Thorn: Bruno to get another try "ricky" to be told no + more trialists (8 Viewers)

Human beings do in every walk of life. Managers will have a go at a member of staff when they do something wrong. Sometimes they're harsh, sometimes they're not but the result is the same. The person becomes downhearted for a bit, maybe takes it the wrong way and perhaps doesn't perform as well as they did before until they finally get over it and start performing properly again.

It's called life experience. It's what makes us who we are and it's what teaches us to avoid the mistakes weve made before. Anyone who says football isnt like this isnt seeing the bigger picture. Bigi may have been down about getting shouted at and he may have had a mope about it but he's picked himself back up, chalked it down to life experience and is now forging his career at newcastle.

If Thorn were to treat all his young players with kid gloves then they'd never learn anything. It's like letting the spoilt kid get away with breaking toys because you know you can afford to buy more for him. He'll continue to break toys because he's completely aware of this fact and he'll never learn that it's wrong.

Mos importantly he will never learn that you must treasure the things that are given to you whatever they may be. If he doesnt learn to treasure and love these gifts, he may start seeing people and animals in the same way and then they start getting hurt too. I know that last part is a bit extreme but it does show that if Bigi wasnt brought up for an infraction, he might continue to think he was playing good and so when he fecks up majorly the come down is even worse.

Better to know your faults when they are small than to have them hit you in the face like a speeding train when they are large and out of control!

Personalities???? No. But i do know him. So is that a yes then?

As for Thorn, he deserves fuck all. Hes been in charge over a year now and what has he done during that time? Got us relegated to how lowest position in 50 years!!!

how can you judge thorn when he's had everyone of his limbs chopped into pieces by sisu until now last season he had a shit squad, only 3/4 good players last season all year round keogh, craine, clarker, norwood others were injured or passengers.

Would he do it in public?

No of course he wouldn't!!

Thorn deserves nothing from the club, why does he? People make out he is doing us a favour.

What exactly are his positives as a football manager? Why does he deserve so many chances?

this thread should be used as an example of the damned either way attitude by some fans.

The performance wasnt good enough, he told them in private and then us. Fans always say they want the truth and he gave it to us. They are professional footballers, not toddlers. We say we want players with passion who give their all, if they dont then the crowd are quick enough to get on their backs normally.

No!!! You lot really make me laugh.

The other week thorn said its all about fitness, performance don't matter. Then the youngsters have a bad day and Thorn rips into them. Instead he should have said, it's a friendly end off.

Im sure i read that he said the games in Scotland were about fitness and he was now looking for them to take shape but the style of play into practice. I think the result don't really matter if you at least are playing like a team and creating chances but by the sound of that awful commentary that was on Sky Blue Player, they achieved neither! I've also read the article and I don't think he is specifically slagging off the youth players. it was a poor performance by all including the trialists but if you don't use them properly, they will look poor.

It quotes Thorn as saying “There are probably one or two from Saturday who will start in the first team on the opening day of the season * everyone else was having a trial, kids or playing their first game of the pre-season and trying to impress."

I don't think he is excusing anyone there. He mentions three groups, trialists, kids and those playing their first game. He seems to be saying none of them played well enough to impress and force their way into the first team reckoning.

So performances do matter? Unlike his comment before saying performces don't matter.
Can you find this direct quote that performances don't matter, I have seen the result doesn't matter but I have not seen before saying the performances don't matter. Anyway the first few games of pre season it is all about fitness. As you get closer to the season performances do matter in pre season.

He hasn't even singled anyone out for criticism in that interview anyway

If he had tried to put out a positive spin in the post match interview people would only be calling it bull shit lies anyway

The lads have been buzzing in training all week. I don't know what happened out there, that's not what we're about, we will keep working to put it right.

He said something along the lines of 'fitness is the most important thing' but that was relating to the Scotland tour. Nowhere did he say that the Nuneaton result didn't matter.

This guy hit the nail on the head I have not seen him say ever that the performance doesnt matter, He has said the result doesnt. If we had come out and everyone had played well but we still lost 1-0 personally I wouldn't care and I dont see why anybody else would? a friendly game against Nuneaton means nothing but how you play on the pitch does.

But why would a result in a pre-season friendly against a local club matter?

Not in a discussion about Andy Thorn.

I find it frankly astonishing that someone could summon a name such as 'Thorn The Bully' for the rather honest observations pertaining to Saturday's game - which criticised no player too harshly - and attributing this to a lack of nous; being mindful of how public and vociferous Clough could be in his assessment of his players. Yet you hear Kenny Burns tell you how players would run through walls for their manager.

The use of Clough's name being to calibrate the preposterous nature of the idea. It's that context thing agan, y'see ;)

He's not the best communicator is he!

Get the feeling he has a short temper and sometimes just says the first thing that comes into his head.

I think it is fine to slate the senior players and give them a kick up the backside, but with kids you need to be a bit more careful. They are just making their way in the professional footballing world and finding their feet, are probably nervous and are kids amongst men in a lot of cases.

For seniors it is a kick up the backside, but with kids it usually needs an arm around the shoulder and a bit of encouragement.
Yeah that Ferguson bloke never got anywhere being short tempered with his young players in the 90's ...oh wait a min

this is just my opinion but if the players which played on Saturday play tomorrow or Saturday i think we will see a lot better performance from them because of this.

Clough punched a teenage Roy Keane in the stomach under hitting a backpass that cost a goal.

Yeah, but what did he know?

Still, Thorn The Bully is much worse you know. He once took away someone's hair-gel for missing a sitter; and once - after an un-named player ballooned a last-minute free-kick into the stands - he actually made him wash his own socks. I mean at home in his own machine using his own powder. Unbelievably callous

What are the excuses? 'It was Ball and Brown's first game and it's good to get Cody back' - he doesn't say they played well or even adequately.

Cody looked class in the league above - WHEN HE WAS FIT. If Cody plays 40 full games next season in long stretches he will get us 20 goals.

Sadly he seems a bit injury prone & I reckon he may not make that number by a considerable distance. But he is the key to a good season..

Meanwhile Freddy will probably score 25..
