I just don’t know how we went from a CM being the priority signing to us seemingly not being interested in one.
I have no issue with getting a CM don't get me wrong
But LWB and CB is the priority for me

Maybe I'm going mad, or having really rather tedious dreams (both entirely possible!) but wasn't it thought Drysdale might be better suited to defensive midfield than centre back, long term? For sure, but no reason to think we won't get all 3. MR's comments suggest the LWB & CB are imminent.
If anything comes of the Cranie rumour he can do a decent job as backup in CDM, depends how long Kelly & Eccles are out for I guess.
Exactly. I’m sure this is a priority. We wouldn’t have been in for James/Walsh if we didn’t think it needed strengthening.I just don’t know how we went from a CM being the priority signing to us seemingly not being interested in one.
To be honest, I’d have chopped Kelly out and got an upgrade but we are where we are.
James and Hamer played the last 3 games.
He did. But you said “it’s no surprise we finished the season with James and Kelly in that position”, which isn’t correct. And we finished the season quite well.Obviously, Kelly got injured.

So... and I'm not saying that's what should happen in this case, as I have no idea of his current level really... but at some stage there has to be space for the young-ish players to make a push for the first team, and gain some first team experience with us. Drysdale's 21 now(?) so really should be looking to step up, if not this season, then next, if he's got any hopes of doing so long term. Not sure if the plan is ultimately to move him in to Midfield but he can certainly play there yeah, played as CDM in a Midfield 3 a handful of times for Gillingham last season, even picked in that role ahead of Eccles on occasion.

Well if not, he's at an age where he needs a move elsewhere. He's not going to be good enough at this level I would suspect

General point is, though, that we shouldn;t sign players for the sake of signing them. If management think Drysdale can make it, there needs to be space for him to play now and again. if not... then fair thee well!

A non existent budget hasn’t helped robinsNot really been paying a huge amount of attention but it seems from attacking midfield backwards we are worse than last season.
Hopefully it will be alright, but it does feel pretty Mowbray at the moment.
Don't get this at all.To be honest, I’d have chopped Kelly out and got an upgrade but we are where we are.
Playing CDM in the Championship - I can't see that it's the right position for Drysdale as he doesn't have the pace. Without pace you're going to get seriously exposed at this level in that position. Not sure if the plan is ultimately to move him in to Midfield but he can certainly play there yeah, played as CDM in a Midfield 3 a handful of times for Gillingham last season, even picked in that role ahead of Eccles on occasion.
We're a couple of players away from a competitive side, it's not even in the same universe as the Mowbray transfer window. Not really been paying a huge amount of attention but it seems from attacking midfield backwards we are worse than last season.

You have to factor in the number of players that have left the club too.The non existent budget that has allowed us to sign 5 permanent players you mean with more coming in on loan before the start of the season, sounds pretty existing to me
He did. But you said “it’s no surprise we finished the season with James and Kelly in that position”, which isn’t correct. And we finished the season quite well.
All opinions KSB but there's no way you can play that position in the modern game at a high level without pace.Really? CDMs aren't exactly renowned for their pace. Bar GK, it's one of the fews position where you can actually get away with not having pace.

We have fewer players and a weaker defence and midfield ….. our attacking options look better.
overall we are weaker but with players still to come in that can change

i would much rather stick it out till january and give Howley a shot till thenShould we make signings to tackle temporary issues? Sometimes just need tonget through a month on bare bones dont you?
CM is not a priority for me
Tends to happen when you spend money, your budget gets smaller
…he’s 17, has a better chance than most of eventually playing first team but I would suggest he’s a long way off that atm.i would much rather stick it out till january and give Howley a shot till then

Fabinho, Henderson, Rodri, Rice, Soucek, Busquets, Casemeiro. Do I need to go on?All opinions KSB but there's no way you can play that position in the modern game at a high level without pace.
we wouldn’t thrown him straight into the deep end, ease him in and if his performances are good we give him more time…he’s 17, has a better chance than most of eventually playing first team but I would suggest he’s a long way off that atm.
I didn’t say it did. I said you judge a budget based on outgoings and incomings not just incomings. So you think that the outgoing player wages have paid for all the transfer fees, signing on fees, agent fees and wages for the new signings... Bloody hell
