He means this season. Some folk who said we were going to walk the division based on some unproven freebies and selling all the quality are now saying sack the manager. Their expectations were too high, but still, we haven't lost a league game yet this season! If we have kept him up until now, realistically we aren't going to sack him until we lose against Dagenham and Yeovil. Which we might-or we might even win! I'd still rather us be terrible now than brilliant and have all the problems come out when it matters in the league.

The problem is neither will happen. We will just exist in this league and survive. For some they can all continue to allow the clueless one to wave at them and remain content. Others who want progress will only see continual decline and mediocrity. I can see you are wavering. Admit it, he's a dud and has to go.

Explain to me how much andy thorn has had to spend since he has been at Coventry and to prove a point. When we sacked Aidy Boothroyd who were all the Coventry fans calling for as their manager. Oh right it was Andy Thorn. Those last three months of the season we had Marlon King, Aron Gunnarson, Kieran Westwood and Ben Turner who were all important player and we also released a dozen players too. Who did we buy that transfer window, Cody McDonald, the only player Thorn has actually brought. So now explain to me how Andy Thorn could do anything more than watch that team get relgated. Andy Thorn has got my backing and whether you back him or not I'm sure 90% of the people at the Ricoh will back him when the season starts.

No one cares. It's a new season. It's a new dawn. No one has spent money on players this season so the man with an eye for talent should shine. If we go down to Yeovil and Bury he will be gone.

That 90% of the Ricoh may very well be only 50% of what the Ricoh was last season.

Wrexham 4- 1 cov
Nuneaton 1 -0 cov
Inverness 3 -1 cov
Ross County 1 -0 Cov

Anyone of those in isolation is acceptable but together demonstrate that there are problems, against mostly nonleague opposition we have scored twice in 4 games and tonight's team was virtually our first choice team. The morale around the club will be low after such a poor last season, the loss of a few players. We need a strong bright manager who can enthuse the players and lift the fans. Unfortunately we have Thorn who resembles Bungle from Rainbow.

Don't insult Bungle thats an outrage.

Agreed, but where is the vocal support? Where are those that were at Grimsby game when Strachan was hounded? Even the SISU OUT protests have been like WI meetings. Where is the passion? For anything?!

Even so, is it our last four or something we've lost?

Know it's only friendlies, but just don't feel that Thorn has it in him.

A lot of people don't. As someone who supported him last season, and thinks the squad for this season is rubbish, even I accept he'll pay the price this season if we fail in the league. Simply because at this level, if not the one above, the quality is low enough for a manager who gets a huge amount out of his resources to do well. Thorn's squad may be rubbish in my opinion, but at this level, we should have enough to be top 6 if the manager gets everything out of them.

We look absolutely dreadful at the moment, and in my heart-of-hearts, no, I don't think it will improve. But I still don't think it's realistic to sack a manager during pre-season: it has been known for teams to have awful pre-seasons, sort out all the issues it raised, and have a good season.

I still think come yeovil kick off it should be a clean slate, we need to have confidence about us though :(

There's no chance at all that he will be sacked in pre-season, just feel that we'll be mediocre at best again. When he is inevitably sacked will just be more time lost that could have been better spent with somebody else at the helm.

Problem is we are developing a losing mentality already. It really is looking rather ominous.

Complete bollocks I'm afraid. The majority stuck with thorn the season we got relegated to THE THIRD DIVISION. His name was sang until the last minute of the last game.

I'm not on about at the Ricoh, I'm on about on here and on phone-ins. I'm just sick of the managerial change that happens every season because people moan about crap like this tonight calling for him to go. It's not his fault we went down it's SISU's and its them who only think about taking our cash.

SISU employed Thorn as he is cheap. Sorry he is rubbish and he has to go.

Not wavering-it's not as black and white for me. I'll judge on what I see, and with the lack of depth, lack of experienced players, and lack of quality, I saw enough good things to make me back the manager last season. Equally, my big praise for him was mainly based on the previous season: that spell at the end was the most enjoyable in this division since Black. He really got us playing, and I loved it. Can he do it at a lower level, now he has depth, and a team with players he has signed? Well he claimed before the core of the King etc team was ripped out that he could get us into the playoffs with that side: that side was relatively as weak as this at this level IMO, so let's see.

