I couldn't get my head round the fact he played champions league with Liverpool!

How many other players have we had that played in The Champions League, or European Cup in recent-ish years? Trond Egil Soltvedt, McCallister?, Wise? Goram? Hedman? Maybe Moldovan, and Hadji. Could be quite a few.

He did play for Brentford, saw him play there quite a few times including an away match in the FA Cup against Aldershot when they lost and he played CB

That would look to be a fairly strong line up for us, I hope they are competitive at least. Keep us updated as and when you can be arsed, sw88, it was much appreciated last time.

He was at Brentford I think?

He was!

As it goes, I thought he was absolute quality when we first signed him: he was a good defender, talked to his team-mates, passed well and over-lapped effectively. RB had been a massive problem for ages, and he looked like a solution. Then he had a bad injury, came back, and his legs had gone. He went from best defender at the club to liability pretty much overnight, but due to lack of alternatives, he carried on playing for the rest of the season.

He is widely derided, but then City fans do have short memories and choose to remember a players bad times rather than good when they leave!

EDIT: forgot the bit where the manager decided over the summer that he was now a CB, despite the fact we had no RB's, and he promptly got murdered in that role, particularly in the air!

Team warming up. Looks like the first 11 will be Murphy, Brown, the edge, Malaga, Clarke, Kilbane, Sheff, Baker, Fleck, Thomas, Ball.

So I guess that mean Kilbane at LB? And 1 up front, no Cody? Harumph.

That's how I assumed they'd line up if sw88 is right. Be a shame for Cody not to start, but I guess there is some merit in trying out that formation and it would suit Ball better to be lone front man than Cody (guesswork, not seen the former play).

I've already given up on Ball after Saturday. He'd be miles behind Cody in my estimation, whatever the striking role.

Sheffers and Ball up front. Sheffers feeding off knockdowns from Ball.3-1 Cov with that lineup

I haven't seen Ball play, just think a diminutive striker often gets lost if he is up front by himself. I was worried the Edge might go left back rather than Kilbane; he doesn't sound like a full back from what I have heard.

Ball is big and quite strong. A mate of mine who is a Derby fan thinks he will do well for us this season.

Given up on someone after a meaningless friendly, talk about knee jerk. Besides, he didn't even look that bad.

I was tempted to put "yeah yeah, so I'm negative, sad and I have no mates, blah blah blah" in a bid to avoid illiciting a response like yours, but then I thought, "nah, fuck it, let them have their fun with their moral indignation" :D

I think The Edge is shite too if that helps ;)

And you think Bigi will be undoubtedly a £25m player in the future, so I think we can acknowledge you have your favourites and Cody just might be one of them amongst the current crop (so less than satisfactory performances from striking alternatives may well see you writing them off). Reynolds was right, though... you can't write Ball off after one pre-season game... you have to wait 'til I confirm it in a League game.
