He will probably have to rest Phillips and Rice at some point as they’re both on yellow cards.

You could play Mount slightly deeper and/or Henderson at some point too. I really like Rice and Phillips though, if one of them had Henderson’s range of passing, it would be very well balanced.

Defence wins championships in just about every sport.
The yellows get wiped after the quarters I think.

Can people not just enjoy a win. My twitter feed is full of people either complaining that Sterling is not on the cover of the papers or complaining that he is on the cover of the Mail and The Sun who apparently aren't allowed to use his picture because they've given him stick in the past.

Difficult team selection for the next game, both tactically and team selection wise.

You imagine Ukraine will sit deeper and attempt to counter, so we will have to set up to be more creative and therefore by default we also need more creative players on the pitch.

Player wise, Grealish has made a claim to start and I think that could be a straight swap for Saka, who started well but faded. I would like to see Foden or Mount involved too, but not sure how they are shoehorned in, as Sterling cannot be dropped. Perhaps Mount can play deeper in place of Rice or Phillips, and Foden will be an impact player. On the other hand I also would not be surprised if he didn't start Grealish and kept him as an impact sub again.

Either way, Ukraine looked good in patches last night, but player for player we are clearly stronger and if we play how we did in spells last night it should be a good result for us.

Glad to see less Southgate hate so far today too.

I’m a fan and have always supported him (even if I didn’t/don’t agree with his team selections) but the first 70 mins we were poor. Germany were there for the taking. However, as I’ve said before, I’d have had shaw off at HT (set up first and involved in second goal) and Kane off not long before he scored. Thats football though and why I’m not a manager !

Should hopefully quieten down some of the pre match #Southgateout bed wetters though

Come on England !
Seen lots of people talk about this other teams being there for the taking!! Think it’s nonsense as was proved when Sterling lost the ball and we were attacking they were straight through

Grealish as an option if (when!) we're struggling to break teams down works well, I have to say.

Southgate doesn’t get the credit he deserves. People will always find something to discredit his achievements. If we got to a final and lost, some would say ‘our route was easy and we lost to first good team we played’.

Germany were there for the taking, yet when they beat Portugal 4-2 they were going to beat us convincingly.

Al Murray had a skit one time where he said after a few beers, every England knows how England could win the World Cup. He’s taking the piss but you see way too many part-time experts on social media.

There's idiots all over twitter calling that little girl a Nazi and making references to the war. What the fuck is wrong with some people!

Did seem a bit harsh to put her on the big screen though :ROFLMAO:

Reflecting on last night today with some lads at work .
I reckon Southgate got it bang on .

Il have to replace my negative feelings for him and show him some respect after all .

And yes , if we win this euros he will be the second most successful manager in our history .
Even a semi final and he's up there .

Fair play

You'd think we would go back to a back 4 against Ukraine and bring one of the attackers back in.

If we know kane and sterling will start then it's 2 out of mount, grealish, saka and foden

I’d almost be tempted to keep the 343 and bring Mount in as one of the centre mids. I think the structure of the team works well.

Yea I wasn't a fan of that being shown, I know they were likely going for the sympathy vote, but it was very much the wrong audience for that. Not on Twitter, but I can imagine some of the idiots on there.

I’ll be honest and say I was sceptical about going 3-4-3.

Having watched this video this morning, the change in system makes a lot of sense. Tifo is linked to The Athletic which is the outlet leaking all the team news in advance of the game.

When can we start actually believing?
Some of us believed it was possible to get to the final from day one (y)

Not unquestionable faith- a firm belief that if the stars aligned & we played well we could go a long way. There is a big difference.

And there is an even bigger difference between believing we could do really well and constant childish sniping & dreary negativity, which is what you're getting mixed up about.

It's not about unquestionable faith its about applying logic to your concerns, something many on here don't do, admittedly it works both ways and there needs to be grounds for peoples optimism.
