say that I assume they don't mean that its like the flu more that we can't stay locked up forever and there comes a point where between vaccines and treatment the deaths are similar to those we see annually with flu. Maybe I'm giving people too much credit.

Do agree though, there are certainly things that make me concerned. Allowing overseas holidays and the surge in people booking being one. I wouldn't be rushing to go to a country thats way behind us in vaccinations.

I'm actually quite surprised at that. We're going to need a lot of stock for peoples 2nd dose coming up soon and the weekly average has been dropping due to supply issues. I thought they'd just move on to 2nd doses now.

We're doing incredibly well with the vaccine but the way we've got so many firsts done we're going to need to do all the seconds now and end up with a 3--40% fully vaccinated and the rest with no protection at all. Then we're going to open up and the unvaccinated people are more likely to mingle. They'l be less vulnerable but it means it's more likely to create a mutation.

I know that feeling all to well. My nan is the same. Doesn't matter what you throw at her, she won't hear it. As horrible as this sounds, I don't think we can do anything about it till a certain age bracket starts to pass.

Sultana has said some odd things in her youth. What the two new MPs in Coventry have shown, however, is how much we were crying out for some energy from the incumbents (especially Robinson!) and how new blood could, in the long run, be the best thing for the long-term strength of Labour in Coventry, however close they came to losing the seats last time out.

Yep. Have to resign ourselves that there will always be a risk from Covid. We just need to get to a stage where it's a rare event indeed that it knocks you out (or over!) completely.

I don't want it to be a free-for-all post-Covid until everyone who wants a vaccine has had a vaccine. I don't fancy a risk of hospitalisation because some people will want to carry on as normal, because they've either been vaccinated, or consider themselves super-low risk, or deny the severity of the disease.

If that makes me a bell-end, so be it...

You’d like to think that the job market will bounce back quite quickly, I work with UK companies on the side and things are definitely picking up digitally.

Edit - PHE indicates we’re down to 11.8k covid inpatients. Down from 34k on 20 Jan. so pressure on NHS massively reducing (hopefully again a reflection of the start of the effects of the vaccine programme as well as lockdown)

I wondering that myself. The market is either going to boom as everyone goes crazy buying stuff etc from being locked up for almost a year or we're going to see many stay away for good as they've adjusted to a new normality.

Personally, I do think I've changed and have desire to go back to the old norm. I have far more drive and am pushing to go back into education.

To be fair I can see both sides of it. But I'm a key worker, but I currently work from home and haven't seen anyone for weeks.
I'm one example of how much of a convoluted mess it could turn into.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what the JVCI alluded to as well. They’ve gone for continued speed of roll out. I wouldn’t have an issue if a key worker had the vaccine ahead of me (in actual fact most/all will be more deserving) but as you say, it will just get messy...who’s really a key worker, which key workers are most at risk, if you go for say supermarket workers does that mean all the hauliers/clerical staff as well (if not, then having to split them). Just crack on and get it done as quickly as possible.

Health risk and then age appears to be sensible to keep the pace of the roll out going

If i dont have my preventer in the morning or at night I'm wheezier than Yakubu and need my blue one. Concerns me that i struggle to breathe without medication yet me and millions of others are apparently alright to be vaccinated last against a respiratory illness

Agree about asthmatics. I thought they should’ve gone ahead of 40-49 group. They’ve split the severity and set quite a high bar by all accounts. Hopefully you’ll get yours soon enough anyway

Yep i was told by the doctors id been bumped back down as i havent been hospitalised with asthma problems or an attack in the last 3 years. Found that a bit arbitrary being as probably a small percentage of asthmatics end up in hospital or have an attack each year surely?
