Lesson here- had Portugal gone for it like this at the start of the match they might have won

God forbid we make the same mistake on Tuesday, we need to start fast, no regrets at the end that we didn’t go for it sooner

Think people are slowly realising that, although Southgate gets crucified for it, really almost every International team is very negative & risk averse especially shutting up shop when winning.

All the important games at major tournaments are ‘win or go home’. Concede 2 goals in a match and you’re probably going to be on the losing side.

It’s not like the champions league where you have another leg to tie things up or a long format game where the best teams will overcome temporary setbacks.

This is why I’m quite positive about Southgate as manager. He gets that, and hopefully it translates into deep runs in major tournaments.

I don’t think Mount should or will come back in - 10 days’ isolation will bring about its own complications. One positive aspect is that if he comes off the bench in a situation where we are leading he is very defensively astute for an attacking player, unlike someone like Grealish.
