Let's be honest though , Italy were the better side , we tried to defend a 1 goal lead onto the second half as if there was 10 minutes left and we didn't react to the subs made by mancini quick enough .. once Italy got ontop we struggled to impose ourselves onto the game at all , were sloppy and quite negative .

I don't know if we will ever have a better chance than that , and can't help but feel the game management was very poor going into the second half and beyond right to the penalties.
Totally. The knighthood's on hold, Gareth.

I love you but based on what?? It’s always the conservative managed teams that win. Look at our man Robins

We sat too deep, brough it on ourselves. We've got players who can hurt teams but they're no good sat on the edge of our 18 yard box. Just way too conservative. If we'd have got a second goal it would've killed the game.

A hard one to take however we held the advantage in regular time and the shootout then handed it back. 3 missed pens in a row all from the subs shows it was clearly a mistake and the second half strategy allowed them to lay siege to our goal.

Feel the most for Pickford who did as much as he could but ultimately, Southgate got the big calls wrong in this one unlike the previous games. Luckily the World Cup is on the horizon and the lessons from this one will stick

Some odd decisions with the 5 picked to take them and the order of the takers.

Good effort but can’t really say we deserved to wi that game.

Lets hope it doesn’t haunt those that missed too much.

Frankly, the comments on here just depress me. We outclassed that team for the first 25 mins, Mancini got his tactics right, and we looked tired. We gave it our all, and we did our best. Southgate has proved to be the best manager we have had since Robson, and here we are kicking off. Twats. See ya.

People are just disappointed.

If we played for 90 mins the way we always seem to play the first 25 we’d be formidable

Sterling was excellent all tournament.
He has been good but I have no idea how you can think he has been excellent tonight. He didn’t effect the game at all and should have been replaced by Sancho in the second half, but no chance of Southgate taking off his golden boy.

Just so negative beyond half time , ah well it is what it is ..southgates game management needs work .. I'm not going to slate him just hope he learns lessons because his game management cost us against the Croats in 2018 and arguably again tonight .

Here's hoping 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Southgate didn’t make the changes at the right times England needed an injection of pace in extra time and if he knew that Sancho was going to take one and Sterling wasn’t that should have been the change.

On the other hand he's had us in a world cup semi final and Euro's final. Italy best team in the tournament but we were a very close second.
