i agree with John on this one, we have lost somekey players and replaced them with alot of potentials. we have no idea how the likes of fleck, kilbane will perform in this league but we had a good view on how crane and bigi would have done. I am still optimistic but dont agree the guilletine should be out after 10 games!

So I'm interested to know what position people deem success is after 10 games? I remember Norwich getting hammered 1st game of the season and still winning the league so researched the league table after 10 games that year.

Norwich 9th position with 13 points - finished 1st.
Leeds 1st position with 26 points - finished 2nd
Millwall 15th position with 11 points - finished 3rd

As AT has virtually a new team to gel so should we be giving him a minimum of 20 games before saying 'enough is enough' and getting another manager in?

Thorn should have gone at end of season imo, a better manager would have kept us up with the squad we had and nobody will convoince me to the contrary.......

However he is still here and I will be supporting him and the team as always this year. Hately's head if your argument above was to keep Thorn it was a poor one......yes Norwich got hammered first game.and went up.....who was in charge at start of season?.....what happened next?.....and what was the result?......I'll give you a clue it was not keeping the manager from start of saeason!

Our squad is pretty strong so think we should be aiming for 15 points from 10 games......if way below this say 5 points then Thorn should definitely move on and someone new should take the reigns! I think though AT with squad he has should be able to make the 15 points target to carry on.

People are saying 10 games as a reasonable round figure, what would you suggest "Hateleys Heed"? 15? 20? The whole season perhaps? These players are supposed to be Professionals, who are on wages (Unless you're a Bank Manager at Barclays) most people can only dream about...Remember, if a player earns £3k pw. after 6 weeks he has earned what a majority of workers earn in a year £18k....Imho 10-12 games is enough to decide if AT and this team he has brought in, are capable to mount a promotion challenge. If they are not, then it's time for him to move on.

I would say if top six is not a possiblity by Xmas. Not necessarily in it.
Also he needs those two extra signings. If not then he needs a lot of luck

It's not as simple as just putting a number on it, after ten to fifteen games it should be clear if thorn has the team performing to it's potential

Dongo, the time for excuses needs to end. You can't say I haven't been behind AT so far. He still has my backing. Last season he lost what he thought was his 1st team. He was left with half a squad of kids and misfits. That was from a squad that was too small as well. Anyone that expected us not to be at or nrar the bottom was slightly deluded.

This season he has been able to bring in players of his choice. OK, all brought in for free, but this is the norm for Div3. We have gone from being in a division of decent players having a poor squad to a division of small clubs with not many players I would like us to sign. I have not said I expect us to win it, but we should be top 6. FFS if Carlisle can finish 8th we should do better. The time for excuses has finished. We have players the other clubs would love. If he can't do any good with the players he has brought to the club it would be time to bring in someone that can.

Xmas.is half a season.The team should know each other and the way they play well before then. To me even 7th would be a fail. The unrealistic of us are the ones that expect top 2 or even the bottom half. The first few games could be a reality check, but if we can't recover from it we need to bring in someone that can.

just checkling the odds for us to win the league and we are 4th at 11-1 so the bookies think we are in for a shout now given the players we have brought in. I dont think we have the consistency to win the league personally but i think we will be at the playoffs this year unless SISU continue allowing players to exit, we lose Keogh and maybe one or two others (not sure if anyone wants them!) but we could be back at square one.

What will be, will be. Personally i am just wanting to go and enjoy some football again, lets try and be positive this year people and go and support your team!

I keep taking 12.5 on Betfair. I leave a few quid at that, then wait for more to be laid at that price and then take a bit more. My plan is to wait for the season to start, and if we have a good start I will lay us at a much lower price. This means I win whatever happens at the end of the season

I also took us at just over 2 for a top 6 finish. We are now 1.88. I could now lay us and make a profit even now before the season starts. Think the price will go much lower for a top 6 finish, but also think we will finish in the top 6, so will not be laying it unless we go to 1.2 This will give me over an 80% profit without waiting for the end of the season.

When Southampton were promoted from Div 1 I believe they were also outside the top 10 after 10 games.

I'm edging more towards the 20 game mark as a true test. If we are not in the top 6 then replacing AT is our only option. At least any new manager would have the January transfer window to 'wheel and deal' and bring some of their own players in to push towards the play off's.

I would agree with the view that we need to be in the shake up around Christmas-if we are rooted in mid table, then the January transfer window could be utilised by a new manager to give a boost for the rest of the season. 10 games strikes me as too soon to make such a judgement.

This season is our biggest chance of promotion. It'll only get harder and we'll only start to become a League 1 club more and more as seasons go by.

Defeat against Grimsby and draw against 9 man Forest made him the devil incarnate overnight. The truth is results will determine his fate and defeats against bury and Stevenage would probably create a lot of tension.
I think the appointment of Shaw and the elevation of Carsley is the insurance policy if things go wrong early. If we have a bad start he will not survive until Chtistmas. If we are top 8 he will be ok.

Yes Norwich did get hammered 7-1 by Colchester,,,,,managed by Bryan Gunn likeable but hapless like Thorn.......Gunn was raipdly sacked and Lambert the manager of Colchester then took over at Norwich and we all know what happened there.....although from earlier posts it appears some don't!! I think if things not going to plan after ten games it is long enough and we should look at Norwich as a prime example of what a quick change of manager can achieve!