Wow, R6 is now playing "Beat on The Brat" by The Ramones for the second time since I turned it on at 6. Coooool. And now Ivor Cutler! :D

Thorn supporters are a contradictory lot.

Right so answer this, as he is cheap, who can they get in cheaper then him because SISU only what to save money. All you asking him to be sacked need to start saying some names because I can't here any genuine name being said yet.

Gzuz, you have a very vocal and eloquent minority on this site, who do not think AT is the right man for the job. As they tend to post similar views on the same thread at similar times it gives you the perception that it is the majority of fans.

You maybe better off looking at the CET dip sample survey of approximately 1000 coventry fans the majority of which were season ticket holders. They said AT was the right man to bring us back up and was not the main reason we were relegated.

Also look at the history of how Coventry fans do turn on the manager. Yet with this one despite as pointed out having the worst record, his name was still chanted in positive tones. This must tell people something.

It will be easier to judge him this season. One more decent striker and midfielder which the club are trying to do and we should be in the play offs.

Genuine question: Who would you like to replace him with Grenduffy?

The club should actively look for someone in the lower leagues who has some proven record with success and sees this as a big stepping stone. Problem is SISU have been poor at recruitment. Coleman had no experience in this league and Boothroyd was damaged goods. If there was a genuine interview process Thorn would have failed at first base. Profiling what is needed is not difficult and up and coming managers would see us as a challenge. Problem is we keep profiling the wrong people.

Lee Carsley? Noel Whelan? That'd put the cat amongst the pigeons! Let's hope it's not Jordan's shitty-arsed cat...

He does, remember when much younger around '84, hearing his madness on The Peel Show, another sadly missed.

I can't imagine how anyone could have coped without Peel in the 80's. I can't really believe that R1 broadcast someone so unique. At least there's a few of them on R6 who play great stuff-including a lot of Peel archive sessions-but of course, they lack the magic, charisma, and eye for new talent that the great man had. Or the ability to play records at the wrong speed, sometimes improving them! :D

OK so they did appoint him. How much compensation will it cost to sack him? How much money did they have to pay another club to get him? How much more money is he earning as a manager then he was as a scout? Was he not employed anyway when Coleman and Bootroyd were there? He has only spent just under a million how much did all the EXPERIENCED MANAGERS spend while they were at the club? And also since you want him gone how much will the new manager want as wages, to spend on the team, as compensation for the inevitable sack he'll get when you want him sacked? And how much will it cost to bring in his coaching staff? Explain all this all you that want Thorn sacked.

I appreciate what you are saying but we all know its people on these sort of sites who then work there views into the public eye and then before you know it SISU want him sacked because they think the fans want him out. I go to all the home games and I hear a few people complain but most fans up there like him. Just idiots on here who need to know that sacking every manager we get for losing a game is not good for the team. Give Thorn ten league games then if it doesn't work out fair enough.

Which of course is the ultimate irony. New owners would catapult the fool into oblivion. Still you know what they say -- LIKE Thorn LOVE SISU.

Personally I can't stand either of them.

To many questions nobody can answer.
I just want to see us win. Up to now that hasn't been delivered. If you are happy finding excuses and putting up with (possibly) another SHIT season under Thorn, using the cost of wages as one of the reasons to keep him, that's fine. Odd, but fine. I want more.

Still sounds like Tisdale to me, and he can work on a shoestring, too. I think SISU could find a bit of small change from the player sales to find the meagre compensation he'd cost. That or someone who has done well in Scotland? The players and the league might be shite, but the managers know their onions.

I'd say Gary Johnson, but the man simply only does good work in The West Country! I'm mates with a hardcore Yeovil fan, and he thought they were as good as down and Johnson would only make things worse when he went back, given his terrible time at Northampton. Yet within a few weeks he had them playing as good stuff as when he took them to the playoffs last time he was there. This is a team on a BSP budget, looking doomed to relegation, and suddenly they look a top L1 side! That's the sort of manager we need. I'd say John Still of Dagenham for the quite incredible job he's done in taking Dagenham into the league, even getting them into L1 for a season, but I can't see the guy re-locating from London. He's out scouting parks football every night, he wouldn't be able to do that up here, he wouldn't have the contacts.

So..our first two games are against two of the best managers in the country at getting the best out of rubbish players? It's going to be all about organisation, guts and who wants it the most. If we give as much as both those teams and are as well organised, of course, we should win 8 times out of 10... crap.
