Seen lots of people talk about this other teams being there for the taking!! Think it’s nonsense as was proved when Sterling lost the ball and we were attacking they were straight through

That was just an awful pass. The ‘there for the taking comment’ was relating to the fact that if you get at Germany with pace, they struggle. People will rightly mention the Portugal match (they looked great in the game - Southgate nullified them on the wings though), but then again Hungary were less than ten mins away from knocking them out.

Southgates got his game plans and it’s working. I was just saying as I saw it before we scored, scrappy in patches but we did the job and I’ll take that every time

It's not about unquestionable faith its about applying logic to your concerns, something many on here don't do, admittedly it works both ways and there needs to be grounds for peoples optimism.

This is about right, yeah.

Just a bit of balance really- if you don’t like the way we play that’s all good and I like reading the opinions both ways, but not the stupid moaning.

I actually don’t think Germany were that impressive. We are a better team, we should have beaten them and doing just that is not such a massive deal. It was more of a psychological hurdle I think, that’s why everyone loved it so much.

And that’s another thing that’s changing, if we’re serious about being contenders at tournaments then we need to expect to compete and beat teams like Germany, and see these games as stepping stones on the way to the final, not these huge emotionally draining one-off events. I sense we’re starting to think that way now, which is great.

Have to remember they put 4 past a pretty good Portugal team. Think we won because we were far more organised and competent.

Sure I’m sorry to be reactionary

Controversial take 1: Stones would have been more at fault for the the goal than Sterling had Muller put his chance away. If Stones commits completely to the challenge on Havertz, instead of indecisively farting about and playing Muller onside in the process, he would have easily won the ball and stopped the attack.

Controversial take 2: Grealish should be used as an impact sub if required for the rest of the tournament. I'd much rather Sancho/Foden/Saka/Mount start over him, and believe Grealish is best utilised off the bench for England.

Controversial take 3: People who complain about booing, be it the knee or national anthems, are just as pathetic as those doing the booing. Shut up.

Controversial take 4: We will get to the final and get slapped by Belgium.

1- I can't remember the incident apart from relief, can't comment

2- I'm 50%, I personally think he should start next match. We are likely to have pressure on us to take the game to them. Depends on the opposition I guess

3- kind of agree, I just find it embarrassing and uncomfortable when we do it

4- I think you may well be right, but not slapped

I think we will win the whole thing against Italy in the final .

I would fancy us more v Italy than v Belgium, who have a bit of a jinx over us

It would be weird watching Italy v England with us playing like Italy used to and Italy playing like we used to

Think about it ..

We dont lose often at Wembley

We beat Ukraine in Rome
We beat Denmark at Wembley
We beat Italy at Wembley

Last night was fucking unreal, the best atmosphere at the New Wembley I have experienced with England. I saw 20-30 Cov fans I know before and after the game, fantastic to see back at a game

Watching the replays of the crowd when the goals went in- goosebumps stuff. Just going from TV it certainly looked the most raucous the new Wembley has ever been.

.. apart from when we took the place over of course :p

Wonder if any England fans felt bold enough to have already been in mainland Europe for a couple of weeks so they can get to the game.

Croatia another years ago

Actually we've lost 2 competitive games in 35 I think , Germany was a friendly

Why the hype around Belgium? They aren’t the team they were in 2018. With De Bruyne injured, Eden Hazard not at his best and an ageing defence. Despite Lukaku’s form, I don’t fancy them. We also beat Belgium the last time we played, somehow...

A Belgium-England final would be an ideal scenario for me. Either football is coming home, and if it doesn’t, I win the sweepstake at work!

Why is there so much focus on what Prince George was wearing?! He probably liked looking smart. I’d have worn a short dress and garters if it meant I got to go!

It's been such a weird tournament that has lead us to only having one QF game of any real quality.

England should now make the final. We really shouldn't be complacent but I'm hopeful that Southgate will make sure they're up for it.

Its not really as much to do with their ability for me, I just feel like they always beat us, but having said that I totally forgot we beat them last time out...

What would be perfect is if we got to the final and Switzerland somehow manage to march onto the final... or would that be 'devaluing' our potential victory?

Oh definitely.

Not getting to the final is now a significant failure. Not as in "Southgate out" failure, but a major letdown.

I'm even reflecting that Germany weren't actually all that yesterday, I think the emotion and hype overtook everyone. We are a better team than Germany, and whats more we had way more on the bench.

This is not arrogance btw, just an attempt to adjust the mindset to a winning mentality, which has been one of our biggest weaknesses over the years, the ability to choke.

Think we can rely on him to continue with the pragmatic approach. Think the players have a lot of faith in him.

Its the first England team I remember where we have a set plan and way of playing every match, before now it was all apparently trying to be "free flowing" and the "English way"- but what did that mean? Fair enough Hodgson was 'pragmatic' as well but he had much more limited players imho. Before then though what was the England team's style of play?

I'm delighted to be the Arsenal 89-91 of International Football- its up the rest to unlock us & if they can't then thats an indictment of them, not our way of playing- tough shit on them if they can't score against us.

Not sure arrogance ever played a part for most people. More sense of opportunity, final is now realistic expectation.

I know, but it needs to be our mindset from now on- every tournament.

If we beat Ukraine then Southgate has got to the semis of every tournament he's been in, there isn't an England manager ever that can say that.. apart from Venables but he was only in one

Crazy that all of the group of death are out already too. The two pre-tournament favourites plus the Germans who could have easily reverted to type and gone deep.

Maybe successive games against quality opponents takes it out of them and that's a good thing being on the side of the draw we're on. The winner of the Italy Belgium game will then have to dispatch most likely Spain whereas we should be able to take out Ukraine then Czech or Denmark.
