To be fair Malta has a population of 500k and have vaccined 17%.... That's 85,000 people... It's hardly groundbreaking is it, the capacity of a big football stadium... Coventry and Warwickshire alone have vaccined much more people

The vaccine rollout has shown the EU up tbh.. Irrespective of brexit.
Germany, Spain, France and Italy have given less 1st doses than the UK combined and you could add a good few more countries in there and it would still be less

Except that it was individual countries own sovereign governments that stopped the rollout not the EU, hence less than a third of countries in the EU stopped the roll out. Aside from that though...
New Zealand has one of the lowest roll outs in the world yet they’re not in the EU. Brazil, well it’s just an absolute mess their and their not in the EU. Most EU countries if not all are on or around the world average on the roll out just to give it some actual perspective.
edit. Actually just checked. All EU countries are 2-3 times higher than the world average.

Actually.. The EU member states signed a collective agreement to allow Brussels to order the vaccines as a collective rather than individually... And they were slow to do so...
A quote from the European commission president Ursula von der Leyen in a BBC article last week
"We were late to authorise. We were too optimistic when it came to massive production and perhaps too confident that what we ordered would actually be delivered on time."

Two different things. You’re confusing the purchasing of vaccines with the rollout of vaccines. Even then all EU countries had the option to go it alone on on purchasing. The fact that they didn’t was a decision made by their own sovereign governments. We opted out while still a de facto member for instance. I think Hungary did too as a full member, others may have too. Hungary has also approved the Russian vaccine as a full EU member. Italy I think I read somewhere is not only about to approve it they’re also going to start producing it under license. We haven’t done that either before or after the transition period after leaving the EU.

They've done poorly though, individually collectively however it is.. Europe have been poor with the vaccine rollout .
And we should correctly praise the way we've managed this rollout

Poor compared to us and a handful of other countries. On the world stage they’re still way above average. They’ve definitely made mistakes though. But then who hasn’t during this pandemic.

Hopefully that's additional supplies and they've already ringfences the ones to give second doses. Not leaving any leeway and then running out of doses would be a fucking disaster.

Another remoaner can’t you just admit that this country have got it right regarding the vaccine roll out and the beloved EU have failed miserably and those countries suspending it will have blood on their hands with the extra deaths?
Macron and Merkel should hold their heads in shame also Van Der Leyen now saying she’ll block the vaccine being delivered to the uk and you all still want to be in the EU club?

Btw had my first jab today and what a lovely feeling from the woman directing me in the car park to the two ladies in the room one on the pc and the nurse giving me the jab.

She couldn’t threaten to block it if we were in the EU, that’s the point of the EU.
The case you should be making but have failed to is “why be joined with all these mental countries”, but no one is making that case. It was all “I love the Europeans I just hate the EU”, but in this case the EU has approved faster than the US and is recommending taking the vaccine.

Macron has been a dick, full stop. Merkel if you want to look at the facts has actually upheld Germany’s sovereign law, nothing more nothing less.
Van Der Leyen hasn’t got the power to do what she’s “threatening”. There’s also the small matter that EU manufactured vaccines need ingredients from the U.K. so she can’t afford to block vaccines for fear of retaliatory measures such as blocking export of active ingredients.
Yes I still want to be in the EU club, I want my rights back as a British citizens. No one voted leave on the basis of a pandemic response, we’ve not done anything we couldn’t have done had we still been members and if Brexit was so great you’d be all over the Brexit thread gloating not clutching to a straw man argument on a pandemic thread.
Glad you’ve had your vaccine, had mine too and agree it was a very positive experience and all the staff were excellent. Must be the best job in the world at the moment.
Yeah, looks that way. Strange. By all accounts the plan was to ramp things up from this/next week. Hopefully the NHS letter being referred to is overly cautious (rightly so, they’ve got to retain sufficient for second doses). Wonder if this is anything to do with EU threat today (hopefully not)

On a general point, I wish I could switch the news off. I've tried avoiding this thread, avoiding news on TV/ radio, but it still creeps through somehow! We certainly get too much information nowadays, and there's always a worry in it. We can't control whatever happens here and, I'd like to know of course if we've cocked up, but until that point it just adds extra worry onto things.

I've turned off all news alerts on my phone, was sending my anxiety through the roof. Don't watch the news either but obviously still see what is being said on here and social media, although I try to stick to my own social media feed and not get lost in trending topics.
Its increasingly difficult to know what sources to trust. Even mainstream, relatively trustworthy, news sources are pushing out leading headlines to try and get clicks.

Yes we made mistakes I agree but who knew how do things with the global pandemic it was listen to the scientists week by week
Also yes the track and trace is a joke it never worked ie I went to a pub in Portishead in September and there was no track and trace no masks and no hand gel available at the time.
I also think countries in Europe will overtake us in deaths with their policy atm.
