I usually just read this forum and rarely leave a message, and I am neither in nor out of the Thorn camp.
But I just had to say something now. I have been following this forum for a few months now, and watching the anti-Thorn brigade take any excuse to rip him down, watching them turn just about every topic into anti-Thorn tirades. It is pathetic, and I get the feeling they are so rabid now that they don't even realise they are doing it.
They bring the same twisted statistics "proving" he is the worst manager ever when they logically must know that isolated statistics are meaningless whilst at the same time ignoring and attacking any comment from less rabid posters that in any form whatsoever seem to be supporting Thorn.

It would be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic and so very, very boring.
I am not a fan of Thorn, and I also thought he might have done better at some times, but I recognise the truth of what he was left to work with - especially at the end of the season when he was forced to put crocked academy players and untried teenagers on the field to make up numbers. Yes, he failed to motivate sometimes and sometimes his tactics (if any) were more than confusing. But somehow he managed to keep up moral and he kept the players on his side, which was remarkable given the circumstances.

Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for me personally it has become more than pathetic hearing the same bile spewed forth ad nauseum.

Amusing the amount of posters who say they are 'not a fan of Thorn' but then get into tirades about the 'anti Thorn brigade.'


The way I see it is that most people are just posters posting about what they see is right and when they see things are wrong. We have just been relegated, so pretty much everything has been wrong of late (club from top to bottom).

If we start doing well I am sure Thorn will get praise. If we do badly he will quite rightly get criticised. That is the camp I am in. When he gets it right I praise him, when he gets it wrong I give him stick.

Don't see any problem with that at all.

I see very few people who are 'anti Thorn.' They are just yet to be convinced by him.

I was thinking the same thing - Are we sure this isn't mary_mungo_midge - writing style does seem similar and I know they are keen to con the masses into thinking they are the majority.

As it is pre season there is not much else to talk about.

Think the time to judge Thorn is this season. We had the squad torn apart last season and were always going to struggle. I don't think thorn did a particularly good or bad job last season. It is what it is, we had probably the worst squad in the league and that was always ending in relegation.

Placing people in camps or brigades based on certain opinions is pointless and stupid. What if someone thinks Thorn did one thing right but messed up another, and has a human brain capable of looking at both sides of an argument without planting their flag steadfastly and stubbornly in one while closing their eyes and shouting lalalalalalala?

Not saying they are but it seems rather curious to me.

People just need to accept some have views different to others. The suggestion that some fans should be vetoed from criticising a manager on a football forum makes us collectively a laughing stock especially one who has delivered the worst league positions in over half a century.

I would understand it if the Euromillions thread or the Godiva thread were hijacked by us nasty anti-Thorn terrorists with our appalling views but they are not. I don't care who is the majority and who isn't. I don't care if it is just me with a view I can express it if I want as can anyone else - this isn't North Korea - people need to grow up and accept that shock horror some football fans may hold a manager to account when they think he isn't very good. How shocking.

Actually Mark - I don't think anyone labelled as Anti Thorn has argued that they are in the majority - the whole minority/majority think was an invention of the so called 'pro-thorn' posters.

There are a few of these posters who have some ridiculous double standards.

If think that in reality both are in a minority but that will change dramatically with a swing for the thorn-out camp into the majority should he fail to deliver.

Now, my personal conclusion is that he will not only fail but he is actually not capable of delivering.

It's tough enough for an experienced manager but for a rookie - no chance.

When we are down there again at Christmas I am sure he (AT) will be blaming the younger players again as he hasn't got the bottle to go after the senior players IMO, certainly not publicly because they will tell him a few home truths - I think that's what happened with Freddie tbh.

If I was to say the sky is bright green and people disagreed would it be a clique shouting me down? The same as if loads of people said Thorn was a good manager, would that be a clique?

This is the crux of it. And everyone has a right to express any of these views on a forum. And actually, people can move within these groups as events dictate...not have five month old posts rammed down their neck as proof they've changed their mind. Is a change of position never allowed? I am in group 5 at the minute, moved from group 4 but am willing to have my mind changed by events next season.

I think if a consensus were to be drawn, on the suitability of Andy Thorn to do the job, it would turn out about 50/50, I see no overwhelming ground Swell
of opinion, either way, on a personal view, I have no axe to grind, in fact despite relegation, and the fact that our owners cut us adrift on stormy waters, I have to say that I enjoyed the Foot ball Al..La Thorn, much better than Bothroyd's or colemans, boring rubbish.
He reminds me of Barry Fry, and marmite, you either like him, or not. but either opinions should be respected, that's what a Forum is.

This thread is nonsense. of course people can be critical of Andy Thorn. it is there right to do so same way as it is other peoples right to praise Andy Thorn. We all watch football and love it and have opinions on it. 100 people could watch the same game and have 100 differnt views on it. -what the starting line up should have been-the tactics- what subs should have been made-who played well. Watching the exact same game we will all have differnt opinions on this and as opinions if they vary to a managers then why cant we disagree. Are coventry Fans negative at the moment, (damn right we are) we have had very little to be thankful in last few years. Relegation, Debt, losing best players... Is it very hard to find positives yes. i belive Andy Thorn is doing a good job given the circumstances. i also think he handles himself well and is positive and the fact that players seem to like him suggests they are behind what he trys to do. But can i be critical of him on a saturday evening when we lose away at bristol City? you better belive i can! can Arsenal fans complain about Arsene wenger yes they can. if fans want a change in Managment they are entitled to voice there opinions. We pay money to go to games, buy kits etc. people complain because we want better we deserve better. in my opinion i think Thorn will give us better but do i resent or complain about anyone having a go at him no. why cause its football a game of opinions.
