Sorry if already been said but very telling that none of the German clubs involved.

Doesn’t take a genius to realise that the fan-owned aspect has influenced that decision.

The players themselves of course, do have a part to play too. We'll surely see the measure of mercenary by those willing to join this new proposal.

To be fair players will have no choice, while they have existing contracts with these clubs.

Maybe I'm blinkered to the realities of the modern world, but I find it hard to believe there will be widespread interest in this tournament, and without qualification through sporting merit I can see it having a short shelf life anyhow.

I have subscriptions with all the main platforms, Sky, BT, Amazon etc
I definitely wouldn't bother with the ESL one

PFA have said they're looking into what this means for players contractually.
I feel sorry for anyone involved with these clubs whether players, fans, staff whatever, who want no part of it.

Think it would be interesting to hear what someone like Marcus Rashford, a man with evidently a strong social conscience, thinks about this. Players have it within their power to destroy this. A transfer request, a fallout with coaching staff and general heel dragging performances can all force the hand of the employer with the player free to find a club in the domestic league once the contract is honoured or terminated.

The reason I’ve seen given is that due to their ownership structure (51% fan) they couldn’t have joined without their intention becoming public. Expect them to work on their fans from now on...

You can hand in your notice, it's a contract of employment at the end of the day.

If Amazon pays a few billion for the rights and puts it on Prime Video, you'd have to imagine the games would be wildly popular.

Ooohhh, head of UEFA is saying that all Super League players should be banned from all UEFA completions ASAP.

You could see Man City and Chelsea kicked out of this season's Champions League.....shame. :D

Terrible, selfish, egotistical idea that will seriously hamper the National teams, the 86 remaining teams, non league and grassroots football.

I think however the response to this ESL is wrong. It focusses on legacy and history, it isn't going to be heard by the 12 teams involved so far. They don't care about that, they care about the global audience not the 30,40, 50 even 60 thousand that have turned up at the stadium to watch for decades. The fans are simply a commodity to exploit.

Take a look at where most of the money comes from in the Premier League it isn't from the people turning up on a Saturday or Sunday or Tuesday/Wednesday. For many clubs in that division match income amounts to less than 20% ( some as low as 7%) of total turnover, they are not going to lose all that income by this deal we all know fans are fickle

What these clubs will gain is many millions from the ESL by selling rights, a global audience, global merchandising and branding, ....... oh and increased match day prices. The directors of each of these clubs have a duty to maximise investment value and return for the shareholders. Those directors are being promised a huge increased return for creating this ESL...... do they care about CCFC, PNE, Wrexham, the national team or a local amateur team ............ not a chance. They will have done the analysis of potential damage reputation etc and concluded it is worth it

The argument to oppose this has to find a way to prove that financially for these 12 clubs it is not going to work. Sadly that is not going to be easy, the figures thrown around are so big it is hard to think how they these clubs can be offered a different alternative.

The game as we know it is going to be badly affected and there will be no coming back from it.

The damage is first going to hit financially all the way through the football pyramid and then the history and legacy will go when clubs go out of business. Football finances are as we all know in a mess in the EFL, this will only get worse with no or reduced access to the funds these big clubs create

The authorities have only themselves to blame because they have never got to grips with the finances. Had they done so then the clubs could have weathered this storm far better. The finance is why the authorities are kicking back, but they are cloaking it with legacy

The peoples game ............ it should be ............... but it hasnt been for many years ............. and too many people (fans included but those in governance in particular) have swept the progression to this under the carpet hoping it wont happen.

It is all about the money. "Big" clubs small minds

I think there would be a pretty big global reach for the first year, but surely you'd think the novelty of the same few "big" teams playing each other again and again every year would wear off after a while?

No longer a “big” game if they play each other every week

Weirdly if this nonsense doesn’t go through it could eventually be great for football. Never seen such a united front across fans of every team.

Agreed.
I fear that PL/UEFA/FIFA will cave in though with some sort of compromise deal promising these 'elite' clubs even bigger revenue shares, B teams, closed shop competitions or similar.

It's almost inevitable isn't it?

Wonder how the fans of the clubs feel about this.

Disgusting and I hope people don't allow this to happen

It's not the actual fans though is it. Its the likes of American, African and Asian fans, that are happy for this to go ahead and they will be the target audience TV wise.

Perhaps - I probably wouldn't have much interest, although then again I didn't before. But the same arguments have been made before every comparable shake-up (the Premier League, the Champions League etc) and we keep flocking back with our BT Sport and Sky subscriptions every time.

FIFA has already been planning an African Super League for months, so this is clearly where things are headed. The only reason UEFA etc are so opposed is because it's not being done on their terms.

Yeah I think interest would drop way off here in the UK, but potentially the overseas markets would be the target audience

Not this time. There should be a completely United front. The clubs go through with it and are kicked out or they back down and shut up.

We can go on without them. The one thing that can’t be allowed is for them to have their cake and eat it like they’re proposing. This is the time UEFA, FIFA and all the national associations have to tell them they’re not all they think they are and starve them out. We as fans ignore their games and don’t engage with it at all and they ban their players from international football so they’re not as attractive as they think they are. Force the fuckers to live amongst us as equals or die isolated and alone, stripped of fans and titles.

“Legacy fans” is what we are. They don’t want legacy fans, ie the ones that buy season tickets, make an atmosphere and have a genuine relationship with the club and players, because we also say bollocks to this sort of shit. They just want millions of consumers to sell ads to, and that’s about the size of it.
