Hopefully- there are plenty of people already saying that’s it, all over, and looking forward to being asked if they’ll wear a mask so they can tell them to f*** off

Well yea I mean I'm not in favour of anybody telling anybody to feck off .

However it's a situation now where there is no requirement to wear one from July 19th so maybe the best answer is for one or the other to simply move away .
If you don't have to wear one then there will be people that won't wear one , that has to be accepted

Amazing how people still wont look at the data for cases Florida and other states. That show you can live without masks and social distancing.
Would like to see some positives but the states that are removing restrictions the fastest, which seems to be the southern states on the whole, are seeing numbers surge.

Although as every state does their own figures its hard to be sure how accurate they are. Florida in particular has been questioned numerous times for descrepencies in their published figures and responded by no longer issuing daily updates.

Is Johnson going against the advice of scientists again?

Wouldn't that make you also sceptical about the 2 scientists stood next to him that chose not to say flat out ... we don't want this at all we think it's the wrong thing to do?

Which they didn't do ..

I can see it now. Fans ridiculed for wearing masks by those not wearing one. Fans wearing masks going mad at others who don’t. Think it’ll cause the standard unnecessary scuffles you see at games.

What I don't get, is that masks on public transport don't negatively affect the economy, so that argument is gone.

They're either needed... or not. It's typical Johnson to end up in the middle, create uncertaintly, and potentially harm the economy if people are reluctant to travel as a result!

Tbh with you the rail companies might enforce masks as part of the ticket terms, it doesn't need to be a law

I was slightly confused by this quote from Boris: "To those who say we should delay again, the alternative to that is to open up in the winter, when the virus will have an advantage, or not at all this year"

If he's suggesting it would be a bad idea to open everything up in the winter, why open up before that? Or are we looking at a re-run of last year, where we get a few months of 'normality' before we've really earned it, only for it to lead to more restrictions after it sends things haywire?

I want us to open up in an irreversible fashion like they promised, not have someone say "Well, this is as good as it's going to get, may as well enjoy August"

What they can't do however is compel people anymore, or ask for backup (or even the threat of backup). I know at our place of work they're piss poor at that type of thing, so voluntary may as well be nobody wears them.

The impression I get from looking at what experts are saying about it is they've gone back to something along the lines of the original herd immunity plan. Let it rip through the country over the summer and hope the NHS can cope with any surge and fingers crossed its over and done with before the winter and the annual NHS crisis. Of course that relies on it only being possible to get it once - is that still the thinking, recall there was some doubt, and not having a vaccine resistant variant - and the experts seem to be suggesting we are creating the perfect conditions for such a variant.

Just hope they've got it right this time and we're not going to end up back in lockdown again or seeing a large increase in hospitalisations & deaths.

They can have people removed from trains though. If it is their T+Cs tehy can ask you off at the next stop and then call BTP if you get lairy

Well I’m gonna go on record right now and say I’m up for it.

We’ll be celebrating becoming European Champions are arguing if that’s a bigger thing than signing Bright and beating Forest 👍
So you want to celebrate the European championships by lobbing masks at me in block 16 .

How rude

Reading through the comments since the announcement, yes i get some peoples concerns of course, but 1 thing is glaringly obvious.

Nobody has mentioned the vaccine.

This is why were opening up. The vaccine works. It's keeping 85% of people who contract covid out of hospital. It's keeping 96% of people who contract Covid alive.

We've been in a 3rd wave of cases for more than 7 weeks now. The increase in hospitalisations is less than 5% of January peak. 42000 at the peak. 1900 now.

Deaths over 1000 a day. Push 30 odd a day max now.

This is the biggest difference

People saying we're rinsing and repeating last year, we are not in my view.
We wouldn't be doing this if the vaccine didnt work. It does, and if we dont get back to normal now when will we?

I've been against restrictions for a while now as we know, but on the subject of masks, il still carry one and if i see someone uncomfortable with me without one, i shall put one on. Unless they're a prick about it of course

tbh I’m more concerned about dying of covid-discussion fatigue than covid now

Sadiq Khan's looking at making mask wearing part of the conditions of use for TFL i.e buses and the tube.

I have asked several times - are Italy sticking to the 4 week double jab science advice

Also didn’t the Italian government decide on some green card on vaccines and now backtracking?

What risk reduction is there from wearing masks and is it negated when they are unwashed and stuffed in pockets before putting them on?

They should wear masks in London in normal times ..the city is full of fucking mutants

So by that logic SBT posters must wear masks going by what I’ve seen in the last couple of months

Baldy presumably has to wear one in his sleep

I always make sure mine goes in my back pocket for a lovely waft of arse when it goes on.
